die Ohrenentzündung

Ei jei jei! Just when I thought I had things in hand ... a dastardly ear infection turned into laryngitis and a sinus issue.

So no special festivities (and no ale for me!) to begin 2023. However, I was able to read a lot. My plants were happy to have me home, and they are thriving. Of the four Orchids, one is still in bloom, another has a spike with at least 5 tiny buds forming, and the other two are green and healthy with oodles of aerial rootlings. The South African Frizzle Sizzle plant is going to town 'neath the grow lamp, and I believe the music I played whilst stuck here at home gave them much joy, too.

Back to work and things are hopping. The coughing spells are lessening, so by tomorrow, I should be back up to snuff and perhaps be able to raise a pint with friends after work.

I have discovered Pukka tea bags (from the UK). Their Chamomile/Vanilla/Mānuka Honey tea is amazing (and I thought I despised Chamomile!). I learn something new every day.

vom Wind gepeitscht

The German language has a fitting expression for the wind chill factors we're experiencing: vom Wind gepeitscht. 'Peitsche' is a whip. Say the word with vim and vigour ... Peitsche. You can just hear the impact. Peitsche. I raise a glass of Rhein Wein to the nurses, doctors, and emergency vehicle response teams who have to be on the road in this bitter cold.

Prost!

frostig und eisig

The only thing to be done is to cook soup and serve it in a mug so that you can wrap your fingers around the warm porcelain and sip languidly.

Good music and festive incense helps, too. Might just be the night to bring out the bourbon!
