Again good work from a good artist. Everyone should have his books. The Package they put the book in, was horrible yet the Baking with Kafka survived.

This is a wonderfully witty and droll comic that will appeal to writers, English majors, and lovers of books.

Very funny!

I've been a fan of Tom Gauld's work for years, plus, given that our family has roots in Scotland, I love seeing a fellow countryman celebrated internationally for his dry wit.

I'm also a big fan of standup comic Stephen Wright, which tells you just how dry and also how abstract Gauld's cartoon concepts often are. They make us smile, often, because they tilt our world on its side and remind us that there's humor in so many of our daily twists and turns.

And just to clarify: No, all of his comics are not about literary themes, although he returns to such ideas over and over again. This is a book I'll likely pull of the shelf maybe once a year and enjoy all over again, much like I've watched some videos of Wright's standup routines more than once and laughed every time.

Another reason I enjoy Gauld's comics is that, many years ago when I was first experimenting with journalism as a middle school student, my father (who was a talented amateur artist) helped me create some cartoons for the first student newspaper I published at age 13. I was surprised when he showed me the panels for the newspaper, which featured almost geometric characters delivering the lines to each other.

"What's that?" I asked him. "They don't even have faces."

"You don't need to fully flesh out the characters," he said. "That way they're 'everyman.'"

Tom Gauld clearly is from my father's school of cartooning, his figures often resembling the figures my Dad had sketched for those little comics for a tiny indie newspaper in the '60s.

So, clearly, there's family affinity in my affection for this book, which I've found over the years is part of the way we learn to love good humor. It feels like home.

Some of the smartest and funniest comics out there about the folly of the human condition. Gauld's caustic humor shines and his eye for the not so ordinary is refreshing. He is probably the most literary of contemporary illustrators and a fine one at that.

I loved it. Funny and quirky, with a unique brand of humour, and a deceivingly simple (and cute) art style which suits the mood perfectly. I had already read Mooncop. and I think this one is even better.
