Trent Yacuk has finally finished and published the core rulebook for his game Kingdom Come.

You can order the book in PDF form or for realz:

It is the most addictive, all-encompassing roleplaying game I have ever played. And I have been playing it for years now.

Dear Winter:

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think I speak for everyone around here when I say:

Fuck Right Off.

Sincerely,

Me

So I'm running at 6:30 am - which at this time of year is pitch-black - and I'm going down this hill where all the trees live, and I think, 'man, it would be really stupid if I hit a tree and hurt myself' and when I get to the bottom of the hill and I think I'm clear, instead I hit a metal pole right in the middle of the trees. (Why there was a metal pole in the middle of nowhere in a public park, I have no idea - it appears to have been a lamppost without a lamp. Mr. Tumnus, I'm looking at you.)

My first thought, in typical vanity nerd fashion, was 'oh no, I can't be bruised, I have to play a fae on Saturday'. But it didn't really hurt much (or perhaps it just froze - it was barely above 0C this morning), so I didn't think anything of it for the rest of the run. (In another note, all I said was 'ow geez'; apparently my id does not approve of curse words.)

I'm icing my knee down afterwards (I hadn't hurt my knee, I just always ice it down after that kind of exercise), and I randomly touch my face, and I think, 'hey, that's kind of wet', and I look and my fingers are a little extra pink and I realize suddenly they're covered in blood.

So now I have a huge bandaid on my cheek (it's actually just a scrape, but it's a bloody one) and I'm just praying not to be permanently disfigured.

Chicks dig scars, right?

I haven't posted a quiz in a very, very long time.

How well can you differentiate between hues?

I got an 8.

Warning: it takes a bit of time.

So I was watching this show - I'm not sure what network it's on, but here they're showing it on MuchMusic. It's not the kind of show I would generally recommend to other people. And I still wouldn't, despite the story I'm about to tell. It's about a group of exceptionally pretty teenage girls with amazing clothes and immaculately-groomed hair, a dead frenemy and scandalous secrets. It's summer filler, so although I would love for it to get picked up, these shows never seem to.

But there was one moment of exceptional versimilitude:

One of the pretty little girls (the blonde one - which is the only way I can tell her apart, as the rest of the gang are brunette except the dead girl) is having supper with her mom (Sydney from Melrose Place, so you just know she's going to be crazy). It looks like a steamed vegetable mix - you know, the kind you buy in frozen packages that anorexic women (like all the women on this show) probably pretend is a real meal. And they're talking about mother-daughter stuff, the kind of heart-to-heart you never really have in real life but teenagers pretend they wish they could have but would probably just say 'whatever' and run away to their rooms if they really had to talk about it with their moms.

And the little blonde girl is picking through her vegetables, setting aside one particular item (I couldn't tell what - maybe water chestnuts? or mushrooms?) that she didn't like. Just like I would have done at her age. And no one made a big deal of it; her mom didn't say 'eat your mushrooms' or anything; it was just something this girl did, had probably always done, and always would do. And they casually talked about 'the big issues' as she pretended to eat her supper and avoided those darned mushrooms.

It was kind of neat.

My mom made the most delicious cake ever (rhubarb sour cream coffee cake). Kathleen had a little half piece and a larger one on her plate. And Robert on her lap. He picked up the small piece, took a bite, then offered the rest to his mom to share. 'Awwwww, how sweet' thought the assembled adults.

Kathleen took a bite, and while she was thus distracted, Robert stole the large piece off his mom's plate and began to chomp away.

Yeah, he's a May.

The doctor left a message and said the ligaments were damaged, but shouldn't require surgery. He didn't say which ligaments, or how damaged, but I can find that out later.

I will get them to send the MRI to my physiotherapist, and hopefully the healing process will quicken with actual information.

And the boarding people didn't even show until 4:30 anyways.

There was a guy ahead of me who looked just like Awesome from Chuck, unless you saw his creepy tattoo sleeve. And pink luggage.

I have 'Like a Prayer' going through my head even though we didn't get to hear it last night.

I didn't think it was possible to have dreams after 1.5 hours sleep, but I had a wacky camping dream where Ajax was playing with a couple little kids in cat suits.

Rebecca Mayes writes music for videogames that stirs my soul and enchants my heart. And soon it will be available on iTunes!

Her music is beautiful and haunting and clever and whimsical, and it has been the dearest wish of my heart to own it since I first heard it.

My physiotherapist broke up with me today because I'm not getting any better. Having seen Hot Tub Time Machine recently, it was all I could do not to respond, "No, this isn't how it happens! You don't break up with me, I break up with you!"

But I didn't.

I also didn't say, "I know, right?" Which was also tempting.
