The Roots of Us
The first time I saw Hudson Jameson, he was saving someone’s life.
The second time, he was ruining mine.
It was only supposed to be a vacation. A chance to let the Florida sun burn away the residue left behind from my failed relationships. I wasn’t searching for love. I was on a hiatus from men, especially ones with secrets.

Essa é a Hartley. Franca, independente e aventureira. Nunca permanecendo em um lugar por muito tempo e o mesmo acontece com seus relacionamentos, nada é duradouro. Ela tem essa fachada de durona e dona de si, mas conforme vamos conhecendo-a, percebemos as rachaduras existentes em sua armadura. Ela carrega consigo uma dor profunda, que obviamente reflete no seu modo de ser. A princípio eu gostei bastante dela, porém em alguns momentos e situações ela conseguiu me irritar bastante.
Hudson foi o personagem que adorei logo de cara. Silencioso, solitário, introvertido e até mesmo um pouco mal-humorado. Mocinhos assim são meu ponto fraco e os que eu mais gosto de ler. Foi maravilhoso ver sua verdadeira personalidade sendo revelada pouco a pouco. E por baixo de toda aquela tristeza, ele se mostrou um homem encantador, atencioso e fofo.
O desenvolvimento do relacionamento dos deles foi outro ponto positivo. Gostei que não houve aquela demora pra abrir o coração e expor seus maiores medos e a causa de seus sofrimentos. Hartley e Hudson encontraram conforto um no outro. Foi bem gostoso acompanhar os dois juntos.
Até mais ou menos metade do livro eu estava bem satisfeita com a trama e adorando, no entanto a história começou a seguir um rumo diferente que não me agradou e me deixou muito apreensiva. Honestamente, achei um drama desnecessário. E a partir daí a história começou a perder o brilho pra mim.
O final ficou corrido e os conflitos resolvidos facilmente sem um desenvolvimento maior.
Esse é o primeiro livro que leio da autora. A escrita dela é cativante e muitas vezes me vi encantada com a narrativa. No geral, posso dizer que gostei. Não foi tudo o que eu esperava, mas também não foi uma completa decepção.

This Book was a wonderful book which focussed on forgiveness and overcoming the hurt caused by the deep-rooted past circumstances.
There are three main characters in this book - Hartley, Huson and James.
Hartley - She is immensely independent and doesn’t ever want to rely on men for her happiness. She is a photographer and an editor. She travels all around and lives her life running from one place to another. The moment she starts having real feelings for anyone, she leaves before she falls in deeper. But, she never expected to meet Hudson. She has been damaged by the events in her past and is not willing to forgive.
Hudson - lives in a small place in Florida. His life has become stagnant and he spends his time waiting for someone. He is waiting and doesn’t trust easily. He has also been dealt a bad hand in the past and is struggling to move on. He is deep, he has secrets, he says what is in his mind, he is blatantly honest, and is the sweetest giant ever. All he wants is true happiness for Hartley.
James - He is an adventurer. He has deep secrets and he doesn’t open up his true feelings easily. He is overly emotional and is not afraid to share his feelings. It was an absolute pleasure reading James. He was a delight.
There were some amazing other secondary characters too who provided a well of knowledge and taught some of the characters forgiveness.
This book was quite poetic. It showed the characters struggling, and how their past was holding them back. It showed how their struggles was affecting their relationships with their loved ones and how empty their lives were. It was great to see all the three characters coming together in their journey of forgiveness and accepting love.
This is not a love triangle, nor MFM.
I only had a few issues at the end of the book.
I HIGHLY recommend this book. It was emotional, angsty but also an amazing journey.

Surprisingly different from what I expected in all the best ways! I was thoroughly mesmerized by this new-to-me author's excruciatingly honest and heart wrenching message. The story is beautiful and poignant; the characters were all battered and scarred by childhoods filled with neglect and hurt.
The main characters, Hartley, Hudson and Silas, are joined by an equally engaging secondary cast. As they say, it takes a village . . . and this one needed every single character to bring the tale to fruition. I was entranced from start to finish . . . with only one, but pretty significant complaint which meant the difference between a full-five star review and the four-star rating I'm giving this book. There is a big reveal -- and it takes a while to even begin to draw some guesses -- but when you do, the story lost some of its powerful qualities for me as a reader. The unraveling was just too much of a coincidence to feel real -- I just couldn't get there. And even though I kept saying to myself, "this is fiction - this is fiction," I'm still shaking my head with disappointment.
I'm also left wondering how and why this book hasn't generated more discussions and reviews. Why aren't readers drawn to it?
I will definitely be checking out other books by Candace Knoebel -- one would never be enough. She's just too good at her craft.

“But don’t we all have something festering beneath the surface? We wouldn’t be human if we didn’t.”
The Roots of Us was your typical cliché book. Lost and sad girl meets boy. They touch on accident. They feel a shock, a connection. They look at each other in the eyes and all of the sudden their universes align. They fall in love. Some one has secrets. They fight. And so on and so on. Insta-love in a sort, but not the best in my opinion.
I thoroughly enjoyed this author’s writing though. It was absolutely mesmerizing, I think I even had quite a few highlights. It was flowy and straight to the point and hardly lulled (except for in the second part but I’ll get to that).
But no communication between two people in a book can drive me batty, especially when it’s for selfish reasons and Hartley drove me crazy with all of the information she was withholding for so long from Hudson. Mainly because it was small and I had complete confidence with Hudson’s character type that it would have went a whole lot smoother had she just been honest with him.
Hudson was a great, complex character. I loved that despite him being flawed, he was open to changing and embracing it. He was sensitive yet firm, the best of both worlds. He was my favorite part of this entire story. Hartley never really grew on me. I couldn’t get on the “Hartley bandwagon” mainly because being in her POV really ruined that for me. She was flighty, hypocritical, and not likeable to me.
Also, I feel the need to add that for as little sex as this author had in her book- I had to skim what she did have in there and I think I physically cringed. I don’t know if it’s just out growing my tastes or what but it was more detailed than I needed for this type of story. It just didn’t fit to me.
“Pain isn’t loud. It doesn’t barge into the room. It’s sneaky. A criminal, hoarding all your happiness. It’s like our shadow, silently following us wherever we go. Jealous of the light we stand in. So maybe… maybe every once in a while, we should try to stop and acknowledge it.”
The second part was the downfall of the book for me. I bypassed a lot of the story then, I was ready to see Hudson and Hartley reunite again. I didn’t like the world that the author was building without Hudson in it, I couldn’t get myself to like James, or Hartley's occupation and I just didn’t much care for the entire second part of the book until the twist was revealed. It had me shook. Other than that, I feel like I could have skipped that whole section.
The Roots of Us was a great book, it truly was. I was immensely impressed with the author and her writing but after the situations that occurred and the way they were handled, especially by Hartley all throughout the book, I had a really hard time loving this book.

This romance novel discusses how people who have been hurt before by someone that they love, learn to love again. Both Hartley and Hudson had at least one of their parents leave them sometime in their childhood, and Hudson even had his brother leave him. They are reluctant to trust each other, but soon they start to warm up to each other and fall for each other. Then Hartley gets a dream job opportunity that will take her away from Hudson. In deciding to go, she breaks things off with Hudson. She wants things to be simple, but her feelings for Hudson run deeper than she originally realized.
This is a first love and second chance romance rolled up into one! Hartley was definitely an interesting character who didn't believe in love and only short-term relationships. Eventually, she realizes that maybe Hudson was more than a simple three-month relationship. But when she is hundreds of miles away from Florida, she doesn't know how she is going to find him again.
Hudson is also three-dimensional, with a complicated backstory and interesting hobbies. I loved the fact that he understood what Hartley was going through and tried to help her through it, even if she was technically in the wrong.
The one thing that I disliked was the ending. I felt that it had been a bit rushed, and was a bit disappointed. Hopefully, other readers won't feel this way!
I would recommend this book to lovers of second chance romance or romance novels in general.

I've read all of this author's contemporary and paranormal books and she has such a way with words that I always look forward to a new release from her! Her last contemporary book was also amazing, so I couldn't wait to read another one from her lol! I signed up to review this book as soon as sign-ups became available and started reading my ARC as soon as I received it! After reading, I can say that I loved this book a lot! The plot did go in a different direction to what I was expecting, but I enjoyed the direction that the author took it in and it actually surprised me, which I loved! The plot also had such an important message in it about forgiveness and about letting go so you can move on and be free! I'll admit that I cried at the plot, especially the ending and it was very emotional at times! There were some seriously hot scenes in the plot too, which I loved! I also guessed the big twist way before it was revealed, but half the fun is waiting for it to be revealed and seeing the impact! The twist did have a big impact and it made things even more complicated! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Hartley was the main character, and in this book she was on the move a lot with the type of job she had, so she had never settled anywhere! That changed in this book and Hartley finally found a reason to stay! She didn't though and this gave her a lot of regret! Hartley also had a bad relationship with her father and I could completely understand why she did! She came a long way in this book though and went through a lot of realisation! Hudson was the love interest of Hartley! Hudson was a character that held his cards close to his chest! He was very shy and kept himself to himself! Like Hartley, he came a long way in this book and Hartley brought out the best in him and made him open up more and be more honest! Hudson was also seriously hot and so sweet! 'James' was another sort of love interest of Hartley! I didn't see any romantic connection between Harley and James and neither did Hartley lol! The two characters spent a lot of time together though, so it was inevitable that one of them would think that something romantic could potentially happen! This book was only written from Hartley's point of view, which didn't really surprise me because the synopsis made it sound like it was only going to be written from her point of view! I would have loved a few chapters to have been written from Hudson's point of view, but I could completely understand why it was only written from Hartley's point of view! I was still able to connect with the other characters too! I'm also really sad that this book is a standalone! I would have loved to have read more on Hartley and Hudson! Anyway, I can't wait to see what this author is going to release next and I'll definitely be reading it! It says that her next release is at the end of August, so there's not actually that long a wait lol! The cover for this book is also amazing! I love how much it suits the title of the book and I love how unique it is too! It doesn't have a person on it and this instantly drew me to it and made me want to read the story behind it! WOW! I didn't know what to expect when I started this book by a new-to-me author. What I didn't expect was to be completely blown away by a story with the most exceptional writing and such complex characters, and finding a new favorite author! I absolutely loved Hartley & Hudson's journey - it wasn't just a story, it was their journey of overcoming such painful past experiences that they were holding onto. Yes, this was a romance but it was also philosophical and poetic and a story of self discovery, forgiveness and healing. There aren't many books that I can remember that have such complicated, deep characters. I actually wondered throughout the book whether the author had a psychology background because of the way intricate way she wrote out Hartley & Hudson's characters.
I can't say enough about this one. I'm off to read another of this author's work because I'm craving more of her brilliant words.

The Roots of Us is the emotionaly stunted journey of a woman so desperate not to love she doesn't realize she's too late. It's painful. It's intense. The Roots of Us is all the negative bullish!t we try to hide in the shadows being brought to light. It's a reminder of our flaws and our shortcomings.
The Roots of Us is my first be this author. Once I finish wiping my tears away I will see what else she has because I enjoyed having my heart stomped on. I enjoyed feeling lost. I enjoyed figuring things out and shaking my head at Hartley. Most of all, I enjoyed every bit of Hudson. Absolutely very...bit!

Another new to me author and I think this was a good one to get started on.
I enjoyed the story of Hartley and Hudson, two broken people who gravitate towards each other no matter how hard they try to resist. This book was a slow burner for me but that's not a bad thing as we get real character development. We see all facets of love not just the fluffy stuff but the horrible bitter pain that love and abandonment can bring.
A well written love story full of emotion.

**AN ARC WAS GRACIOUSLY PROVIDED FOR AN HONEST REVIEW. ALL OPINIONS ARE MY OWN**
I can honestly say that I've never had a book challenge me the way The Roots of Us did. For a huge chunk of the book, I was so extremely disappointed with the many decisions that the heroine made, but at the time, I wasn't noticing the bigger picture that Hartley was slowly working towards. This book isn't quite the love story I was looking for, but it turned out to be it's more than that. The story is about Hartley, she's a runner, afraid to face the possibilities of happiness, to settle and to trust in someone. A heroine that is completely married to her work, constantly chasing the high of her job and suffering from the lack of love her father should have shown her. Could she find room in her heart to love again?
PSA: I apologize in advance for the fact that my review will be all over the place, bear with me...
As soon as I finished the book, which I devoured in one sitting, I was completely enraptured by Hartley's story. Since I'm a night reader, I literally just laid in bed wondering how the heck I was going to write my review. I felt every emotion across the scale as I made my way through this one. I hate to admit this, but I really struggled to like Hartley. My opinion about her changed so much in this book, just ping-ponging back and forth between like and dislike.
The Roots of Us is written in 3 acts, each with their own title and all from Hartley's POV. Once you read the titles, you can easily guess the upcoming twists the story has, which totally left an unsettling feeling for me. Your emotions will go through the wringer in all very different ways as you make your way through each act. In ACT 1, everything almost felt too easy. We're introduced to how Hartley and Hudson meet for the first time and how things evolved between them. It was sweet, heartwarming, but also there was so much honesty between them, which is one element I always strive to see in a romance. But as you make your way towards the end of ACT 1, you see feelings evolving into something a lot stronger than neither one of them anticipated. And this was the first moment, my opinion started to change about Hartley, the thought of love was overwhelming her and it kickstarted her natural instinct to run. More than anything, she was afraid to completely give herself to a man; to love. She didn't think she was capable of it, even when the perfect man for her is right in front of her. It was easy for her to make up a million excuses to leave and all of them just infuriated me. ACT 2 ... I wanted to skip this part so much because I knew right away what was happening. She's finally there working her dream job with the well-known, James Taiga all while battling her decision to leave Hudson. As much as I hated her decision to leave, it was absolutely necessary for her to do so. Now that she's discovered love and what it truly feels like, it was like she was meant to experience different things to help her grow and get past her fears. And in a way, her interesting friendship/relationship helped her in a very weird way. Since the day they met, there was something that Hartley recognized immediately, something familiar. But everyone has secrets and James is keeping a big one.
If anything, this act complicated things tremendously and it was a bit of a love triangle, but Hartley kept it known that her heart was with another man. But despite that fact, it didn't waver James love for her. This act left me on edge the entire time because I was not emotionally ready for the storm that was brewing ahead, which leads you right to the final act.
The final act to me was definitely the most heartbreaking out of the story and it still came with quite a few of the twist and turns. I swear guys, Candace will seriously put you through the wringer before there's a happy ever after. This was the act where Hartley truly evolves and not necessarily for the better, at first. It was a constant downward spiral for her and your heart will absolutely break for her. She reached her breaking point. Finally realizing her love and loss, and the inability to move on. Even when you're 80% done with the book, you're still left guessing if there will be a happy ever after for her.
So sorry for that long bit of my review, but I deemed it necessary to hopefully better explaining my emotions throughout this book. Hartley was a character that frustrated me so much, but everything with her was complicated and very much real. Dealing with the abandonment of her father and still holding out that he'd one day come around; to come back to her. She found love for the first time and by the time she realized it, it was too late because she ran from it. Loss. Even in the end when she finally gets her happily ever after, she had to not only learn to forgive everyone around that affected her life, she needed to forgive herself more than anything. After reading the author's note at the end, it said so much about why this book was written the way it was. And it just made me appreciate this story so much more because it stemmed from something very real and personal. Despite all of my frustrations with these characters, it showed me the vulnerable side of each and every one of them, most of Hartley.
Candace has written a story that has definitely left an impression on me and I'll definitely remember this book for a very long time. It felt like I got a few stories all wrapped in one, each one having the closure necessary to help Hartley move on and to be free of all the pain she lived with. These characters were so well-developed and it made for such an amazing story to read. We not only get a love story between Hartley and Hudson, but Hartley's own personal journey towards love and forgiveness. I'm secretly hoping for a bit of POV from Hudson, his story isn't an easy one as well and there were so many times that I just needed to know more from him. Candace, can we haves?!
The Roots of Us is an absolute must read, this was a first read for this author and I'm a fan. I am in complete awe of her writing style, every line was just so deep and meaningful. It constantly left me pondering about every thought she shared beyond the words on the page. She opened up my eyes to really see every side of things, the good and the bad especially with the parts we don't even agree with.
Truly a beautiful read, Candace.

The synopsis of this one intrigued me immensely and I couldn't help but wonder whether it will be like every other Romance novel I've unfortunately stumbled upon recently! Which means underdeveloped, with any significant meaning or plot and full of cringe worthy moments that actually deserve an award. No, The Roots of Us was none of those things because you know what? It almost reached perfection! I'm so glad I chose to give it a chance because after my last disappointing reads that belong in the same Genre, I was just about ready to give up! It definitely renewed my hope in humanity and relationships, made me scream in frustration, almost cry fat ugly tears and laugh with unadulterated joy! So many emotions raced through my poor heart while reading it and I wouldn't have had it any other way!
I don't like talking about the plot because of my need to explain things as they are and spoiling minor or major details in the process without even realizing it. It's not the same with Fantasy because things are always more complicated but, if you want to know what this book's about, all you need to do is read its synopsis! Nothing more, nothing less!
I was impressed as soon as I started reading because of how mature the voice of the narrator - Hartley in this case - sounded and the impact her words carried throughout the novel. She was terrifyingly relatable because who hasn't fallen in love with the right person at the wrong time and so real that I could almost touch her! Her romance with Hudson isn't ideal which is proven multiple times and in multiple ways but, that doesn't stop her from wanting to make things work! Hudson was such a sweetheart under all that mysterious broodiness that was basically his way of coping with things! His chemistry with Hartley is undeniable and as much as he tries to resist at the beginning and keep her away from him, she manages to sneak through his defenses and become an irreplaceable part of his life and his heart. They were made for each other and even though it takes such a long time for them to realize it, their time apart makes them stronger when they're together!
The story starts off slow and turns quite intense as it progresses, which is something I absolutely love in novels but haven't really come across in a while! This slow burn torture of wanting someone but not being able to have them because of one reason or another really hit close to home and I feel like that what made the experience of reading this book so much more raw for me, personally! The writing was beautiful and poignant, which heightened the experience and I'm going to repeat myself by saying that, I loved Hartley's narration and how real it felt while I was reading it! The characters' development goes back and forth between their highs and lows. Highs when they're together and lows when they're forced to be apart. Not going to say why and in case you're wondering, do yourselves and favor and pick this one up!
The only thing that kind of bothered me was how rushed the ending felt compared to the pace of the story as a whole. It was just too sudden and abrupt for my liking, which didn't influence my overall view of the book itself, just made me wish for a more detailed version of it. I loved how well thought out everything was and the fact that I found a kindred spirit in Hartley, which hasn't really happened before! I also felt like their story was extremely relatable and the relationship that developed between them throughout the novel was both heartbreaking and heartwarming because of the ups and downs they encountered in their way to a happily ever after!
Overall, I immensely enjoyed The Roots of Us and it's definitely one of the best Romance novels I've read in a while. Kudos to Hartly and Hudson, who made it to their destine through infinite hardships and wrong decisions.
The Roots of Us is a bittersweet love story of Hudson and Hartley, that takes us through issues such as abandonment and sacrifice.
The first thing I loved about the story was that Hudson and Hartley are two totally opposite people. Hartly is loud and spontaneous, Hudson is calculative. While Hartly believes in running away from her problems, Hudson believes in facing his demons and solving the problems.
Hudson and Hartley find comfort in each other, but the comfort looks temporary, at least according to Hartley. Hartly is emotionally crammed, most of which is due to the fact that he father abandoned her and her mother for another woman. Hudson faces similar problems but he is full of guilt of letting his brother Silas go away.
They both try to fix each other, along with subtle encouragements to follow their dreams. As the story progresses, we see more of Hartley complicated thought process and her need to run from everything.
The start of the story is slow and gets better as it progresses. Though I am not happy with the decisions the characters make throughout the story, I totally respect the author's representation of vulnerability. The characters are very simple and easy to follow. Most of them are predictable and each one has their own burden to carry.
Overall, a very adorable romance, with the beauty of Florida as the backdrop, The Roots of Us is about forgiveness and letting go, in order to have a better and happier life.

There are not enough good things that I can say about this book. I was completely unfamiliar with Candace Knoebel, and didn’t even know what genre this book was in when I started reading. I was drawn in completely by the end of the first chapter. It is a beautiful, poignant story of loss, betrayal, and forgiveness.
Hartley is a runner. Abandoned by her father at a young age, and poisoned towards men by her mother’s bitterness, she does not get attached to anyone. A brilliant video editor, she is a nomad, packing up and moving on to the next location, to avoid laying down roots.
Hudson, a man of few words, also doesn’t let anyone close to him. His father is in and out of prison, his brother took off and never looked back, and his mother died, leaving him with no one.
The two share an undeniable pull, though, likened to the pull of the moon on the tides. The chemistry between them is beautiful, nothing less. They have a policy of honesty between them, and through that, they learn to trust and open themselves up.
The characters are incredibly well developed with such depth, that you can’t help but share in their emotions. Even Bilbo, Hudson’s lovable English Bulldog, takes on a life of his own.
If you are a fan of second-chances, and emotional roller coasters, this is a must-read!

Okay one of my rare 5 stars of 2018.
I took a minute to fully digest this book and I have to say I truly loved it. It's my first read from this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
There are moments of "insta love" like feels which usually turn me off but I just kept wanting to know their story. Hudson is a great hero in this. The first time Hartley sees him he's a hero and then he's an unlikely one.
I thought Hartley was great in this. She was jaded but honest, even when it was painful. I think he evolution through this story was honest. She wasn't a doormat which I truly appreciate in heroines in the contemporary genre. Also she's got a cool job. I appreciate that.
I would definitely read other contemporary books by this author.

Love and forgiveness
That is truly the theme of this story! Hartley is broken although she does not acknowledge it! The supporting characters in the story bring lessons, wisdom, and clarity to a subject that plagues so many of us, abandonment! The ripples of being abandonned by a loved and trusted one cuts deep and infects every fragment of our lives if we let it!!! This story gives hope that we can fix those issues if and when we choose to! Love and forgiveness, letting go and choosing another path! Bravo Candace!

Everyone needs to read this book!!! Its beautiful, powerful, emotional!! You get lost in the story and the lives of the characters!! The message is about love, loss, forgiveness and second chances!! It keeps you captivated with shocking twists and turns it will blow you away! It's written so beautifully! I fell in love !!! I really love that the author captured the essence of the story so well! This book will put your emotions through the ringer. Sheesh! I'm NOT a cryer and even my eyes got leaky. Life... I'm not sure if it's the message the author is trying to portray but after you dive into this book and follow the characters you may just start asking yourself questions. Love found, love lost, estranged siblings and choosing your path. The book is deep and heavy but I will say I truly enjoyed it. Buy it, read it and be sure to grab a tissue box.

OMG this book was so good, riveting, heartbreaking and romantic. I’m still having a lot of feelings just thinking about it. I loved everything about it, enjoyed every second and minute I spent reading and couldn’t put it down. I was drawn and pulled into a story from start to finish. This storyline was so different from what I used to read, but that’s what I like the most about it. The author is simply amazing story teller and develops an amazing characters and plot that will stay with you.
I loved that this wasn’t just a love story and romance but also a story about finding yourself and learning to forgive – forgiveness, overcoming the hurt and learn to love again. It’s quite poetic and has moral message. This is first love and second chance romance – which is one of my favorite genres.
Hartley is a photographer and an editor. She travels the world doing what she loves, but she is also running for her past and doesn’t really have roots. She is avoiding relationships or getting attached. But I like her. I love her strength and independence.
Hudson is a bar owner in Florida. He doesn’t trust easily. He has been dealt a bad hand in life and because of that he is a little damaged. But he’s also sweet, loving, caring and understanding. Love that he is honest and always says what’s on his mind.
I loved the way they met and their chemistry and connection. Love that it was written in three acts and to have a possibility to see progress of their relationship but also the development of the characters. They had so many obstacles to get through. Their road to HEA was not easy. There were so many issues and their past demons with which they needed to confront. I needed them to communicate more but I understand why they didn’t. Loved that both characters were complex and flawed. I loved that Hudson despite being flawed, he was open to change and changing and embracing it. I was rooting from beginning for these two characters. Their love story is deeply emotional and at times heartbreaking. But I love the way they found each other again and really gave a shot themselves to be happy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this author’s writing. It was absolutely mesmerizing. I recommend this book.

I was not expecting that plot twist until I was just about to read it! Wow!
I usually don’t like books that span over years. Well, not that I don’t like them, but that if it deals with a couple, the lost time. I liked seeing where their lives went during that time. My heart broke after the twist. But love always wins! Loved the ending and the epilogue!

I love Hartley and her journey to finally realize she is worthy of love not only from herself but from another is truly beautiful. The love story between Hartley and Hudson is raw, real and sometimes gut wrenching but I love it. Do yourself a favor and read it, you won’t regret it!

What an emotional, roller coaster ride, with a wide range of peaks and valleys. I never knew if I was going to be angry, sad, tearful and or happy. If you truly enjoy a love story that makes you feel like it could have been written about parts of your life...then grab this one, hold on and enjoy the ride. This is going to be a short(ish) review. Why? Because this book can essentially be summed up in one word - beautiful.
It's been a while since I read a book where the characters actually set the butterflies in my stomach going, but this managed it. Emotional, character driven storytelling at its best.

Hudson is a bear of a man that pushes everyone away. Hartley doesn't need pushing, she runs. But in the end can she run in to Hudson's arms.
I quite like this type of writing, it isn't a hearts and flowers kind of love story. But somehow that makes it more real.
Hopefully Silas's story is on it's way.

Amazing!!
This book was so emotional for me that I cried, laughed, got angry, and smiled with every word that was written. Hartley is the girl that so much of us are that you couldn't help feeling every part of who she is. Hudson is the man that we all wish to find and love. Silas is the friend we all need. Great book!!

A story I will never forget...
I just finished this story and don't even know where to begin. This is definitely a book that will make you think, make you angry, make you swoon, and make you want to read it all over again.

Wow!! Candace Knoebel is a brand new to me author and I am IN LOVE!! This story had all the feels. I felt like this is one of the most realistic love stories I have read in a long time. Pick this one up today - you will not be disappointed!

After reading another book by this author I decided to read this one and wow, what an unexpected gift. Loved it hard, was really good. I laughed, cried, swooned and fell in love.

I have no idea how I stumbled across this book. It was difficult getting into, but beautiful once it blossomed.
