Code Week at Lomie G. Heard Elementary
Lomie G. Heard Elementary School is Clark County School District's premier public magnet school focusing on coding and robotics for all learners in elementary grades 1-5. Since opening in 2017, we offer our students a variety of coding experiences with visual coding blocks such as Scratch and Code.org, text based coding in Python or HTML/CSS, as well as AR/VR, and Unreal Engine 4. Students also have opportunities to work with a variety of robots such as Ozobot, Dash and Dot from Wonder Workshop, Spheros and Lego Mindstorm EV3. Computer Science Education Week (https://csedweek.org) is held December 9-13. To celebrate, our school hosts Hour of Code (https://hourofcode.com/us) activities every day that week. We would love to have you visit our classes and learners to help them gain a further love and understanding of coding. What can you do with our leaners?
-do an unplugged activity to help them understand a coding concept such as sequence, loops, binary, functions, etc
-demo a game or app you developed or are currently working on
-help them write some code to accomplish a basic task
-share your story about coding and/or your job

Equipment special needs
Every classroom has a ceiling mounted projector with HDMI and VGA video inputs and 3.5mm audio. Some classes have a Windows computer or Mac computer connected to the projector via VGA. You are welcome to bring your own device, but will need to provide your own HDMI cable. Please let us know if you have any other special equipment needs. All learners have Chromebooks they can use for hands on activities. We also have a computer lab with 30 HP desktop computers available for your use. Please indicate if you'd like the learners to have their Chromebooks to use or if you need the computer lab.

Family Coding Night
On the evening of Wednesday, Dec 11 we will be hosting a Family Coding Night for our school families from 3:30-6:00pm. The evening is a time for the families of our learners to experience the types of coding they do during the school day. Would you be willing to do any of the following? We will contact you for details and arrangements on anything you can do.
