Anne Little is the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the City of Salisbury. She spoke candidly with an undercover Accuracy in Media journalist about the city’s DEI efforts and the political pressure surrounding them.

“Needless to say, equity work is not a whole lot… around these days,” Little said, before quickly correcting herself. “Well, I won’t say that. It’s just the politics of the DEI.”

When asked whether that political climate was affecting her work, Little acknowledged the pressure, but said Salisbury’s support for the department remained very strong.

“No,” she said. “Depending on what your belief system is, we’re beyond blessed in terms of our job and what we do with the city.”

Little went on to praise Salisbury officials for continuing to support the department.

“Our city’s support for our department, it’s just been amazing. It’s amazing. And so we do a lot of stuff.”

This isn’t the first time Accuracy in Media has uncovered local North Carolina officials continuing DEI work despite the growing backlash against these programs. AIM previously exposed officials in Asheville and Buncombe County discussing their ongoing equity efforts.

In Salisbury, Little suggested the department itself is undergoing a shift in how it describes its mission.

“It’s interesting. We’re going through the shift of who we are and what we do,” she said. “Our city’s been on culture and engagement. We make sure of that.”

The language may be shifting, but taxpayers deserve to know whether the work behind it is changing too.

And North Carolina lawmakers have begun responding.

After Accuracy in Media visited these local governments, the North Carolina House of Representatives passed a strict local-government DEI ban that includes fines of up to $10,000 per violation. The legislation has yet to clear the Senate.

Until lawmakers finish the job, North Carolina taxpayers are left footing the bill for DEI programs that local officials themselves acknowledge are politically controversial, and, in Salisbury, continue to enjoy what Little called “amazing” support from the city.

Matthew Goldman, a composition lecturer at UCI has made multiple inflammatory posts cheering violence and death online with impunity by the university.

His academic work has included courses examining conspiracy theories and mass incarceration. At Chapman University, Goldman has also taught courses centered on protest movements and campus activism.

Now, Goldman is facing renewed attention over two posts involving ICE agents and conservative journalist Nick Shirley.

Goldman appears in screenshots shared by education policy advocate Corey DeAngelis. The account identified as @goldman_writes is shown commenting on an Instagram post promoting an upcoming appearance by Shirley.

Responding to a comment about abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the account wrote:

“lmao abolish ICE. only good ICE agent is a dead one.”

But another comment is drawing particular attention.

On the post announcing Shirley’s appearance, the account wrote:

“Someone can do the funniest thing just before the Kirkiversary.”

Charlie Kirk was assassinated September 10, 2025. Shirley’s upcoming visit to Harvard is planned for tomorrow, just one day ahead of the brutal public murder’s anniversary.

Previously, following the 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, Goldman posted, “Let’s not pretend as if America isn’t the greatest country on earth.” The Instagram post featured an image of the “Super Mario” character Luigi holding a gun to someone’s head.

Following the death of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in 2023, Goldman shared a grim reaper meme declaring, “HENRY KISSINGER!!! Fucking Finally!” Goldman added his own caption to the post: “Hahahahahahahaha.”

Goldman is tasked with teaching the next generation about activism at UCI, even as his own brand of activism has included publicly celebrating death and directing violent and threatening rhetoric at those he opposes.

But this is hardly the first time UC Irvine has faced questions about when activism crosses the line into intimidation and violence.

Previously, UC Irvine students held a violent, illegal encampment. Some of the antisemitic radicals even handed out pamphlets defending the brutal October 7th attack.

Eventually, the encampment turned into a violent takeover of a lecture hall and 47 radicals were arrested.

Accuracy in Media investigators went undercover to find out what was really happening inside North Carolina’s local governments. What officials said when they thought the cameras weren’t rolling tells a very different story from the one taxpayers might expect.

An Asheville city employee spoke with an undercover Accuracy in Media investigator who asked about the government’s DEI office.

The response was enthusiastic.

“Yeah, it’s amazing and it’s growing, too. Yeah, yeah, we’re still chugging along.”

And that wasn’t an isolated admission.

Nnweyna Smith, Human Affairs Coordinator for Buncombe County, North Carolina, was also captured speaking candidly with an AIM investigator about the future of the county’s equity efforts.

Asked about the equity department, Smith acknowledged that the political environment threatened its survival.

“Because, you know, with all that’s happening in politics nowadays, we don’t know how long we’re going to be around. That’s the frightening gamble.”

Buncombe is the county in which Asheville lies. As such, Asheville residents have been funding DEI on both the city and county levels.

Smith’s comments reveal officials who were well aware that DEI programs were under fire — but whose offices nevertheless continued operating.

Following AIM’s previous investigations into DEI programs operating across the Tar Heel State, the North Carolina House of Representatives passed legislation banning DEI programs in local government. Those who violate the law can face fines of up to $10,000 per infraction. 

The Senate, however, has yet to act.

Kansas City’s education establishment faced a rough week.

First, UMKC suspended an administrator after he appeared in an Accuracy in Media video exposing the university’s continued DEI push through deceptive rebranding.

Then, the Department of Justice sued Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, alleging the district helped students transition without their parents’ knowledge.

While already in town, AIM President Adam Guillette visited the district office and pressed its executive director of community relations and government affairs for answers.

The director insisted the district is “here for the students and families.”

The district’s alleged conduct suggests otherwise.

Kansas must enact school choice. It’s time to fund students, not systems.

The University of Alabama (UA) closed its Intercultural Center over the summer and replaced the space with the “REAL Tide Engagement Commons.”

Students were not directly notified of the closure. The center’s phone number was disconnected and its website was removed.

University spokesperson Alex House told The Crimson White that employees who worked at the center “transitioned to other available positions or chose to leave UA voluntarily.”

The center first opened in 2016 as the Intercultural Diversity Center and moved into the Student Center in 2020. The university renamed it the Intercultural Center in 2024 after closing its Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

That restructuring followed Alabama Senate Bill 129, which restricts Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and the promotion of certain “divisive concepts” at public universities.

UA has made other changes since the law took effect. The university renamed its Women and Gender Resource Center the Camellia Center and removed references to gender from its mission.

The Crimson White also reported that the university closed the Frances S. Summersell Library and removed its webpage.

The closure comes after Accuracy in Media released an undercover recording in June featuring Shemaiah Kenon, then an assistant director of the Intercultural Center.

“When I read the draft of the bill, people were calling me like, ‘This is blasphemy.’ I said it’s actually stupid because I found some holes,” Kenon said in the recording.

Kenon also said that “most of our faculty and staff are progressive.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —A staff member at the University of Missouri Kansas City was suspended last week after a video posted online appeared to show her indicating that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs still existed on campus.

In the video, Dr. Kim Johnson was having a conversation with a member from Accuracy in Media.

The group is a non-partisan watchdog organization whose goal is to hold people in power accountable.

Recently, the organization has executed several undercover operations on college and university campuses across the nation in an attempt to expose the existence of DEI-related initiatives and programming.

“We began investigating, and what we found is that even in states where it was explicitly prohibiting divisive diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and curriculum, the work still continues, ” said Adam Guillette, President of Accuracy in Media.

After the video was posted, UMKC responded, saying that Johnson was immediately suspended and that their campus has not housed any DEI-related programming since 2024.

Johnson is the Senior Program Manager of Student Support Services at the University of Missouri Kansas City.

An official at Southern Methodist University was captured on undercover video describing what she called “a lot of maneuvering” surrounding the school’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, according to footage released by Accuracy in Media that purports to show how DEI initiatives continued under different names.

The video, shared Monday by school choice activist Corey DeAngelis, alleges SMU renamed its Office of Diversity and Inclusion the Office of Cultural Intelligence as part of an effort to keep DEI programming less visible.

The SMU staff member, who is identified in the video by Accuracy in Media as Danielle Palomo, coordinator for community engagement, social change and intercultural engagement division of student affairs, said, “As you can probably imagine, we’ve had to do a lot of maneuvering in order to remain kinda hidden under a lot of things. But as long as we can keep doing what we’re doing even to a smaller capacity, that is what we’re going to do. We’re going to do our best.”

In the video, an undercover journalist asks Palomo, “I was hoping to see if y’all had any existing, like, equity trainings that maybe y’all provide for staff faculty and that would give us an idea of what to go off of.”

Palomo responded, “So, all of that is held through our Office of Cultural Intelligence. As you can probably imagine, we’ve had to do a lot of maneuvering in order to remain kind of hidden under a lot of things. But my office in particular, we do — we have had trainings like that in the past with students.

“It’s not going to be as severe, hopefully, as some of the other public universities have had to deal with, but I know that the university is definitely finding its like ‘P’s and Q’s’ and it’s slowly like working to like rename things and maybe do away with things,” Palomo said in the video.

While SMU is a private university, it holds 164 active federal grants totaling nearly $30 million from agencies, including the departments of Defense, Health and Human Services, and Education, according to a May 2025 report by its independent student newspaper, The Daily Campus.

The outlet also reported that SMU’s research and development spending has more than tripled since 2010, rising from $18.7 million that year to nearly $59.8 million in fiscal year 2023.

The Trump administration has moved to restrict DEI initiatives at federally funded schools through executive actions and Department of Education directives, though federal judges have blocked portions of those efforts amid constitutional and procedural challenges.

An undercover investigation by Accuracy in Media has exposed what an official at Southern Methodist University in Dallas described as an effort to “maneuver” DEI-related work, rename offices, and continue programs under a different banner.

Danielle Palomo, Coordinator for Community Engagement, Social Change, and Intercultural Engagement at SMU, spoke candidly to an undercover Accuracy in Media journalist about the university’s DEI efforts.

Her description was remarkably straightforward.

“As you can probably imagine, we’ve had to do a lot of maneuvering in order to remain kind of hidden under a lot of things,” Palomo said. “But as long as we can keep doing what we’re doing even to a smaller capacity, that is what we’re gonna do. We’re going to do our best.”

According to Palomo, DEI-related training is now housed through SMU’s Office of Cultural Intelligence. She also acknowledged that her own office has conducted similar training for students in the past.

Palomo explained what happened to SMU’s former Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

“It was the Office of Diversity and Inclusion which is now the Office of Cultural Intelligence,” Palomo said. “And their training, we helped facilitate that training. We helped train the training. So that office still exists just under a different name.”

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion became the Office of Cultural Intelligence and, according to Palomo, “that office still exists just under a different name.”

When the AIM investigator asked whether an employee whose title now referenced “Cultural Intelligence” had previously been the university’s DEI officer, Palomo answered simply:

“Yes.”

Palomo also described a university carefully navigating the changing political environment surrounding DEI.

“The university is definitely minding its P’s and Q’s and it’s slowly, like, working to, like rename things and maybe do away with things,” she said.

Palomo added that she was “a fan of renaming things.” 

These statements raise a simple question for SMU leadership and trustees:

If the university has truly moved away from DEI, why does an employee describe the former Office of Diversity and Inclusion as still existing under another name, and why was there a need to keep this work “hidden” in the first place?

Changing the label doesn’t answer that question.

The University of Missouri Kansas City suspended an employee last week after the individual was caught in an undercover video saying the school continues to practice diversity, equity, and inclusion under a different name.

Accuracy in Media, a conservative investigative group, published the undercover video Tuesday, featuring two of the university’s Kansas City campus employees: Kimberly Johnson, senior program manager of student support services, and Celeste Michael, a graduate assistant in the LGBTQ Rainbow Lounge in the Office of Student Involvement.

Late Thursday, the university stated that it had suspended one of the employees in the video. It did not name which one.

However, Johnson’s LinkedIn profile was taken down sometime over the weekend, according to Corey DeAngelis, a senior advisor with Accuracy in Media.

Additionally, the campus African American Student Union identified Johnson as the individual facing consequences.

A university spokesperson declined to name the individual or comment Friday when contacted by The College Fix.

The spokesperson pointed to the university’s statement on X. “Thank you for bringing this to our attention. This employee has been suspended immediately,” the university stated late Thursday on X in response to DeAngelis.

“As of 2024, UMKC no longer has DEI offices or DEI initiatives. We are and will continue to be in full compliance with federal and state laws and directives,” the university stated.Neither Michael nor Johnson responded to The Fix when contacted by email.
