After several years in IT and web design, I have finally achieved what every computer nerd secretly dreams of: A real job where I spend my days moving wood.
I now work in a warehouse/store selling timber, insulation, screws, roofing, and pretty much everything needed to build a house.
I've gone from: "Can you make the website more user-friendly?"
to: "How many meters of 48x98 do you need?"
My qualifications include owning a drill, assembling IKEA furniture without crying, some small building projects on my own and being willing to learn the difference between various types of wood.
I'm also learning to drive a forklift, so I've officially upgraded from pushing ******* pixels around a screen to moving several hundred kilos of lumber with a machine.
The best part is that when I finish work, I'm actually finished. No clients emailing at 22:47 asking for "one tiny change" that requires rebuilding the entire website.
Career progression? Probably.
Still working on figuring out all the different kind of screws. Also i get to walk around in bigg halls that smell like wood all day
