Our Holland America Alaska cruise in May 2024. Whales,
glaciers, Russian history, and life aboard the Eurodam.

28-29 August 2025
We arrived in Venice on Thursday 28 August and settled into
Hotel Papadopoli. We had a wonderful dinner in the San Croce district. The next day we bought
tickets for the Vaporetto and hopped off at a few stops in the city that we walked and explored.
We returned back to the hotel and San Croce in
time for dinner. After dinner we hired a water taxi for a ride down the Grand Canal and
through the small canals back to our hotel.

30 August - 1 September 2025
On Saturday 30 August we boarded a bus that took us from
Venice to Trieste where our cruise ship, the Oosterdam was waiting for us. We then had a day at
sea. On Monday 1 September we joined a group walking tour of the city of Kotor in Montenegro,
a world heritage site. After the group tour We had a lovely lunch on our own and spent the
rest of the afternoon exploring the town.

2 September 2025
We arrived at port Neo Limani on the island of Corfu
early on 2 September. In the morning we joined a tour by bus to the Achillieon Palace
then returned for a brief introduction to Old Town Corfu. We had lunch and returned to the ship.
We caught Alex's taxi at the port back to Old Town and walked on our own
in and around Corfu for the rest of the day. In the evening we returned to the ship in
Sammy's taxi.

4 September 2025
After a day at sea we awoke to a beautiful sunrise in
Messina. A tour bus took us to the village of Mascalucia to visit Villa Trinita. We
toured the estate then participated in a cooking class followed by lunch. That evening we
cruised by the always active Stromboli volcano.

5 September 2025
The Oosterdam docked at Salerno where we caught a tour
bus that took us to the ruins of Pompeii. After one of our two longest walking tours
on a warm day we returned to Salerno where we walked around and had a
memorable meal at a local restaurant.

6 September 2025
Ah Rome! The eternal city. Circus Maximus,
the Parthenon, Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum, and the Vatican. We rode from Civitaveccia
to Rome in small Mercedes vans with a delightful guide. We were treated to a private
concert by a tenor accompanied by a pianist followed by a multi course lunch
at La Terrazza dei Papi atop the four star Mecenate Palace Hotel.

A walking tour of the heart of the Renaissance.
We rode a bus from our dock at Livorno through Tuscany to Florence then walked a
mile to the central area to visit it's historic sites.

Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera at the Portland Art Museum. The music is from

30 November 2024
Shawala Point in Corvallis is a small
riverside park and viewpoint at the confluence of the Willamette River and
Marys River on the south end of downtown. This video was taken using a
waypoint mission on a DJI Mini 2 drone. (There is no sound.)
Historically, this riverside area was a summer camp and gathering place for
the Chepenefa (Marys River) band of the Kalapuya people, who used the
confluence area for seasonal living and trade. In the early 20th century
the McCready Brothers sawmill operated here until 1955. The name
“Shawala Point Park” honors William Hartless, also known as Shawala,
a Kalapuya man whose accounts are a primary source of cultural and
historical knowledge about the Chepenefa band.

A walk up the trail and back to
Heceta Head Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast 13 miles north of Florence,
and 13 miles south of Yachats. It sits 206 feet above sea level. Set to
the music of Spanish composer Fernando Sor (1778-1839).

A stop at Seal Rock State Park
located south of Newport. It features large off-shore rock formations
that provide habitat for seals, sea lions, sea birds and other marine life.
The beach includes interesting tidepools as well as excellent ocean views
and a sandy beach. This video features some drone footage as well as photos
and video from ground level. Set to the sound of the ocean.
