The time has come for this gurl to retire her lil' blog.

I've been blogging since 2004 and 11 years is enough.

I'm too busy doing other things.

I've been sewing Dottie Angel frocks for myself.

Even made a few hats.

I've been painting canvases.

Bubby even joined in.

I have a new grandson 'Lucky Boo.'

Bubby is extremely proud of his lil' brother.

So I'm wrapping this up in a cute lil' package with a bow on top.

It's been a tad bit since I've posted and thought I'd show ya what this gurl has been up to.

Of course, if ya follow me on Instagram you've prolly already have seen these.

I've been doin' a bit o'thriftin' and found this lovely Free People top.

I took a day to wander around downtown Seattle.

I love my new Ikea metal and glass yarn storage cabinet.

It reminds me of an old doctor's office.

I can't wait to fill it up with luscious yarn!

I'm obsessed with late night weaving and blame it on Dottie Angel.

I finally finished this DIY for Bubby's room.

I'm afraid he'll think it's a ball and want to throw it so it'll prolly stay in my room fer now.

I don't mind.

My mama brought me these lovely lil' vintage dollies to stitch up.

She thought they'd be cute for the new grandbaby I'll be blessed with this fall.

And finally, I'm croshayin' myself one of these blankies from a vintage croshay book I thrifted.

I'm hopin' and crossin' my croshay fingers that I'll follow through with completion as I have croshay attention deficit disorder.

There's always another project I wanna try and I get bored with repetition.

It's my hope to start postin' more here but if don't see me come and join me over on Instagram.

Use an Electric Mixer to Wind Yarn!

What?

After this idea came across my feed on Facebook, I 'bout fell outta my chair!

I had to give it a go.

I already have a yarn winder but this goes so much faster and works great with leftover yarn from a skein.

I didn't have a hand mixer (mine's the big Kitchenaide lug), so I picked one up at the thrifts for a few dollars.

You could also use an electric drill with a mixer head attachment, but you'd hafta use two hands, one to hold the drill and one to keep the tension on the yarn, which could be a bit tricky.

Cut a small slit at the end of the roll, slide it on the mixer head attachment and attach the yarn to it.

Hold the yarn to keep a firm tension on it otherwise it'll be all tangled up on the mixer head.

Set the mixer on the counter, turn it on low speed and watch the magic happen!

I was also thinkin' if you have yer yarn rolled up nice and tidy, you could stick the roll on one of those paper towel holders which would prevent the yarn from gettin' messy and make it oh so much easier to croshay.

Storage would also be easy because you could hang them from anything.

Store up on those toilet paper rolls ladies!

One of my favorite things to do is croshay hats for lil' Bubby.

This Shaggy Lion pattern is from the book Crochet at Play by Kat Goldin.

It's the perfect hat for a fall photo shoot and he just happens to be a perfect model!

RAWR!

ps. Chunky is the new Hunky!

pss. If the hat didn't have ears, you'd think he has hair like mine!

Nothing can escape my hook

Some time ago, this gurl traveled along the Oregon coast and discovered a glass blowing studio where I could make my own glass float.

I opted for the traditional color and was pleased it turned out how I'd envisioned.

My float has been moved around the cottage quite a bit as Bubby has been threatening to throw the 'BALL'.

I decided it needed its own safety net.

Out came my 25mm hook (purchased for 40% off at Hobby Lobby) and some clothesline rope.

I had to stand up in order to croshay.

I'm sure it's quite the sight to see a person trying to maneuver a hook of this size.

Now it will be hanging so as to not entice the Bubster to throw it against the wall.

I'm so happy with how it turned out!

Lil' Wooly Pin Dolls

This gurl just couldn't help herself.

She had to make wooley jackets for some pin dolls.

This isn't the first time I've made pin dolls.

Way back in the time machine, 2007 to be exact, I made a chorus line.

If yer new to croshay, this is a perfect project to practice your stitches using a smaller hook.

Just make up lil swatches, wrap them 'round the shoulders of yer lil' doll and stitch the ends up the back to secure.

These serve no useful purpose other than makin' ya smile.

Or maybe you could hook up a bunch for a toddler to play with.

A perfectly patchy Pippi rug & the Rodeo Kid

When I was a wee gurl I loved Pippi Longstocking!

While I was wandering the aisles of my local JoAnns, I ended up in the book section.

I was lookin' for inspiration and boy did I find the perfect book.

It's filled with lots of fun projects and the first one I had to make was the Pippi rug.

Anything with clogs is a good thing.

For the skirt portion, I used an embroidered pillowcase I thrifted and chopped up a bunch of bright fabrics I had gathering dust in my cupboard upstairs.

Some are thrifted sheets or old shirts.

Even though this is a rug, I certainly can see it as a wallhanging.

I mean, who really wants to get something so cute dirty?

I have declared in my household tis only MOI who can set her tippy toes on Pippi.

If you'd like to make one, there's a tutorial online here so you really don't have to buy the book to make one.

But I do recommend it.

I'm not a paid spokesperson, I just thought I'd share!

It was a tight deadline but I managed to do it!

This gurl found a cute wicker bag at the thrift.

The front was covered in ugly seashells (a craft fail?) and I immediately thought it needed to be rescued and adorned with some croshayed raffia flowers.

It's almost done.

This stitch is so fun!

I used sock weight yarn purchased from JoAnns to make a scarf.

I believe it's Debra Norville yarn.

Crocheted Pom Pom Edging

This gurl's hook has been super duper busy!

I thrifted these scarves and decided the grungy fringe had to go.

What better than pom poms?

I used a 2mm hook and single croshayed around the edge.

Then I started makin' the pom edging Ms. Once Upon A Pink Moon taught me.

I'm thinkin' of usin' baker's twine yarn and croshayin' poms on dish towels next.

Croshayed Coin Purses

Quite a while ago, this gurl purchased a bunch of coin purse frames with gumball closures.

I do find coin purse frames a bit fiddly to work with and avoided them as I never could get the purse portion to fit correctly.

With Mother's Day approaching, I dug 'em out and determined lil' croshayed coin purses were the perfect gift.

I stitched up a swatch and was quite pleased with myself that it actually fit.

Success!

So, I made another one and I'm sure there will be more.

Could it actually be true?

Warmer weather is headed my way in time for my birthday!

Yes! Yippee!

I thrifted a vintage croshay book and found this pattern for a strawberry potholder.

I certainly won't be using it as it's intended because it's just to beautiful to get dirty.

I'll hafta add one of those lil' white rings so I can hang it in my breakfast nook.

I also finished a croshayed dress this past week.

One of my biggest hair pulling projects evah!

I hate it when that happens.

Talk about a flashback.

Oye!

My great grandmother made me one when I was about ten years old and I still have it.

I decided to keep it simple and opted not to include the picot edging.

I used this yarn which is now becoming one of my faves.

I know it's summer but it's still cool 'round these parts.

I think it will look cute with a short sleeve tee and denim skirt AND these!

The delivery man brought me some happy mail this morning!

My new sandals.

They're so cute and comfortable and I'm lookin' forward to wearin' 'em

IF it ever gets nice enough!

Revival of the Pineapple Bowl

2014 the YEAR OF THE PINEAPPLE!

There are some who declare Foxes, Anchors, Hedgehogs and such as 'THEIR' year--so why not a Pineapple?

Dee inspired me to skip on down to the thrifts in search of those wooden bowls gatherin' dust on the shelves of misfits.

You know the ones.

Ya see 'em all the time.

Fer cheap.

It never occurred to me that simply givin' 'em a coat of paint could TOTALLY change their life!

DUH!

First, I painted the inside of each bowl with gold leaf.

Not a Pineapple, but Leafy lookin' bowls are cool too!

Then I used different colors of acrylic and painted just the top portion of each bowl with several coats.

After each one was dry, I sprayed 'em with a coat of clear paint.

After the clear coat dried, I rubbed the base side with olive oil to restore the natural look of the wood.

Aren't they gorgeous--in that 'mid-century modern' way?

More pineapples, here, here, (of course I'm gonna croshay a Pineapple!), a croshayed bag, how 'bout a tea cozy, or a scarf and ooooooo this one!

This gurl has been on a craftin' binge! I pulled out a wooden loom I purchased years ago and started rippin' up vintage sheets into strips and weavin' them into squares. I tried a bit of chunky yarn too.

So much fun!

And with Easter comin', I found some plastic ping pong type eggs at Wally World. $2 for a dozen. Played around with modge podgin' fabric on 'em and drawin' faces.

It didn't stop there.
