September 20, 2026: Between Earth and Water: Readings on Migration, Belonging and Survival
What does it mean to live between worlds—between countries, languages, identities, and selves? On September 20th, Sunday Salon NYC presents Between Earth and Water, a reading featuring four writers whose new and recent work explores migration, belonging, the body, and survival across borders and generations. Spanning hybrid memoir, poetry, fiction, and narrative nonfiction, their work moves from the Philippines to Southeast Alaska to New York, tracing how people endure, adapt, and claim space—on the page and in the world. Alison Kinney
Alison Kinney (she/her) is the author of three nonfiction books: United States of Rejection: A Story of Love, Hate, and Hope (UGA Press, 2026), a cultural history of rejection and acceptance in our nation; Avidly Reads Opera (2021); and Hood (2016). Her essays and articles can be found online or in print at The New Yorker, The Paris Review Daily, Lapham’s Quarterly, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Believer, Harper’s, and other publications. Alison teaches creative nonfiction at Eugene Lang College at The New School and lives in Bed-Stuy.
Joseph O. Legaspi
Joseph O. Legaspi, a Fulbright and NYFA fellow, is the author of the poetry collections Amphibian, Threshold and Imago; and the chapbooks Postcards; Aviary, Bestiary; and Subways. A of co-founder of the nonprofit Kundiman, he works at Columbia University, teaches at Fordham University, and resides with his husband in Queens, NY.
Ed Lin
Ed Lin, a native New Yorker of Taiwanese and Chinese descent, is the first author to win three Asian American Literary Awards. His latest book, The Dead Can’t Make a Living, published by Soho Crime, is the latest in his Taipei-based crime series. David Tung Can’t Have a Girlfriend Until He Gets Into an Ivy League College, his first YA novel, was published by Kaya Press. Lin lives in Brooklyn with his wife, actress Cindy Cheung, and son.
Nita Noveno
Nita Noveno is the recipient of the 2024 Women’s Prose Prize from Red Hen Press for her hybrid memoir Mud on the Moon, published in August 2026. Publishers Weekly calls it “a moving blend of autobiography and imagination” and “an auspicious first outing.” A graduate of The New School’s MFA Creative Writing Program, her creative nonfiction and hybrid work has appeared in MÄ€NOA, Hippocampus, The Margins, and elsewhere. She teaches creative nonfiction, composition, and literature at Borough of Manhattan Community College, CUNY. The child of Filipino immigrant parents, she grew up in Southeast Alaska and calls Astoria, Queens home.
DJ DUBSIX
DJ DUBSIX was born and raised in Queens, NYC. He mixed cassette tapes as a child, dropped needles to grooves as a teen, and now curates soundscapes that engage both the body and the mind. His musical selections tell stories and fill dance floors—and are why people say he is the “music man.” Remember to wear your dancing shoes and be ready to embrace your inner rebel when DJ DUBSIX is juggling tunes. He is about musical revolution using the 1s and 2s.
