I wanted to reach out because I thought this might be interesting for 43 Rumors.

I’ve been designing and building a modular digital camera called the WLV-01. It originally started as a Raspberry Pi camera project, but I’ve now expanded it to include Micro Four Thirds-sized sensors, such as an IMX294 colour sensor and an IMX492 monochrome sensor.

Great news for OM System!

I talked to store managers and preorder numbers seem to be on the high end of their expectations. The camera seems to sell well because of the beauty + reasonable price (considering current market situation). The OM PEN is currently climbing the B&H Photo ranking despite the disadvantage of being counted separately for the Black and Silver edition. The Amazon ranking still doesn’t display the camera because preorders there opened late after the painful leak of the day before.

I’m sure the new OM-PEN will have a 20MP sensor, but it’s unclear whether it will use the OM-3’s 20MP stacked BSI CMOS sensor or the OM-5 II’s 20MP Live MOS sensor. Its relatively low price of around €1,000/$1,000 leads me to believe it will use the latter.

A new source told me this:

I heard from a trusted source that there’s only 121 cross type af points on the sensor. That may come from the previous sensor and it means that the sensor might not be stacked after all. Let’s see what will come…

If true this would point towards the non stacked sensor. What do you think?
