Torx head ruined after unscrewing the first screw. If you have 4 screws to do, you should order 4 drivers.
I ordered this to remove Torx-T6 screws from a Macbook hard drive. I removed the first screw, but while unscrewing to the second one, the driver ripped, and I noticed that the head went smooth. The star-shaped head was now completely round (and useless). I have 3 more screws to go. I guess I need to order 3 more drivers! Seriously, I understand that this was a cheap box of drivers; but the material that they used to manufacture those tools is way too soft and brittle. Maybe I got a defective set ... Well, what would "defective" mean for such a simple tool? Maybe they sometimes mix something within the iron/steel/whatever at the factory, causing the product to lack the required hardness? :-)

Tool worked great for my project to open my controllers for a cleaning. Had it popped open in less than five minutes and back together within another ten. My set arrived without any defect and I loved the case that another reviewer described like a calculator cover, it totally reminds me of the calculators my math and science teachers passed out when I was in high school many moons ago.

From my experience with them I have disagree with those who claim the tools are made of shoddy material that strip, bend and break with little use. Methinks they're applying too much force or doing projects these torx screw drivers were never intended for. While the tools probably wouldn't be considered industrial grade they work well enough for minor electronic projects and for the price I'm happy with my purchase.

I ordered this kit because I bent the pocket clip on my pocket knife a week and a half ago while helping a friend move...

no problem, just need to get a torx bit that fits the screws, take it off and bend it back into shape.

so I ordered this torx set from amazon last week, it arrived today and I excitedly opened the package to find them nicely ensconced in a box with a sliding lid that will help keep the small drivers from getting lost. so in a torx bit parody of the three bears, I tried the biggest and smallest bits and eventually found one that was just right. I used the use the screwdriver to remove the first of two screws, it fit perfectly and worked like a charm! Huzzah!

so after my small victory dance, I went to remove second of two screws, and the bit striped as if it were made of butter. fail.

so now my clip is in worse condition than it was before I spent money on this piece of garbage torx bit, and I'm out $8.50

normally I would be willing to attribute failure to operator error, maybe I used the wrong size (that's why I bought a set of different sizes), or maybe it wasn't fully seated in the screw head before force was applied, but it sheared the fins off perfectly to the exact depth of the screw head.

I would only recommend this kit to anyone that needs to remove one torx screw of unknown but small size, without the need to actually tighten it back up ever.

    Cheap but effective

They look cheap, they feel cheap, they are cheap, but they work. The plastic handles are flimsy and oddly shaped. The metal shafts don't appear to be particularly hard. I wouldn't trust these in a challenging, but in a lab where they'll see gentle use these are fine. On an absolute scale of torx drivers these are maybe a two star product, but considering the price I give them four stars for value. If it has to work without failure, pay more for something better. If you're more likely to misplace the tool than overwork it, this is what you want.

It's a bit ironic that this is considered the deluxe kit.

    Absolutely perfect for my need
Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2010

I specifically ordered this to open my reconditioned TomTom ONE XL 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Maps of the U.S. and Canada. The battery went kaput on me and I decided to meet the challenge and change it myself. Imagine my surprise (me, a formerly of the jewelry trade and master of all things with tiny screws) when I could open the Tom Tom with neither a Phillips head nor a flathead screwdriver. I tried over a period of days with no luck; just couldn't get a grip.

Well, I quickly researched the "Torx" head, or as my hardwarian son calls it, a "star bit" and found, with his help, that small ones are only available at places like Radio Shack, and maybe not even there. So, Amazon fan that I am, I found this set for less than $5 including shipping! Cheaper than starting my car twice. Anyway, I may never use this again, but it came in less than a week, and my Tom Tom battery was changed (not for lack of obstruction on Tom Tom's part)successfully. For light electronics, watches, and other light applications, these are fine.

A couple of nice features you might note:

The case is really nice. You can't tell it from the photo, but the lid slides open and fastens behind the case. When it is fully closed, there is a clear piece of plastic that allows you to see the product inside. But rather than those fragile hinges that come on most such tool cases, this one slides back and fastens under the case, much like a scientific calculator case.

Secondly, the base of each individual tool is made of a soft rubber material, allowing one to set them up on a workbench in size order, to avoid fumbling for the correct size. I remember a jeweler who sat all his necessary tools out in front of him before he started a complex job. This will probably never be an issue for me, or 99% of you either, but hey it shows some thought anyway.

All in all, it does the job, and looks pretty nice too. Someone said these were Dollar Store quality, and I beg to differ. They aren't Craftsman or Snap On, for sure, but they are solid and attractive. I may never need this type of tool again the rest of my life, so spending more than $5 would have made me changing my own battery prohibitive, but this was worth taking a chance on. I'm glad I did.

3 stars because these tools were cheap quality, though they worked to complete the job (removing tork screws to upgrade iMac hard drive) the handles were small which made it a little hard to grip. They were pretty inexpensive so ok for one or two jobs like this... If I needed them for many jobs I'd look for better quality with larger handles and probably longer stem. Also these are not magnetized so I had to use a small pair of needle nose pliers to pick up the screws as they were being extracted. Not too convenient when working on small electronics.

I needed a t5 to upgrade my laptop and bought the whole set. Solid construction, nice case. The lid flips around so that the bottom of the case sits in the top when opened. The clear plastic in the cover is loose and falls out on mine but that's not really a big deal. The screwdrivers are a lot nicer than the case and hats all that matters.

If you are looking for a cheap but well made set then I highly recommend this one.

I needed a torx driver to open up a Fujitsu digital camera that had gotten sand in the buttons and no longer worked. I opened up the casing with this driver kit and removed the sand and now the camera works like new again.

The build quality of the drivers is low and cheap but for the price I cant complain. If you are buying these for everyday use I would recommend spend more money on a nicer set.

    AWFUL STEEL AND QUALITY!

i bought this torx set and was immediately disappointing! i use torx drivers for dissembling pocket knives and have had decided to try this set because the standard lowes bits kept on bending and chipping after a few weeks. but compared to this set thats amazing.

the problem with this set is the steel they are made of. the T6 driver immediately stripped on the first turn of the first screw it touched! because the steel is so soft the teeth on the smaller bits cant hanndle much of any pressure and bend/ strip almost immediately due to the fact that the teeth are so thin on the small drivers. DO NOT GET THIS SET THE SMALL SIZES WILL STRIP IMMEDIATELY! the only driver that has the potential to not immediatly strip is the T10 because it is the largest. i returned this item after seeing the awful quality. FOR A DOLLAR MORE GET THE "Bondhus 31832 Set of 8 Star L-wrenches, Long Length, sizes T6-T25" its made in the USA and is an awesome torx set.
