 Wow! $12,700,000,000 in Stock Buybacks...

Picture
CCAG's 2026 report on health insurance greed is out - just in time for the Connecticut Insurance Department (CID) to hear requests from these companies to raise YOUR rates.  AGAIN.

Year after year, health insurance companies ask for increases based on last year’s spending - without every giving a true accounting of how the funds were spent.
The CID is holding a forum to hear from the public next Wednesday.

The report is
here.  Pick your favorite disgusting fact! (Ours is $12.7 billion on stock buybacks.)

Tell PURA: Reject Eversource’s Rate Hike Request

Picture
Eversource is asking to raise Connecticut electric bills by about $25 more each month for a single household.

This is the same company that posted $1.69 billion in profit last year, saw shareholder returns rise, and paid its CEO $13.5 million.

Connecticut families are already paying some of the highest electric bills in the country. Many people are cutting back, falling behind, or making impossible choices just to keep the lights on.

Now Eversource is asking for more.

PURA, Connecticut’s utility regulator, has the power to reject this rate hike. They need to hear from us now.

A monopoly utility should not be allowed to keep shifting costs and risk onto ratepayers while shareholders and executives are protected.

Tell PURA: reject Eversource’s rate hike and protect Connecticut families, not corporate profits.

 Investigate the Avangrid-PURA Communications

Picture
Recently released public records revealed repeated phone calls and text messages between a PURA commissioner and an Avangrid executive during the period between a draft and final decision in a major utility rate case.

The final decision ultimately shifted millions of dollars in Avangrid's favor. While we do not know what was discussed, the timing, frequency, and lack of transparency raise serious questions that deserve an independent investigation.

The Connecticut Office of State Ethics needs to investigate these communications to determine whether ethics or ex parte rules were violated. If public confidence in this decision has been compromised, the case should be reopened and reconsidered.

Connecticut deserves utility regulation that is transparent, independent, and accountable to the public.

Send a letter today urging the Office of State Ethics to investigate.
