Czech Tereza Širůčková climbed her first 9a. She completed the route “Hades” in the Nassereith area of Austria. It is the highest difficulty level recorded in the women’s rankings on Lezec. Among Czech female climbers, only Gabriela Vrablíková has climbed a route of the same difficulty.
Zdeněk “Háček” Hák, a top Czech mountaineer and winner of two Piolets d'Or, spoke with Lucie Výborná in an interview about his recent dramatic expedition to Pakistan’s Karakoram. A Czech mountaineer in his 40s died on Thursday on Mont Blanc in the French Alps. While climbing the standard route in the afternoon, he was struck by falling rocks in the dangerous Couloir du Goûter. Michaela Smetanová finished in 9th place last night in the semifinals of the World Cup lead climbing competition in the Slovenian resort town of Koper. Martin Stráník also advanced to the semifinals, finishing 13th. The rest of the Czech team finished in the qualifying round: Tereza Širůčková 26th, Jan Štípek 38th, and Arina Jurčenko 49th. The final, which took place this evening without the Czech Republic, was won by Japan's Neo Suzuki and Slovenia's Janja Garnbret.
Bára Bernardová and Lukáš Mokroluský won the Open bouldering competition at the Teplice nad Metují Climbing Festival last weekend. In this prestigious competition, which is part of the International Mountaineering Film Festival program, Natálie Paarová and Lukáš Ďurech took second place, while Adéla Bodanská and Lysander Naimji finished third. After the European Climbing Championships ended, Adam Ondra climbed a new boulder route called “Little Boy du fond” at Toit d’Orsay in France, north of Fontainebleau and near Paris. He rated the route 8B+/8C, or possibly the easier 8C. Adam shared the news on social media.
Czech Pepa Šindel has added another 9a-rated route to his list: Ratatouille 11 in the Harmanec–Bystrická dolina area in Slovakia. He logged the climb in his logbook on Lezec. In total, Pepa has 26 routes rated 9a through 9b.
The Grand Prix, the top prize in the film competition at the 43rd International Mountaineering Film Festival (MHFF) in Teplice nad Metují, was awarded to the film Deeper. The organizers announced the results at the conclusion of this year’s festival, which took place from August 27 to 30.
On Friday, as part of the International Mountaineering Film Festival in Teplice nad Metují, the Czech Mountaineering Association announced the “Climbs of the Year 2025.” From 41 nominations across the categories of Mountains and High Mountains, Rocks and Boulders, and Competitive Sports, the jury selected a total of 21 award-winning climbs.

The International Mountain Film Festival (MHFF) has called on its visitors and supporters to contribute to the SOS Nepal fundraising campaign organized by People in Need. This is in response to the devastating flash floods that struck Nepal and neighboring Tibet, which, according to available information, have claimed hundreds of lives and left several thousand people missing.
A group of five climbers—three women and two men—became stranded on Saturday night while climbing Milenka in the Adršpach Rocks. Firefighters, paramedics, and the Rock Rescue Service set out to rescue them around 2:40 a.m. After more than ten hours on the rock face, the group was exhausted, soaked, and chilled. This was reported by the mainstream media.
