It doesn't have functionality far in advance of other editors, but the interface is great. There are big, clear icons, themes, easy tabbed interface, and a really smooth options menu. If you think text editors are supposed to be functional rather than friendly, this might not be your cup of tea. Otherwise...

PapaiMark on 2020-02-25 15:11

Nice. The best text compare Ive ever seen. And mainly because of the trim-left/right.

Hi all,

Yes, Great editor !!! BUT:

Although it says compatible with Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10 version v18.2.1 is NOT compatible with (at least) Win XP SR3 (which I still use).

I wrote to [email protected] but no reply as yet.

Anybody has a cure ? a Work Arounfd ? (it may be some useless DLL, for example...)

TIA,

EitanG

I'm getting an error with this: "TakeStock2 was unable to start. An error occured while opening the TakeStock database. Unable to read beyond the end of the stream." This is the same TakeStock database that TakeStock has just created on first run, so it seems something must be broken.

@olliebean, this (bug 183) has been fixed in TS 2 Release 53. Please see:

Chromium is an open-source web browser using the Blink rendering engine and is the basis of many other browsers, most notably Google Chrome, Vivaldi, and Opera.

Chromium Portable is a PortableApps.com wrapper of a 64-bit build by Hibbiki. Hibbiki's builds include many features from Google Chrome that are not available in Chromium such as H.264, HEVC and other proprietary codec support, Widevine support, and Google browser sync using Google API keys. Field trials (variations) are also disabled.

Note: Please read PortableApps.com's notes for additional portability command-line flags: https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/chromium-portable#app-notes. Recommended reading for those that switch between PCs often.

...well, there's more - I launch Vivaldi with my own batch file:
@echo off
REG IMPORT vivaldi.reg
start /wait "" "Application/vivaldi.exe"
REG EXPORT HKCU\Software\Vivaldi vivaldi.reg /y
REG DELETE "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Vivaldi" /f
REG DELETE "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google" /f
RD %LocalAppData%\Vivaldi /s /q
DEL %USERPROFILE%\.vivaldi_reporting_data /f /q
exit
You see, there's also HKCU\Software\Google and - came with version 2.9 - the ".vivaldi_reporting_data" directly in the userprofile.
It's a pity, but nothing that can't be handled with a batch file. Of course the biggest drawback remains the hardware binding of extensions and some settings...

Disneyland is getting deeper and deeper.

It may be useful for you to check:
Settings... \ Appearance \ Compact Layout

And disable:
chrome://flags/#customize-chrome-side-panel

zorro on 2026-06-22 16:35

I marked the deletion of "update_notifier.exe" as optional, because it doesn't register itsself in autostart any more. On the other hand, checking for updates from within Vivaldi doen's work without this exe... given the fact that all chrome based browser cannot really be moved from one machine to another, I would recommend to leave the update exe there, as it's a comfy way to update the "portable" version.
