Top reviews from the United States
- 5 out of 5 stars
Updated changed from 3 to 5 stars
Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2015I really wanted this to work. But there is one major flaw, the R2 button is always on. That's the Right trigger, the most commonly used button on the game pad, is always firing. Makes it hard to play a game when you're constantly running out of ammo. I've heard that this is. Common problem with these controllers. If not for this flaw, the controller would be near perfect.
It pairs easily and the App that comes with it makes it easy to update the controller and let's you know what games support the controller. It also has a diagnostic screen that shows you what is working and what isn't on the controller. You would think this screen would let you calibrate the controller, but that is not the case.
There is no lag. The controller works just as fast, if not faster than you touching the screen. Solid construction, it's not an Xbox or PS4 controller. I don't know how it would hold up, if your a thrower. I'm not a controller thrower, so I wouldn't know.
I will be returning it tomorrow and exchange it for another one. I will update my review once I have a replacement.
Update - Just got the replacement and it works like a charm. I deleted the old controller, since they have the same name and paired the new one on the first try. Very simple and fast pairing. A quick trip to the mad catz app, showed me that all the buttons work as expected with no issues or lag. I push a button or move a stick and I see it as I'm doing it in the app.
Now I fired up Dead Trigger 2 and started mowing down zombies as if I was playing on a Xbox or PS4. It's a completely different experience to play with a controller. Again, there is no lag, so moving and firing are as if your using the touchscreen. It's an awesome controller.

It works, its solid, not as many games work as I hoped.
Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2015Meh. It works. It doesn't work with all the games I want it too like Max Payne. It will hold an iPhone 6 +, though the balance gets thrown off. Battery life is decent too.

Works great, and great customer service
Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2015I've been using this controller for a few months now with my iPad 4. It feels pretty much just like an Xbox controller, regarding the feel, button and stick layout, and feeling of sturdiness. The triggers and shoulder buttons work great. More iOS games are adding controller support, and with some of the better ones, combined with this controller, my iPad feels like a mini console. It works great with my iPhone 6 in the phone clip too.
The only thing I slightly dislike about this controller compared to my Xbox controllers, is that the spring tension on the analog sticks is a little too high for my taste, which can make it harder to be accurate in games which require a lot of very fast direction changes, like some shooters. I've seen other people cite the spring tension as a plus though, so that's just a matter of taste.
I also had a great customer service experience with Mad Catz. I lost the phone clip that comes with the controller, I and emailed Mad Catz to ask where I could buy a replacement, since I didn't see one on their website. They emailed back and said they would send me one for free, even though it was my fault I lost it. A few days later it arrived in the mail.

Works great, but unreliable unfortunately.
Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2016It's a great remote. The phone mount is sturdy and secure. It works perfectly with Minecraft Pocket Edition. But it frequently malfunctions, leaving my character whacking at whatever's in front of him or walking in one direction. The remote becomes unresponsive until you turn it off. I had to avoid going to the Nether when I was using this, for I most assuredly would have died in a lava pit, or from an agro Pigman I accidentally whacked when the controller went on the fritz.
When this happened, sometimes it would pair again a few moments later. Sometimes I would have to switch to the Madcatz proprietary app for the controller and turn the controller on to reconnect. Sometimes it won't turn off unless you remove the batteries. But if I got a good 30 minutes of use out of the controller, it usually becomes unresponsive, it won't pair again, and then I have to restart my iPhone. It WILL NOT pair again no matter what trick I would try, short of restarting my iPhone. Sometimes it would only work for a few minutes before requiring a restart of my iPhone. I'm using an iPhone 7+ 256gb with iOS 10.1.
Before I returned this, I bought a Steelseries Nimbus remote to see if it was my phone or some software issue. I love it. There's no phone mount, but I've found that to be a completely acceptable compromise for a remote that I can finally go to he Nether with, with a complete sense of security. Other than the lava and mobs, of course. Lol. I was worried there was no consistent, reliable remote out there, and I would have to settle for unreliable operation, but that has been proven untrue, and I'm actually excited about the Nimbus. There may even be other great remotes out there, but I've found mine and I'm done looking. If the Nimbus ever fails me, though, I'll just update this review.

Upgrade to ios 10.2 - Fixes Connectivity Issues
Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2016UPDATE on 1/15/17: Controller no longer works. I'm having the same issue as other reviewers, which is the down button on the control pad is stuck in the down position. I've tried multiple work arounds with no luck. Luckily Amazon is willing to accept the return.
I obviously changed my rating to 1-star which is rare for me. A product not working, or performing for the exact reason you bought it is by definition a terrible product. The fact that this is happening for others tells me there is a quality control issue prevalent in their manufacturing processes. Good luck.
ORIGINAL:
I originally had connectivity issues with this controller when I bought it in November of 2016, which at the time ios 10.1 was the latest and greatest software release. However, I read some apple forums and lots of others were having bluetooth issues and 10.2 was going to solve them. I can confirm that after the update to 10.2 in December, my controller has not dropped the connection even once. Prior to the update, my controller would drop every 10-15 minutes. This was an apple problem, and not a problem with the controller. It works great now with no issues. I've been playing an assortment of free and paid games and all work great. My list includes Dead Trigger 2, Final Fantasy V and VI, Halo Spartan Assault and a few others. Since the update, no bluetooth issues.
My guess is that most of the negative reviews were due to the bluetooth issues when ios10 was released. I just wanted to let potential buyers know that these problems are solved (at least for me). I'll update my review if I notice any additional changes.

Good, Functional controller for IOS
Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2015This will be an initial impressions review of this controller. I just got it a few hours ago and have been testing it on games for my iPad mini. I will update my review as I have more time to get to know it.
First off, the controllers comes fairly well packaged. It's not great but it's good and it gives off a somewhat quality appeal from the start. it comes with an instruction manual, stickers, a phone mount, and of course the controller itself. The controller upon first look is rather generic looking. The glossy finish and the branding just brings to mind every horrible generic controller I have seen in my days of gaming. Other than that it seems like a direct copy of the Xbox controller. In hand it has a good weight but not too heavy. It feels good in the hand despite the glossy finish it doesn't feel cheap.. All the buttons and triggers feel well done and appropriately springy and squishy. The joysticks are a little stiffer than I'm used to coming from PS4 and Xbox One controllers, but they are more than usable.
The controller paired easily with my iPad and took me immediately to the app to download. After installing the app I jumped right into Real Racing 3 to see if I needed to do anything else to set it up. Surprisingly despite the game crashing a few times, the controller was recognized and worked right away. Like I mentioned, the sticks feel a little stiff but they won't be impossible to get used to. Other than that, the controls felt great for the game and it was really nice to see such solid controls work on such a beautiful mobile game.
Next game I tried was Modern Combat 5 which also immediately recognized the controller. I may have to do some tweaking to the controller sensitivity for this game as the joysticks movement was much too slow for the nature of the game and what I am used to for a first person shooter. Regardless of my initial issues with the controls of this game, I am fairly sure they can be tweaked to work well.
The final game I took for a spin was GTA San Andreas. Using the controller on the iPad for this game brought back some fond memories of playing this game years ago. The controls instantly felt familiar and worked great. I saw no lag in controls at all and was really impressed with how well it worked here.
I haven't gotten around to using this on my iPhone 6 yet but I wanted to point out my only realistic gripe with the controller so far. The clip that attaches the phone to the controller requires a screw. I'm glad this controller offers a clip at all compared to something like the Stratus XL from Steelseries which has a much more premium looking controller but lacks a phone clip. However, the clip is somewhat cumbersome because it has to be screwed into the controller in the way that it does. It is really a minor gripe but I would have liked to see a better method to attach and remove the clip or for them to find a way for it to fold nicely into the controller without having to remove it. Nonetheless, the clip actually works pretty well. The phone feels like it is well held in the springy grasp of the clip. It is a bit challenging to get it in with one hand but overall it attaches securely to the controller and your phone.
Time will tell if battery life holds up and just the controller in general, but so far besides the aesthetics, I'm very impressed with the quality and functionality of this controller. I will update this review as I spend more time with it, but for now, at ~$50 price point I can easily recommend this controller to anyone looking for a good iOS controller.

fits iPhone 6 plus with a case!
Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2014I honestly don't understand any of the bad reviews with this product. It comes in high quality packaging with a fancy box and battery's are included. I was not expecting this to fit my iPhone 6 plus but it just manages to hold it with little frustration. The controller responds just like a Xbox or ps controller. There's no lag and the control layout is familiar. I'm playing Knights of the old Republic for iOS8 with the Lightning cable to HDTV and its fantastic. The only complaints I have are not even complaints of the actual controller and are mostly what others have said. It's to expensive and there's only a hand full of games you can use it with or would want to use it with. The controller itself works perfect and is exactly as described. The real decision is can this purchase be justified? Well if your like me and a huge KotoR fan then yes absolutely. You should prolly have some games you want to play in mind before pulling the trigger on this purchase as most games are not supported. I'm sure the future will bring more ports and high end games to the App Store but they've been coming at a slow pace so my advice is to have a game/games in mind you want this for.

Works with the new Apple TV 4 generation. Awesome controller for all Apple devices.
Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2015Update 10-30-15
Just added a picture of it working on the 4th generation Apple TV.
*****This controller works flawlessly with the new Apple TV 4 generation. It paired with the apple TV in just a few seconds in the Bluetooth setup tab for the Apple TV. I actually think I like navigating the Apple TV with the Controller better in most cases than the new Apple TV touch remote. I am going to try the SteelSeries Nimbus controller too, to try out, but I think I may be getting more of the Mad Catz C.T.R.L.i controllers because of the button layout is just like the Xbox One and because it feels solid in my hands. The Nimbus has both thumb sticks at the bottom of the controller.
***** Works fantastic with my iPhone 6s Plus
---Original Review---
Everything works fantastic with one exception. You have to download the app on your iPhone or iPad before you par it. It did take several attempts to par it before it took but has worked fantastic sense. All of the buttons and sticks work smooth. Fits my iPhone 6+ with a OtterBox Commuter case just perfectly. Just what I was looking for. Also, my nephew purchased the same exact Mad Catz CTRLi controller and has had the same experiences as I have had.
