So far, I'm very happy with this laptop. Bought the Surface Book because the detachable keyboard allows me to read magazines and graphic novels in portrait mode as a large tablet (via Kindle app), and they render in vibrant colors. The laptop mode (w/keyboard attached) works just fine. Note that it's a bit heavy for the size, but I think this is due to the 2nd/helper battery in the keyboard. The extra weight doesn't bother me at all, but might bother someone shopping for more of an ultrabook class (I got the 15" model; maybe the 13" is a lot lighter). All said, I'm very happy with this purchase so far.

Just received our Surface Book 2 today and going through the set up process. Came on time (next day with order placed on Sunday). Satisfied with the product. as received. Rating is on the product so far.

Have to note the delivery is a different story. Should be 0-1 star. The driver (in his own personal car) actually threw/dropped the package on our porch. So much so it made a loud enough noise to us inside the house to go and check it out. This is a computer and should be handled differently. No damaged seen and the unit powers up to allow the set up process to run. Will comment later if this changes.

Being a generous person, I let my partner try out the new Surface Book that arrived at our house. Here's his review. He's

About a year ago I decided to switch from Mac to Windows for my work computer needs. I started with a generic (but attractive) ultrabook, then acquired a Microsoft Surface Go to reduce weight. Even though it's underpowered, I found the Surface Go's hybrid (laptop/tablet) usage model really attractive. I got a Surface Pen, and experimented with using the Go as a regular tablet, replacing my Android tablet. [Note: not this device]

And then I had the opportunity to use a Surface Book 2, which I'm now reviewing. 15 inch model, Core i5 (so no discrete GPU), 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 3000x2000 touch screen. So what's it like?

First, it's heavy. Three and a half pounds, heavier than any laptop I've used for the last 6 years. Which means that it's not going to replace the Surface Go, it's going to spend most of its time on my desk. That's fine; I know that I'm still waiting for the perfect device.*

Second, the screen is gorgeous. Color gamut and brightness are superb, touch registration is unmatched. My previous benchmark was the Huawei MateBook X Pro, and the Surface Book 2 beats it handily (albeit subjectively).

Third, Windows Hello (face-based login) is blindingly fast. I was used to this feature from the Surface Go and my OnePlus 6T phone, but it's almost instantaneous on the Surface Book 2.

Fourth, the build quality is as good as it gets. Which means that it overshadows the latest from Apple, and it's about the same as the Huawei MateBook X Pro. (And NO MORE BUTTERFLY KEYBOARD!!!)

All of the reviews that I've seen have divided the intended audience for the Surface Book 2 into two. The professionals will pay a crazy price to get the Core i7 with the GTX 1060 and 1TB, and they'll have a portable video editing powerhouse with over 12 hours of battery life. The artists won't be able to afford all that, but they'll get the entry-level Surface Book 2 because of the ability to unplug the screen and use it as a tablet with the Surface Pen.

The configuration that I got is aimed at the second group, and I'm not really an artist. So I don't really fit the target audience, and all I can do is to review the unit as a well-built, slightly over-weight business laptop. And It fits that use case surprisingly well. The screen fits nicely just below the big curved monitor on my desk; I run all of my productivity tools on the Surface Book screen, and do my real work on the external monitor. Once or twice a week I flip the screen around into what Microsoft calls "Studio Mode", and use the Pen to sketch software architecture diagrams. The lag is not perfect, but it's acceptable.

Overall, I like it. Great screen, nicely balanced keyboard, decent performance, great usability, excellent battery life.

* Speaking of perfect, if Microsoft would put a decent processor into a Surface Go, bump the RAM to 16GB, and include the LTE modem, while keeping the weight under a pound and a half, they can come and take my money right now.

This package came by faster than expected!! I had ordered another surface book by other person and got damaged on the way here so I ordered this cost maybe a little more but so worth the wait!! Got here so much faster packaging was impeccable!! Brand new out the box ordered a Toast cover and windows keyboard cover/cheat sheet best investment yet! Loothive!! Best place to order from 100 % recommend!!

This is a very confusing and misleading use of the images. This is using the surface book 2 as a product instead of the surface book that it is selling. The other product details mislead in saying it is a Surface Book 2 and also has that price closer to it. After my purchase, I was very upset. I hope that this is easy to return because this is not cute and i spent surface 2 money I want my surface 2

I work in the IT industry (I have worked with Dells, HPs, and all the ohers). I have used My Surface Pro 3 since 2014 and still had no reason to upgrade it but did it anyway. I am amazed with the speed and performance. I strongly recommend the buy and you wont go back.

Unit was brand new in sealed original factory packaging. Delivery was very fast. Well done.

I love everything about this computer. Light weight, nice keyboard, and I love the tablet feature

Just love love love ...easy to use and pretty powerful laptop and .. tablet 2 in one ...one of a kind !! So happy of my purchase :) it fullfil all of my needs and expectations

It is everything Microsoft said it would be and more. I must compliment them for stepping up their game and making the getting up and running process very easy and innovative.

I bought Book 2 in 2021 although its a 4 year old product and older than book 3 which is also available but much pricey. I did lot of research and found that the technology and hardware Microsoft put in to come up with this product is still unbeatable and even today. Although there many 2 in 1 laptops available, Book series always lead them.

Why do we need 2 in 1 laptop: Though its slightly pricey and weighing a bit, but there is extra ordinary comfort when you use it as a tab and too professional when use for Meetings, Office work or even editing videos, images as graphic designer.

I simply loved this product and think that the investment I did will surely have some returns.

Great product

It's been nearly a year and our surface book 2 hasn't had any consistent major issues *knocks on wood* so far. Initially, there was one minor issue with the headphone jack producing this static buzzing noise whenever a headphone was plugged in, but it went away after reinstalling the audio drivers. And sometimes the screen would go black when trying to use it, but it hasn't persisted and we think it's cause of these new updates Microsoft is pushing.

I wouldn't say it's worth buying it if you don't need the tablet functionality and extra power it has over the surface pro line. But, given that the surface book 3 just came out, I think the surface book 2 is a great buy when on sale. We hope to be able to use our surface book 2 for 5 years and more without any major hiccups...
