Close up of judge raising gavel in courtroom

Singh, Singh and Toor were rightly convicted of first-degree murder. But at what was supposed to be their sentencing hearing, Justice Brenda Brown of the B.C. Supreme Court dropped a bombshell. She ruled that making the killers wait 25 years before they can apply for parole violates their Charter right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment.

Another week, another court decision that shows how far removed many of this country’s judges have become from anything approaching common sense.

Earlier this year, Abhijeet Singh, Gurkaran Singh and Khushveer Toor were convicted of the 2022 murders of Arnold and Joanne De Jong. Gurkaran Singh and Toor were both in Canada on student visas when they brutally killed the elderly couple.

If it were the judges family would she still feel same way?

I wonder of the judge would feel the same way if it were her relatives that were murdered !! She needs to be fired ASAP !!

It shows once again that the cruel and unusual punishment the victims, their families and friends suffer means nothing to our "justice system" and the survivors serve in fact a true and complete life sentence, until their very last breath, without any kind of hope for parole.

Stephan Harper left far too many judge and senate appointments open when he left office, a mistake never made by Liberals. Conservatives need to take lessons from the far more successful Liberals when enjoying the next far too brief interlude of sensible Conservative government. When you have the chance to put like minded folks into the institutions, always do so while you have the chance.

PETER PARKER

It seems old how PM Harper did that. One would think that he would have worked diligently to fill the appointments.

Thank you Mr. Koop for bringing this judicial atrocity to our attention. However I find myself speechless , with feelings of disgust that are too powerful to mention.
