My name is Tori Grant, and my husband Jason Grant and I live in Canada. We are raising funds for Jason’s parents and extended family in Jamaica, who have suffered devastating losses from Hurricane Melissa.

Jason’s mother lost her small restaurant — her only source of income — when the storm completely destroyed the building. His father, who is unwell and mostly housebound, lost most of his home in the flooding and high winds. We were able to speak briefly with Jason’s mother from the hospital and were so relieved to know she is alive, but we have not yet been able to reach his brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, or cousins.

The damage in their community is severe. Many homes have been destroyed, roads have washed away, and most people are without power, food, or clean water. Even the main roads from Montego Bay have been heavily damaged, making it extremely difficult for aid and supplies to reach rural areas. The country faces a long road to recovery — it will take months or even years for many communities to rebuild.

We are raising funds to help provide immediate relief and long-term support for Jason’s family.

The funds will go toward:

• Emergency supplies: food, clean water, hygiene items, and basic necessities

• Temporary shelter: materials to help repair and secure safe living spaces

• Medical needs: medication and care for Jason’s father and other family members

• Rebuilding livelihoods: helping Jason’s mother restore her small restaurant so she can regain income and stability

Jason and I will personally manage all funds raised and send them directly to his immediate family in Jamaica to ensure the money is used for these essential needs. We’ll provide updates and photos as communication improves and progress is made.
