What I thought I knew (What May Come Book 1)Drew K. McKenzieEbookElle Mathis is a twenty-three-year-old woman living alone in New Orleans. She is sweet, unassuming, and completely normal if not a little broken, riddled with anxiety, and working at a second-hand store selling worn-out clothing and repurposed furniture daily, going home every night alone. She was raised by her older brother, Aaron, after their mother up and vanished when she was only twelve years old, leaving a seventeen-year-old in charge of her care and the only person in her life she can truly count on. She is woken one night by the beating of her brother's fist on her door, which turns into an unexpected series of events that throws Elle headfirst into a world she knows nothing about. Now she is alone with a mysterious handsome stranger whom she isn't sure she can trust, and wondering if her brother is even still alive. Along the way, secrets are revealed and she discovers that nothing about her life, down to her mother's disappearance and the father she barely knew, is as she was once made to believe. She doesn't know who to trust. The brother who has raised her and loved her, but has lied to her about every aspect of her life? Or the man who says he loves her and claims is trying to keep her safe? All she knows for certain is her life is literally on the line. The worst part is, she has no clue as to why.
