Wiki Loves Peace (WLP) is an international photography campaign organized by the Wikimedian in residence at the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) under the Wiki4Disarmament project. The campaign is supported by UNODA[a] and aims to document peace-related heritage, memorials, museums, educational institutions, public art, and peacebuilding initiatives around the world through freely licensed photographs and media.

Selected winning photographs will be featured on UNODA's official social media platforms with attribution to the author.

Recognition

To celebrate outstanding contributions, winners will be recognized in two categories. The winning photographs from both categories will be featured on the social media channels of the UNODA, with full attribution to the photographers. This would give the photographers UN recognition for their submissions.

Best photographs

The top three photographs that best capture the spirit and essence of Wiki Loves Peace will be selected by the jury. These images should demonstrate good photographic quality and should effectively portray themes of peace, remembrance, reconciliation, cooperation, or related peace heritage.

Top contributors

The three most active contributors (based on the number of valid submissions) will also be recognized. One selected photograph from each of these contributors will be featured.

Objectives

The initiative aims to:

  • Promote open knowledge related to peace and disarmament
  • Encourage documentation of peace memorials, museums, monuments, and heritage sites on Wikimedia Commons
  • Increase freely licensed media related to peace education and anti-war remembrance
  • Support collaboration between Wikimedia communities and institutions working on peace and disarmament themes
  • Encourage multilingual and cross-cultural engagement around peace related knowledge
  • Encourage youth participation in Wikimedia projects

Timeline

The event will run from 21 September 2026, the International Day of Peace, to 30 October 2026, which marks the conclusion of United Nations Disarmament week. Following the close of submissions, an international and diverse jury will review entries and prepare a shortlist, from which the final selections will be made by UNODA.
