Career
[change | change source]Before playing in the NHL, Drouin played three seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He had a successful time with the Mooseheads. He won the Mike Bossy Trophy for being the top prospect in the QMJHL, the Paul Dumont Trophy for the QMJHL's personality of the year, and the Michel Brière Memorial Trophy for being the QMJHL's most valuable player.[1] He was also named to back-to-back First All-Star Teams.[2] He helped the Mooseheads during the playoffs. They defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs, Gatineau Olympiques, and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies before defeating the Baie-Comeau Drakkar four games to one to win the President's Cup. This earned them a spot in the Memorial Cup tournament. The Mooseheads defeated the Portland Winterhawks 6-4 in the final game to win the first Memorial Cup in Mooseheads franchise history.[3]
He was drafted 3rd overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2013 NHL entry draft.[4] On July 5, 2013, Drouin signed a three-year, $2.775 million entry-level contract to join the Lightning.[5] He was sent down to play with the AHL-affiliate Syracuse Crunch.
On October 20, 2014, the Lightning called him up and Drouin made his NHL debut in a 3–2 loss against the Edmonton Oilers.[6] The next day, he recorded his first NHL point after assisting on a Valtteri Filppula goal in a 2–1 overtime win against the Calgary Flames.[7] Three days after that, Drouin scored his first NHL goal against Ondřej Pavelec in a 4–2 win against the Winnipeg Jets.[8]
On June 15, 2017, the Lightning traded Drouin and a 2018 conditional sixth-round draft pick to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Mikhail Sergachev and a 2018 conditional second-round draft pick.[9] That same day, Drouin signed a six-year, $33 million contract to stay with the Canadiens.[10] On January 19, 2022, Drouin was fined $5,000.00 by the league after cross-checking Dallas Stars player Tyler Seguin during a game.[11]
On July 1, 2023, Drouin signed a one-year, $825,000 contract to join the Colorado Avalanche.[12] He played parts of two seasons with the Avalanche.
On July 1, 2025, Drouin signed a two-year, $8 million contract to join the New York Islanders.[13] He scored 3 goals and recorded 18 assists for 21 points in 55 regular seasons games with the Islanders.
On March 6, 2026, the Islanders traded Drouin along with Marcus Gidlof, a 2026 first-round draft pick and a 2026 third-round draft pick to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Brayden Schenn.[14]
