We got some exciting news this week! 🎉
NTI received a Special Mention in the SDG Champion – Digital category at the 37th Caribbean Broadcasting Union Media Awards for our Interview with STARR Bajan – Janelle Skinner.
It was our first-ever entry into the regional awards, but what makes the recognition even more meaningful is the story behind it!
From learning to speaking up
When Janelle Skinner began finding herself in more spaces where disability and inclusion were being discussed, she realised something, having lived experience didn't mean there wasn't more to learn. So, she started learning.
Through NTI-Coursera, Janelle explored courses around disability, diversity, equity and inclusion, building her knowledge one course at a time.
“Those courses allowed me to be present in these meetings… before I was quiet because I didn’t want to say the wrong thing. I was in my head so much. But once you can take that theory and put it into application, now… I’m more vocal in these settings.”
Learning gave Janelle more knowledge and on top of that, it gave her greater confidence to use her voice.
