The lock is super easy to install. The connect, not so much. The app is a little clunky but all of it works fairly well. I'm not impressed with the inability to remotely unlock the lock without Alexa. But by enabling it through Alexa it can be remotely locked or unlocked from anywhere. It was not user friendly in the least figuring out how to set the pin code in Alexa to enable unlocking. I'm pretty savvy on things like this so when I have to turn to support for help it almost always means the software needs some polish. But after figuring it out and getting it all set up, the bottom line is it works and it works really really well. People who say the lock will only work if you're standing within inches of it either have a defective unit or bad batteries. I've learned to use lithium batteries in everything I want to last. They just work. And for the price difference it's well worth a few extra bucks to install them.

Bottom line, it's a good unit that works well and as stated. I have no complaints other than I wish they'd make setup and use of the software just a little more user friendly. And as a plus I really like it can still be manually operated with a key and the knob, and that it knows when the door is open or not. All great features.

I've tried many different locks but this one is the best by far. Easy to install and utilizes existing outside hardware and key while keeping the outside with the same look. Unfortunately this is an older product so the batteries were no good out of the box. However, this lock is better than some of the new locks coming out. Batteries tend to last almost a year in the old model. The new locks (with built-in Wifi) need to have the batteries changed every three months. This older unit is Bluetooth with a separate wall plug that allows access via Wifi. I was also able to integrate the lock into smart homes such as Google and Homeseer. The most intensive part of the install was inputting Owners and Guests. All users must include their emails and phone numbers. Owners have full control and can operate using the Wifi and/or Bluetooth. They also have the capability to utilize the auto unlock/lock feature which requires a sensor to be installed. Guests can only operate via the Bluetooth. I did not install the sensor since we don't need the additional features that go with it. I can recommend this lock but I'd like to see August stick with the old design to save the inconvenience of changing batteries.

I really like the lock for relative ease of installation and keeping the standard lock appearance on the outside. Most, if not all, other lock systems require you to replace the outside portion of the dead bolt as well. This can involve rekeying or complete loss of a key slot at all.

I say relative ease, because I did not see the part waaaay at the bottom of their product info page that this is made for single cylinder deadbolts only. This is important, because double cylinder dead bolts have shorter tailpieces and do not engage the back of the August. I had to get a different tailpiece for it to work. 2nd problem was the door. It is a 9 light window door that is very wide. This put the frame of the window very close to the lock location making it impossible to engage the latches to attach the lock to the plate. I had to loosen the frame and pull it away from the door to get the unit seated and locked in. Fortunately this was in a garage, and they never installed the screw finish plugs so I could access them.(you can see what I mean in the picture).

As far as the lock itself, so far it does everything I expect. I love the auto relock feature. I'm often in and out of the garage with my arms full. Previously I had a key lock on the inside for extra security, but because of it being a key lock, never used it. With this, I can shut the door behind me, knowing I won't have to go out into the cold garage later to check if it's locked.

I haven't had an opportunity to test the geofencing unlock feature.

Operation is reasonably quiet. Not silent, but quieter than I thought it would be.

On to the remote features. For being a relatively expensive stand alone item, this is not a very good unit. I would expect it to be a much stronger signal, both from the lock, and to the wifi. As per the instructions, you have to have the unit plugged in within 10 feet of the lock. This doesn't offer much flexibility. Surprisingly, I have a very close outlet in the garage, and it still reads only "good" for the bluetooth connection. Admittedly, we are at the edge of our wifi range in the garage, but a wireless security camera mounted outside has no problem getting a signal. The August remote doesn't always connect.

I like that you can have different accounts for different users, but still have them as an "owner". Another device I have we just log into the same account, as the secondary account is limited in access. Not a huge deal, but knowing who utilized the lock is nice info.

This is the August lock to buy.

I love my Gen1 and Gen2 locks, but this one is friendlier for folks with small hands (turning that giant cylinder can be a challenge) or the elderly. Having the simple bar to spin keeps the user experience normal for those who don't like change.

The August Connect module is a bit funny. I first installed it about 2.5 feet from the lock, through a wall of simple wood studs and drywall. The Connect module couldn't find the lock at all. Then I installed is 3 feet away behind a giant metal washer and dryer, and it found the lock perfectly fine with a strong signal. I'm so confused, but whatever. Just be aware that the module can act weird.

This thing works great at sensing when I arrive home and unlocking the door, much better than the Gen1 and Gen2 devices. The auto lock feature also seems to work smoother, and the monitor for leaving the door open works flawlessly. I get alerts if the door is left open, when it eventually closes, and when the lock is manually locked or unlocked (using any method other than the app or the automatic sequence).

Best of all, it doesn't try to lock the deadbolt when the door is open. That was my biggest complaint about the older devices, and they've fixed it perfectly.

Cannot recommend this August lock (over the others) highly enough.

This is my second lock of this type. This model doesn’t seem to get a lot of mention but personally I think it’s the best. The original round one is way too big and awkward. The newest round one is smaller and has built in wifi which is great, but the batteries are expensive and only last about three months. This model hits the sweet spot. It uses regular AA batteries which last a year and it’s size and shape are acceptable. You need to get the bridge to be able to use it remotely and with Alexa integration. I had some problems with installation. My handyman installed it upside down which made it malfunction. I figured that out after he left. I also have had some problems with the bridge which got uncoupled after a power outage and would not link up despite my trying on three different devices, both android and Apple. Then for some unknown reason it worked about a month later when I tried reinstalling it again. August support was not very helpful despite contacting them several times. There is no phone support, only email and online info. When it works, which is pretty much all the time now, it is a great convenience. There have been times when I left home and suddenly wondered if I’d locked the door. A quick look at the app lets you know and a tap will lock it if you forgot. Being able to send invites and set dates and times for access to other people is also very helpful.

This has been the best purchase for our Airbnb yet. I soley give August home credit to making our Airbnb experience amazing.

2. You can see if someone had left your door open (The number of people who do this is ridiculous - buying a self closing door now)

3. Auto lock is fantastic. Although I have experienced locks that autolock almost instantly. I set mine to 30 seconds, I thought I would hate this. But because you can always see in app if the door is closed or not, it brings so much piece of mind.

4. Integration with Airbnb. I can't even start just how amazing this is. I literally don't ever have to manually write out codes and expires when the guest checks out. That amount of automated security is priceless.

5. Being able to do this all the across the world. My wife and I travel a lot. It's the best thing in the ever to be able to grant/revoke access, see an activity log of door opening/closing, and see the battery life of all your components .. all while being 5,000 miles away from home.

The product took less than 10 minutes to install and comes with everything you need to have a lock easily controlled by your phone and Echo devices. I have had the lock installed for a little over a week. I have it set to unlock when I get home and lock 30 seconds after I close the door. The lock does not automatically open just because you are nearby. It opens once you have left the area and return. It sends alerts when the lock is opened and closed. I have added my son as a user with his phone. He still keeps a key with him in case there is an issue, but it's nice to see when he gets home and does not need the key to gain access. The lock works well with the Alexa App and I thoroughly enjoy being able to double check to see if the door is locked when I'm away from home. The lock even alerts me if the door is not closed all the way. I highly recommend this product and would gladly purchase it again.

The is the second lock I got for my patio door. I was trying to decide if I wanted to add a wireless camera system like an Arlo, but decided that I already have a system in place albeit its not the clearest picture.

This oval model doesn't have the auto unlock feature, which is really helpful if you have a couple bags of grocery in both your hands and cant easily get to your keys... but the circular lock I have is set to the front door. I just wanted to know when and if the back door is being manually unlocked.

It is really easy to install. The August app gives you good visual of what to do. Only complaint is the location of the door sense which needs to be parallel next to the bottom of the lock.

If you already have a lock on your app with a connect, you'll want to install the door lock first and add it to the august app before you add the connect for it. Also, if the calibration fails, just close out the August app and restart it. I have found that the app really is the one that has the issue. Once you do that, its really easy to calibrate.

Battery life on the front door last about a year for me. The app notified me when I needed to replace the 4 AA batteries. This model has 4 AA batteries also. Hopefully it will last as long if not longer than the front door one that gets higher traffic.

Prompt delivery, Installation only with a single Screwdriver and completely set up to use this lock in less than 15mins. Both Bluetooth and WiFi worked reliably; a true keyless unlocking when returning home.

I have purchased many august products before and I’m really satisfied and happy with the quality and the build of them. They are easy to install and work really well.

La instalé hace aproximadamente 3 meses, e inicialmente me desilucione un poco porque no funcionaba con control de voz de Alexa, pero la fuí probando con la aplicación de forma remota y la apertura automática con la presencia del celular y me fue enamorando. Al día de hoy ya funciona bien con Alexa, ya puedo abrir y cerrar la cerradura con la voz, es muy útil cuando llevas prisa o cuando necesitas que alguien entre a tu casa y tú no estás. El diseño es muy elegante, de hecho me gusta más que la versión pro hablando de lo estético. Desconozco las ventajas operativas de la pro sobre esta.

The August smart lock system is the best thing I have ever gotten from Amazon it was so easy to install and set up it was only 10 minutes to be fully functional mine i have the away featuresdt up so when I leave it knows and when I return it knows and unlocks the door for me one home from shopping arms full and door is already unlocked I have had other ones that were more grief what it was worth I would never change my door lock again I’m not satisfied with August smart lock system I hope this helps you make your decision I’m glad I made the decision

De fácil instalación. Se puede utilizar en cualquier puerta que tenga un cilindro con pasador y con manija de abrir y cerrar interior. Viene con todo lo que se necesita para dejarlo funcionando (adaptadores, tornillos, etc). Funciona muy bien con teléfonos iOS (no lo he probado con Android). Recomiendo ampliamente comprar esta versión que incluye el WiFi link que te permitirá monitorear la puerta (si es que está abierta, cerrada, con el pasador puesto o no) desde cualquier lado. También creo que el teclado inteligente es muy útil, sobre todo si planeas utilizar este producto en un lugar donde necesitas que entren personas a las que no necesariamente les quieres dar la llave y no quieres estar al pendiente para abrirles de forma remota.
