Almost a year and a half in and I am happy with this external ssd. I have my entire steam library saved to it and use it with my Asus x13 flow 2 in 1 laptop. It is an excellent external solution though speeds aren't nearly as advertised. Even when using it on USB4 as opposed to 3.2. It can peak around 900mb read. That is more than enough speed to load games from though a far cry short of 2000mb as advertised.

The usbc cable that came with it is sturdy and has lasted up until now with no issues at all. It isn't the longest or the most flexible but it is a quality high speed data transfer cable none the less. I have used it with several other 3.2 devices and it performs well.

If you need extra storage to offload your steam library, This is a great option. Just set your expectations of the actual speed accordingly. None the less it outperforms many Sata SSDs I have seen internally in desktop systems. I will buy another one for sure if I end up needing more space.

It's WD and it's expensive so try to get it on a sale. You won't be disappointed.

I played with the idea of adding storage to my now, relic of a console, for a couple of years. What a difference this drive has made! Seriously. I purchased the 2TB because it just makes sense to have more storage. Realistically I only needed 1. I had roughly 25 games on the internal drive of my Pro and wondered why it was so damn slow. This was a much needed "boost." After a very simple setup, I transferred all of my games to my P40. 2 and a half hours later, I was back in the game. I can't say that I experienced crazy fast load times for GT7(what I play mainly on my PS4 Pro), but what I did notice was getting back to the home screen while playing, was smooth and snappy. No more delays or stutter. Almost instant. If you're on the fence, just do it! It's more than worth it and I would highly, highly recommend. The overall construction of the drive feels solid. Lightweight but not cheap. I love that it looks like a shipping container. Rugged. The white text stands out quite nice on the anodized black finish. The RGB is a very nice touch if you like colorful lights that aren't too distracting. So, what are you waiting for?

I was looking to replace the mechanical HDD that I use to capture game clips and gameplay on my Xbox Series X as that drive started clicking, I figured the read/write head somehow became damaged. This wonderful little SSD drive popped up as an ad on my Facebook feed, so I decided to try it.

I already had a 1 TB USB SSD, but somehow that did not work even though the throughput speed was fairly fast (1,000 MB/s). That one is a USB-C to USB-C (or USB-A with an adapter). I used an adapter, and it did not work.

I was pleasantly surprised that this Western Digital one worked, and the console was able to recognize it as being fast enough to use as a capture device. The funny thing is that I hooked it up using the same interface, except instead of an adapter, I used a USB-C to USB-A cable that supported the spec of the drive.

The RGB lighting is a nice little touch. At least with that, you can see power going to the drive. Though the lighting is not customizable on a console, only on Windows with the WD_BLACK Dashboard application.

For those who are thinking about getting this or are going to and will be using it as a capture drive on your Xbox, you will need first to format it to NTFS on your computer. It comes already formatted as exFAT. After formatting it and you then plug it into your Xbox, you will be prompted as to what you would like to use the drive for. Choose "Media." You will then go into your Settings, press the Menu button, and choose Set as Capture Location (or similar).

Even though it is an SSD, there will be those occasional times you want to playback a clip, and you are just presented with the first frame of the clip, and it never actually plays it back. This is just an Xbox bug, but the clip or capture is fully playable on the computer.

Took it right out of the box and have had no issues with it. In personally using it just as a portable ssd not a gaming one. Although there's plenty of storage to do so. It's fast, customizable, and super nice. I didn't even realize it had LED until I plugged it in. It's lightweight and it doesn't get hot to the touch either. Does everything I could've asked for, and when I got it there was an almost half off discount which was even more amazing. High recommend this ssd.

So, why would I buy something this fast to connect to a device with USB 2.0 ports? Simple. They were on sale for $170. The Samsung EVOs and QVOs I usually buy were more expensive. The WD Blues were a little less, but not by nearly enough. Besides, these are SMALL. I can just throw them into a pants pocket and head to a friend's house. And while I may not be using them to their full potential now, if my Wii bites the dust, I have no shortage of options (I would even be comfortable installing VR games on these).

But why use SSDs on a Wii at all? Surely the difference between SSD and HDD is negligible, right? Maybe on paper. In the real world, the USB 2.0 bottleneck that's supposed to nullify the difference between the two technologies somehow ends up amplifying it instead. I tried a 4 TB Passport with my Wii. To say that it was sluggish would be putting it nicely. When you test the difference with a spare SSD you have laying around and the two minute load times go away, it's obviously time to switch.

My only gripes are that these get a bit hot when transferring files (I pulled out a mag fan when the first one hit 140 F), and that they were initialized as GPT. For the love of science, WHY? GPT is only needed for drives over 2 TB. That almost got them returned. The RGB lights don't come on when you connect them to a Wii, either. So, I thought WD had done something weird to make them incompatible with older devices (I wasn't wrong, it just turns out that something is easily reversible). Fortunately it hit me to do a "get-disk|format-list" as I was packing them up. I saw "GPT" and it was facepalm time. Sure enough, after switching them to MBR, they work great.

Awesome! Absolutely what I needed to keep playing games on my poor Xbox struggling with space! Have not had any problems with sequencing or freezing during game play. Downloads games quickly and it's a breeze to move games around from backup storage to main storage. The only feature I found annoying, is when I turn my Xbox off the hard drive continues to stay on and do it's rainbow light show. If you're trying to watch a movie in the dark, it gets old real fast.

I've tried some other external M.2 drive readers and housings, but they don't always detect, or they have fans, or they're not as fast etc etc... the P40 has just been the best one in my selection

I have installed all games I have in this drive specially my favorite genshin impact, valkyrie chronicles, Nier Automata, and other steam games that are space extensive.

Inital game load: For comparison genshin initial load usually takes less than 15 to 30secs while for P40 it took more than a minute.

Gaming experience: So Far I didn’t have issues on my gaming perfomance as there no lag or stagger. except for that initial booth up or open a game, but as you play along everything will feel normal and faster maybe after caching. Like if you try to exit the game and load it up again it will just take normal load time. like how it is while using internal ssd.

Copy and Paste of Files: due to its high read and write copying a 100gb worth of file only took less than 5mins where in if I did the same on my other ssd it takes lot ~twice of it.

Temperature: After more than 7hrs of gaming of Nier and Genshin Impact, both using highest settings. Meaning there will be lots of reads and write that will happen but still i didn’t observe increase in its temperature based from touch and WD Dashboard.

Design: It is very sleak!

Just to note I have connected it to my laptop-lenovo legion w/ryzen processor

El producto llegó rapido desde EEUU, es muy pequeño en tamaño, mucho mejor que SSD tradiconal. Obviamente no hace ruido, ya que no tiene partes mecanicas, lo estoy usando para el PS5, y pongo juegos del PS4 ya que estos juegos puedes jugar directamente de este SSD. Velocidad muy bien para jugar los juegos PS4 por este SSD en PS5. Muy contento con el producto.

P.D. los efectos de luces son padres, pero no es necesario, y el producto viene con adaptador USB-C a USB-A ya que se tiene que conectar por USB por la parte atras del PS5 para poder funcionar. El cable es suficientemente largo para que el SSD puedes tenerlo al lado del PS5.

La qualité western digital est au rdv. Il est compact, ne chauffe pas et la vitesse d'écriture est hallucinante.

Je recommande et pense en racheter un bientôt.
