Aston Villa man limps out of international fixture with injury concern ahead of Everton clash

The first international break of the season has come to an end with Aston Villa players set to return to club training ahead of Saturday’s Premier League contest with Everton.

It is also less than a week until Villa are in Champions League action as they travel to Young Boys on Tuesday night. However, Unai Emery may have been dealt a blow ahead of the games after key defender Enzri Konsa was forced off with an injury during England’s victory over Finland in the Nations League on Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old went down early in the second half as Harry Maguire and Levi Colwill warmed up to replace him but he managed to continue for another few minutes before going down and receiving treatment for a second time. He appeared to hold his leg as he left the pitch after 61 minutes to be replaced by Colwill. Interim boss Lee Carsley provided a hopeful update after the game, stating: "Yes, I think he is [OK]. I've not had a chance to see him because I've been speaking to the press, but he looked OK when I saw him."

Villa’s schedule is a busy one on their return to action with their fixtures against Everton and Young Boys followed by the Midlands derby with Wolves on Saturday, September 21. Emery will hope Konsa’s withdrawal against Finland was precautionary, with the defender having played every minute of Villa’s campaign so far. Tyrone Mings has been out injured and is not expected to be back in the near future.

Konsa played 57 times for club and country last term, with 50 of those appearances coming in a Villa shirt as they finished fourth in the Premier League and clinched a Champions League spot. Konsa was not given much to do as England beat Finland 2-0 at Wembley, with both goals coming from Harry Kane as he earned his 100th cap. The visitors had just 22 per cent possession and managed only two shots, neither of which hit the target, as England made it back-to-back 2-0 wins in the Nations League.
