The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 will be conducted in February 2027 for candidates seeking admission to postgraduate and doctoral programs in engineering and related fields. IIT Madras is the Organizing Institute for GATE 2027.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2027
Candidates currently studying in the third year or higher of an eligible undergraduate degree programme, or those who have already completed an eligible degree programme, can appear for GATE 2027. The eligibility criteria cover programmes in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities.
- No age limit for appearing in GATE 2027.
- Candidates can appear for GATE any number of times.
- Candidates pursuing or holding higher degrees are also eligible, subject to the applicable criteria.

Exam Pattern for GATE 2027 CS
- Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)

Marks Distribution (CS paper):
- General Aptitude: 15 marks

Question Types:
- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): One correct option out of four
- Multiple Select Questions (MSQ): One or more correct options
- Numerical Answer Type (NAT): Numerical answer entered using the virtual keypad
Marking Scheme:
- Questions carry 1 or 2 marks each.
- 1-mark MCQ: 1/3 mark deducted for an incorrect answer.
- 2-mark MCQ: 2/3 mark deducted for an incorrect answer.
- No negative marking for MSQs or NATs.
- No partial marking for any question.
A candidate can appear for one or two test papers, subject to the permitted combinations. An on-screen virtual calculator is provided; physical calculators are not allowed.
Preparation Tips for GATE 2027 CS
- Understand the Official Syllabus Thoroughly: Follow the GATE 2027 syllabus and focus on the topics prescribed for the CS paper.
- Build Strong Fundamentals: Use standard textbooks and reliable study resources to strengthen your concepts.
- Prioritize Important Subjects: Give adequate time to core subjects such as Algorithms, Data Structures, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Theory of Computation, DBMS, and Engineering Mathematics.
- Practice Previous Year Questions: Solve GATE previous-year questions topic-wise and as full-length papers. Analyze your mistakes and improve accordingly.
- Take Mock Tests Regularly: Start with sectional tests and gradually move to full-length mock tests to improve accuracy and time management.
- Practice MCQs, MSQs and NATs: Understand the different question formats and practice each type regularly.
- Prepare General Aptitude: Dedicate consistent time to General Aptitude, which carries 15 marks in the GATE paper.
- Revise Regularly: Maintain short notes and formula sheets and revise important concepts frequently.
- Practice with the Virtual Calculator: Become familiar with the on-screen virtual calculator before the examination.
