Frequently Asked Questions
How does the OnMed CareStation® work?
The OnMed CareStation® is a patented, 8×10 foot “Clinic-in-a-Box." A patient enters a private, ADA-compliant space and connects in real time with a licensed clinician on a 55-inch life-size display. Integrated diagnostic tools—digital stethoscope, HD camera, thermal imaging, pulse oximetry, blood pressure monitoring, otoscope, and weight scale—allow the clinician to conduct a full clinical-grade evaluation. 86% of patients are fully treated inside the CareStation without redirection to a specialist, urgent care, or emergency room. The CareStation operates on dual broadband and satellite connectivity and deploys in 45 days with no construction required. A typical visit takes about twenty minutes, ends with a diagnosis, an e-prescription, and next steps, and requires no appointment. Find a CareStation near you.
What diagnostic tools are available inside a CareStation?
CareStations include an integrated suite of devices: otoscope, digital stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, thermal image scanner, weight scale, and high-resolution camera. These tools allow clinicians to conduct a comprehensive examination in real time. Read how diagnostic tools unlock real care.
Are all examinations private and how long do you keep my personal data?
Yes, all exams are private. Exams are not recorded, and OnMed follows HIPAA regulations, securely storing personal data for 10 years. Once a visit begins, the door locks and the glass automatically fogs, preventing visibility into the unit.
How long are exams in the CareStation?
A typical CareStation visit takes about 20 minutes and includes vitals, a clinical examination, consultation, diagnosis, and next steps. No appointment is required.
Do I need an appointment to use the CareStation?
No. The OnMed CareStation® is designed for walk-in care, so no appointment is required. If the CareStation is in use, the average wait time is typically 15-20 minutes.
What conditions can OnMed treat?
The CareStation treats everyday conditions such as colds, flu and COVID, pink eye, allergies, bronchitis and asthma, rashes, acid reflux, headaches, back and muscle strains, and medication refills. It also supports management of chronic conditions including hypertension, diabetes, asthma, obesity. Today, clinicians screen for depression and anxiety and connect patients to community resources. In 2027, OnMed will expand mental health care for adults to include mild-to-moderate anxiety and depression, insomnia, grief, burnout and acute stress, perinatal depression, and SSRI/SNRI medication management, with a psychiatric nurse practitioner consulting. How are CareStations cleaned?
CareStations follow CDC cleaning guidelines and feature antimicrobial walls and 24/7 air filtration proven to remove 99.9% of airborne viruses and bacteria. After each visit, the interior is disinfected with UVC light. At employer deployments, the employer’s custodial staff also performs a physical cleaning once a day and as needed.
