EndeavourOS is a rolling-release Linux distribution based on Arch Linux. The project aims to be a spiritual successor to Antergos, providing an easy setup and a pre-configured desktop environment on an Arch base. EndeavourOS offers both off-line and on-line install options. The off-line installer, Calamares, uses the KDE Plasma desktop by default. The on-line installer can install optional software components, including most popular desktop environments.

Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Absolutely great.

Been distrohopping for a few years now, mainly been with Pop and Cachy using the Cosmic DE.
Made the decision to stay with GNOME as my DE till Cosmic reaches a later Epoch, hopefully with Night Light included.

Anyways - while Cachy was great on my HP EliteBook it also felt a bit bloated. And since this laptop was mainly meant to be for coding, programming and general daily use, all the gaming tweaks felt unnecessary.
I never tried EOS in my years of distrohopping, mainly because it seemed like Cachy would just be superior.

But i can safely say now that after a few weeks of running EOS, i actually understand what it's all about.
Arch has always been the fastest and lightest imo, and this is where Endeavour comes in play - simple and easy to understand installer with some sane defaults ootb.

Pros:
No bloat and plethora of apps that do the same thing
Great installer
Lightweight and fast (even with GNOME, which is a bit heavier in general)
Great support and community

Cons:
Bluetooth takes tinkering to get working for reasons i don't know (not a Linux sweat hehe)
No GUI for software and updates by default (i installed Bazaar and it's great)
Welcome window feels a bit dated, not that newbie-friendly and explanatory (but get's the job done)

I'm still waiting for the 10/10 distro to come by, but this is basically as close as it gets.
Would easily recommend to noobs as well as seasoned Linux-vets and sweats.

It's simple, fast and well-thought.

Big up EOS!

Endeavour's secret is being a friendlier, accessible, and aesthetic Arch. It follows all of Arch's principles. It's Forums have the friendliest people with the fastest response I ever seen.

Been on EOS daily for three years.

I've run their X11 flavours, their Waylands, their WM's. What they have in common is they are beautiful and stable.

Dedicated staff. Sometimes several updates a day.

I'm a nouveau driver guy, I don't use Nvidia. Graphics have always been hassle-free.

It's a high-reaching OS, very proud, and very secure.

One of the best installers I ever used. Online installation a plus.

I've never crashed it and I'm clumsy when it comes to OS's.

The DE's are sensibly pre-configured ootb. A firewall is in place and activated on install.

No matter what you hear, having access to the AUR is magnificent.

I gave it a 9 for these reasons:

--yay/pacman is not a brisk updater but fun to watch
--Arch expects a lot from its users as far as maintenance and knowing The Manual.
--the space themes are beginning to grate but easy to change

I love the way EOS does things and will stay with this daily. It keeps me happy.

Got a Raspberry Pi 500 on my cottage. And although the default RP OS is just excellent for everyday usage, I wanted to try something else, something more modern and better looking in a desktoppy kind of way. Through the years I have collected a whole bunch of harddisks from upgrading and converting from older to newer PCs. Bought a IcyBox 2.5 inch external USB harddisk/SSD enclosure and put in a 250G HD from 2009.

Searched the DistroWatch and Distro-finder sites for Linux that could be installed on a RB PI. A whole bunch actually, but when looking more closely, most of them probably would run on a RB Pi just fine, but with a whole bunch of ifs and buts. EndeavourOS (EOS) had none of those. I had tried EOS earlier on my ordinary PC, so I knew a bit about it.

The installation was, well - interesting (nothing like the PC version, or perhaps like a net install? don't know), but essentially straight forward. No manuals required. Within a few minutes I had EOS with KDE Plasma on my Pi on my USB HDD from 2009 living inside my Icy Box.

What can I say? It's fast, snappy, stable, everything works. Had it for over a month now, and not a single issue. In fact, it's a better experience on my tiny little Pi than some of the other distros on a large and powerful desktop machine. Code and some compilers, no problems whatsoever.

yay works like a charm, but to find apps you have to open the welcome app, which sends you to a browser where you can search. A bit of a process, but it works just fine. A simpler method is to just ask an AI (you have to open the browser anyway).

Couldn't be more pleased actually. An SSD would of course speed things up, but it's actually nothing to complain about using that HDD either, seriously. (If this is due to the Pi being remarkably fast with older HDDs or EOS, I don't know).

A clear 10 from me.
