Yes No Version: 3.0-rc2 Rating: 9 Date: 2026-08-30 Country: United States Votes: 2 Reviving a 2008 Dell laptop with 4 GB of RAM and an SSD used to be a frustrating exercise in compromise, but Kumander Linux makes it genuinely practical. Instead of sitting in a drawer, this machine now handles daily web browsing and word processing smoothly and reliably. Comparing it to Zorin OS highlights the difference. While Zorin is visually appealing, it often felt heavy and sluggish on this older hardware. Kumander runs much faster and stays out of the way. Because it is built on Debian, the system is stable and predictable, which gives peace of mind when working on older equipment. Customizing the desktop is straightforward. The layout adjustments and theme options make it easy to set up a clean, comfortable workspace without getting bogged down in complex settings. The out-of-the-box Flatpak support is also a strong practical benefit. It bridges the gap between older system repositories and modern applications, letting me install updated software easily without breaking the underlying OS. It earns a solid **9 out of 10**. Yes No Version: 2.1 Rating: 9 Date: 2025-06-16 Votes: 5 I am new to the LINUX world, after being an M$ user since 3.1, but recent developments in that space force me to look for an alternative. I love the 'familiar', albeit the somewhat outdated UI ; it feels like home. I run it on a fairly low-spec older generation HP laptop, and installation was rather painless, except that the first attempt failed due to SecureBoot active in the BIOS. Once SecureBoot was disabled, absolutely no problem. I am a photographer and am looking forward to hopefully fully migrate to RAWTHERAPEE in lieu of ADOBE PS and LR, and will likely use KDenLive in lieu of PowerDirector.When necessary, I will use TERMINAL, but I hope not too much... I have failed installing the software for my QNAP NAS, but likely due to not really knowing what to do rather than a fault in the software (I hope...) I will seek 'professional' help in this regard. I do however at this stage see it as complementary to my WIN/11 desktop and laptop. I would strongly recommend KUMANDER for 'novice' users with basic computing needs.
