omarchy-4.0.0-hyprland (more screenshots in our gallery)
Omarchy is an Arch-based Linux distribution featuring the Hyprland tiling window manager. It ships with what a modern software developer would need to be productive immediately, including Neovim, Spotify, Chromium, Typora, Alacritty, LibreOffice and Zoom. The distribution boots into a text-mode system installer that downloads the latest packages from the Arch Linux repositories during installation to build a complete Hyprland desktop.

Popularity (hits per day): 12 months: 21 (476), 6 months: 19 (501), 3 months: 16 (474), 4 weeks: 12 (638), 1 week: 15 (692)

Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Trying this out on a HP 6 G1a Ryzen 5 230 and I’m really liking the experience. Feels very different to Windows and macOS but once you’ve mastered a few shortcuts familiar in some ways too. I’m used to (work)spaces on macOS and love how these work although still try to swipe up with the trackpad to switch between them - perhaps I can find a way to replicate that? Love that AI does feel more integrated although that might just be it encourages more use of the terminal? Happy I wiped the latest Ubuntu 26.04 it was running previously.

This is my favorite Linux distribution by quite a margin. The keyboard-driven operation is fast and easy to get used to. I love how the themes are integrated with all of the applications. It's an absolutely beautiful distribution. very easy to configure, especially if you have an LLM helping you out. Since version four, all of my complaints about usability are gone. Excellent work. Installation is easy and very fast. Installing PWAs is smooth. Voice to text is easy to set up. I'm super excited about copying text from a screenshot with OCR, which is hooked up to a keyboard binding (easier to use than on Mac OS, last time I checked). An absolute pleasure to use day to day.

Made my 2020 MacBook Pro (Intel with T2 chip) feel new again! Even better on Linux friendly hardware of course.

With the addition of T2 Linux 7.1, all of my nagging hardware glitches on Mac melted away. I can close the laptop, enter suspend, open it, and be back to work in an instant. If that doesn’t impress you, you haven’t tried running Linux on a MacBook before.

Final word on the Omarchy MacBook is Linux looks and feels at home on this laptop. Premium modern experience on older premium hardware.

This arch spin is a developer’s dream. Optimized for productivity out of the box. Intuitive enough that my kids figured out how to use my dev rig for gaming when I’m not working. I look forward to every update, which I haven’t gotten to say about any software for a long time.

Omarchy 4 is a huge step up in polish from previous releases. The little affordances like audio, monitors, battery level, etc… all look unified like they belong together.
