  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Just fantastic, I wish it had more coverage on distrowatch. I had to find it myself after seeing a YouTube video. I had no idea that they updated it. Looking forward to using it and working with the AI tools. It's nice to have Debian as a daily driver with all the goodies baked in. I would say give it a try. The start up is very simple to set up and gives you many options. I don't regret trying it at all. Just wish more people knew about this distro and reported on it. We need to support these smaller disto's and not let them fall to the wayside to make way for the ones that fill the pockets of these review sites.

# Shadowfetch Linux Review

Shadowfetch Linux has a strong concept: combine KDE Plasma, local AI, creative tools, Ollama, and agent frameworks into one desktop. The interface is polished, the onboarding is well organized, and the system has real potential as a local AI workstation.

However, it was not ready to use out of the box on my hardware.

My RTX 5080 was detected, but Shadowfetch booted with the `nouveau` driver instead of a working NVIDIA driver. `nvidia-smi` was unavailable, and I had to manually add NVIDIA’s repository, install the 610 open-kernel driver, build the DKMS modules, and verify the GPU configuration.

The AI setup also required more work than expected. I had to install and configure Ollama, download local models, connect OpenClaw, fix the shell `PATH`, change the default model, and correct the active session configuration. The built-in Shadowfetch Assistant worked as a local chat interface, but it could not directly inspect or control the computer.

Once everything was configured, the system worked well. Ollama ran locally, Phi-4 used the RTX 5080, OpenClaw connected successfully, and KDE remained responsive.

My overall impression is that Shadowfetch is **AI-ready, but not turnkey**. It is best suited for experienced Linux users, local AI enthusiasts, and early adopters who are comfortable troubleshooting drivers and configuration issues. Beginners expecting a fully working AI desktop immediately after installation may find it frustrating.

**Overall rating: 8/10**

Correction: latest version is actually 2.1.1 (not 2.1.0)
I've been waiting a long time for a distro like this.Solid Debian base with KDE and nicely polished. Looks and feels great.
All creative tools preinstalled so everything ready out of the box whether you wanna mess with audio, video, graphics or photos. Local AI implementation is a great bonus as well as strict default privacy settings.
Distro has almost everything I'd do or install on a fresh vanilla Debian (maybe only thing that's missing is Wine), so it's a perfect choice and saves a lot of time when setting up on a fresh PC.
This will be my go-to distro to use and carry around on usb stick
