Facelinidae Explained

The Facelinidae is a family of aeolid nudibranchs. They are marine gastropod molluscs.^[1]

Taxonomy

According to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005, this family contains the following subfamilies:

• Facelininae Bergh, 1889 - synonyms: Caloriidae Odhner, 1968; Phidianidae Odhner, 1968; Pruvotfoliinae Tardy, 1970
• Babakininae Roller, 1973^[2] - synonym: Babainidae Roller, 1972 (inv.)^[3]
• Crateninae Bergh, 1889^[4] - synonym: Rizzoliinae Odhner, 1939 (inv.)
• Favorininae Bergh, 1889^[5] - synonyms: Myrrhinidae Bergh, 1905; Phyllodesmiinae Thiele, 1931; Facalaninae Er. Marcus, 1958^[6]
• Herviellinae Burn, 1967^[7]
• Pteraeolidiinae Risbec, 1953^[8]

In 2007, Gosliner and colleagues elevated the subfamily Babakininae to family Babakinidae.^[9]

According to Korshunova and colleagues (2025), the following genera are recognised in the family Aeolidiidae:^[10]
