Named in honor of Della M. Roy (3 November 1926, Merrill, Oregon, USA - 27 March 2021, Pennsylvania, USA), Professor at Pennsylvania State University, USA, materials scientist and concrete expert who synthesized the mineral. Rustumite is named after her husband, Rustum Roy, also a PSU professor.
