"If he's still in there he ain't happy!"

Tonight's antics can only be expressed in a modified version of Earnest Lawrence Thayer's Casey at the Bat; fitting because the yard is commonly used as a baseball diamond.

Tonight my gaze was drawn to the Scukanec whiffle park:
Where I noticed a small pitcher's mound while it was getting dark.
When I looked out the window (once broken by a ball),
What I thought was a pitcher's mound wasn't for pitching at all.
For underneath that mound of soil, there was an evil rodent.
John laughed and said with evil eyes, "This calls for something potent!"
He then emerged from the garage looking very calm.
A gasp came from the nervous crowd when they saw the Rodent Bomb.There was ease in ol' John's manner as he headed for the mound;
There was pride in ol' John's bearing and a he smiled at the crowd.
And when, responding to the cheers, he pointed to his shirt,
No stranger in the crowd could doubt he was headed for that dirt.
The sneer was gone from ol' John's lip as he kicked away the mound;
He pounded with cruel violence his trowel upon the ground.
Wasting no time, he lit the fuse and put it in the hole.
That's when a thought went through my head I'm glad I'm not a mole.....

Bark Dust

Dave might have ordered a smidge too much bark dust, but we had a reason to be extra neighborly by giving away our excess, which in turn made our lawn look even better. Hopefully it will be a few years before the next bark dust order.

Mt. Rainier

Dave and I took a quick trip up to Mount Rainier to attend a commitment ceremony for Dave's fellow teacher. His friend picked a gorgeous location and the weather was perfect. There was more snow than we expected, but we really enjoyed the trip. We stayed in the historic Paradise Inn in a hobbit sized room. I really liked the rustic atmosphere of the Inn. I wish we had taken more photos, but you can click on the link to see more.
