New Teaser Poster Image!

Put together some in-progress renders to create this flyer to hand out at Siggraph. Environment is still a work-in-progress, but I'm relatively happy with how the lighting is turning out so far.

The story is about a guy who gets a really annoying automated message system on the phone at the worst possible time- when he's about to jump off a bridge. I'm going for a snappy, fun style of animation, which I'm still figuring out at the moment, but definitely a good challenge.

Hoping to have at least a partial 3D animatic up here on the blog soon to show how the film is coming along, so check back for that in the coming weeks!

First-pass lighting

Just to get a feel of what the environment might look like. Still no textures, and I plan to replace the rocks/hills/whatever those are as soon as I come up with something brilliant to replace them with. :)

In-Progress Characters and environments

So here are a few images of what I've been working on for the new short. Not so happy with how the background hills/rocks are turning out so far in the environment one, and the character could be posed better, but again, these are works in progress :)

papercraft concept art

I used to make unplanned papercraft when I was little, so I decided to try something along those lines to get some new ideas for background designs on the new short I'm working on. This was really fun to do, and went totally against the way I work on most projects now since I usually like to plan things really thoroughly. It was fun to just start making something out of paper without really knowing where it was going.

Final(ish) version of new test!

Because I have to declare it done at some point, or I'll just keep considering it a work in progress till I'm happy with it, which knowing me is probably never. :)

I'd love feedback if anyone would like to leave any, though.

*edit* Crap, what's going on with Blogger and embedded youtube videos today? Here's a link if it's not playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-BN8kEyYkI

Another animation test!

I got some feedback on the test I was working on and decided it was a little too similar to a lot of what I already have on my reel (fast-paced and energetic) so I started another one that's less crazy and more acting focused. It was initially supposed to have 2 characters, but later I decided to eliminate the second character because it was more fun to tell the whole story through the one character's reaction.

It's not quite finished yet, I plan to work on the hands, fingers and face some more, and then do a final polishing pass overall. Would love to get some feedback and see what people think!

New Animation Test- Blocking phase

I decided to do another animation test to add to my reel, because my current reel is lacking in full-body acting shots and multiple character shots, so I'm hoping to add this one. It's still in a somewhat rough blocking phase which I plan to refine further, but figured I'd show it now, because this is the best time for *BIG* changes to be made if necessary.

New Demo Reel

...with my stuff from Ice Age 3 added. Was going to do another test, but haven't finished it yet, as I'm also trying to start my own company at the same time. So, anyway, enjoy! If anyone knows of any available work out there, please let me know!

Oh, and reel breakdown is here: http://www.bevincarnes.com/reel.htm

Maori Owls

No real reason for these- just felt like painting something :)
Not sure which version I like better.

Figure Drawings- finally got around to scanning some

Short Gestures (30sec.- 2min.):Longer poses (5-15min.):

This next one was an hour pose- I always get them too stiff when I have that long, I think:
