Bryan and I went to the "Savior of the World" play that the LDS church does each year at the Conference Center Theater just last week. We had a hectic time getting there. Bryan and I were both a little "air-heady" that night. Bryan reminded me all day that I need to bring the tickets so I left them in my car just to be safe. I met him at his office since the play was just an hour or so after he gets off and we went to dinner at Macaroni Grill. We rounded the street three or four times before we could find parking, but made it in and finished eating with just enough time to find parking at the conference center and go to the play. Before dinner I decided to put the tickets in an outside pouch of my purse for safe-keeping, but it turns out it wasn't very safe. We parked close to the conference center and started toward the theatre only to find out that our tickets had fallen out some where along the way that night. After searching the car thoroughly we decided to try going in and seeing if they could just look up our tickets online. And they did. The conference center saved the night!
After all the hassle of the evening, I was a little bit flustered when we finally settled into our seats but my mood didn't last for long as the play started. It is such an amazing story about the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The first act focuses on all the signs and events leading up to the Savior's birth. The second act then focuses on the apostles and all the people who saw Jesus as a resurrected being. It was very touching and put things back into a proper perspective.
It is easy to get caught up in the fun of Christmas time: buying presents, making treats, decorating our homes, and listening to Christmas music. I noticed yesterday while listening to a Christmas radio station that only one out of ten songs discussed the birth of Jesus Christ. While I do love "having a holly jolly Christmas" and realizing that it's "the most wonderful time of the year," it just seems like each year the focus is less and less on Jesus Christ's birth. This play was such an amazing reminder of the miracle of Christ's birth, His mission, and His resurrection. I am so glad we went to it despite all the struggles along our way.
I realized then that I want to work on my personal testimony of the Savior and I want to help spread the message of His mission on earth. Just as all the people looked forward to his birth back then, I look forward to His coming again to the earth. I am grateful for Jesus Christ and know that He truly is the Savior of the World.
Merry Christmas and know that you are loved!

Thoughts
--I was sitting in church with the Bryners yesterday and noticed our little girl kicking my stomach enough to actually move it. I've felt her the last few weeks doing acrobatics but it's always been subtle. We were in Sunday School and she kept kicking me in the same spot. I had Bryan put his hand on the spot and she kicked him. It's been fun to feel her move around because it makes it more real for me. I am excited Bryan felt her finally so he can be more included in the growth of our little girl. Fun times.
--I am starting to understand why pregnancy is 9 months long. I know both Bryan and I need the time to prepare our lives to share with another little life. If she were to come today she would only have a crib to sleep in, about four or five blankets to rotate through, and one onesie to wear that is for 3-6 months. Needless to say, we have some physical preparations to do.
--I think it also is a very spiritually refining process, for me especially. It is humbling for me to sacrifice my body and comforts in order to make a life. It is humbling to even be capable of doing such a miraculous task. I already worry about our little girl and try to do everything in my capacity to keep her healthy and growing. I know when she comes to us this anxiety for her well-being will just increase ten fold. I also feel a strong desire to be the best I can so that I can be a good mother to my baby. It has only been about 23 weeks now, but I can feel the refining power of motherhood working to soften me. I am so grateful for the blessing of this child.
--I also think that I'm in the "golden era" of pregnancy. I feel great, rarely take naps, am not gaining too much weight, exercising regularly, and keeping up with my school and home work. It has been such a fun time for me the last few months as I am big enough to look pregnant, but not big enough to feel uncomfortable. I am enjoying it.
--It's also been fun being with Bryan and sharing in the joy of this baby girl. We throw names at each other all the time, have trial runs with strollers, put together the crib, and make all the little decisions together. Bryan is the best and I think more and more that we really work great together. He's my top favorite person.

A Little Girl!
Yes, we're having a girl!! It's funny because I said all along that I didn't know whether it was a boy or girl, but when we were in having the ultrasound and the doctor announced, "Girl!", I was thinking, "are you sure?" I must have had it in my subconscious that it was a boy. But, I am super excited for a girl! We now outnumber the boys in the family on the Jones side and we're making up for a lack of girls on the Bryner side. I told Bryan all along that I would do better with a girl first since I know how to handle girls: playing dress up, house, princesses, singing, dancing, and doing makeup. I will have some learning to do when we have our first boy :).
This ultrasound couldn't have come on a more perfect day. I have an advanced Critical Theory class for English that met right before we went in to find out. This class has been such a difficult one for me to stomach because we study crazy philosophies and my teacher makes it abundantly clear that she hates religion and the LDS church in particular. Our discussion this day was about Gender and whether it is something given (that we're born with/biological) or something constructed (by social and cultural forces). This teacher completely attacked the basis that our identity/gender is something that is born within us. She said that when a baby is born it does not know whether to be male or female instinctively, but that just through our social/cultural construction we become who we are and find out how to act feminine or masculine.
The discussion really hit me today as completely false. The whole time the class argued about gender I couldn't help but remember "The Family: a Proclamation to the World" and the truths we learn in it. It states specifically:
After seeing our little girl, I thought, "How could anyone question whether this child has a distinct identity and personality?" I just don't understand how our world is so confused on such foundational principles, to the point that they believe that gender is completely constructed. It was such a testimony to me that there IS a plan and we DO have individual identities that were formed before we even came to earth.
On a lighter note, we learned a little about our little girl in the ultrasound: She does NOT like to be photographed. The ultrasound included some 3-D images and every time the doctor flipped to 3D to take a photo the kid had her back turned to us. We have two great pictures of the back of her head and body. Bryan said that this was definitely a Bryner trait to not want to be in pictures!
We're excited for our little girl and all of the fun preparations we get to make in the next 5 months! We have three little girls coming this year: my sister Rhiannon is having a girl in December (or Nov, most likely), Lisa is having a girl in Feb (my step-sister in-law), and our girl will be here officially March 29th. It's an exciting time in our family!
PS. I took some pictures to show (mostly family) my progress as a pregnant woman. I am now at 18 weeks (or to put it in regular terms, about 4 and 1/2 months) and feeling great! I also added some pictures of Bryan at 18 weeks to show his progress :)

Strange Symptoms
I read up a lot on pregnancy before we decided to sign up for this and I even continue to read all the sources I can on the symptoms of pregnancy. Some of them I came to expect, but nothing prepared me for the full joy of pregnancy!
Some strange symptoms I've been having:
1. Putting two different kinds of chewing gum in a sealed plastic bag and then into my backpack. I can't stand the strong smell in my bag and I have to have two different kinds of gum in order to outsmart my nausea.
2. Going to buy pregnancy pants and wanting to cry when I walked into a maternity clothes store, but upon trying out the pants, thinking "these are actually pretty comfy." Goodbye to my pretty figure.
3. Asking advice from the sweet old lady working in the bra dept about what will give the best support. She gives me the suggestion of some bras she really likes and I try them on. So, now I'm in stretchy pants and grandma bras. Some one save me!
4. I can't remember the last time I ate the following foods: Lime Jello, cottage cheese, pickles, and mac & cheese. But now, I crave them almost daily. I eat a pickle a day and I'm not sure that's as good for keeping the doctor away.
5. Reading one of the novels for my class and seeing the word "ranch" four or five times in a paragraph doesn't make me think of cowboys and wide open land but translates in my pregnant mind to Ranch dressing (and dipping roasted potatoes and carrots in it). I'm thinking Hidden Valley!!

6. Having the skin problems of a teenage kid (and even when I was a teenager my skin wasn't that bad) and looking somewhat tanner although I haven't been out in the sun.
7. Needing a nap on a daily basis (almost on a schedule) like my nephew and nieces.

8. Using the bathroom three to four times a night on average and almost hourly during the day. Normally, I would be following the advice for the overactive bladder commercials, but no, it's just junior!
9. Nausea, nausea, nausea. It never sleeps. It is there when I wake up in the morning, greets me during breakfast, accompanies me on my drives to school, keeps me snacking all through my classes, fills me up after lunch, wakes up with me after a good nap, and even decides to make the evenings more intolerable. It knows all my tricks and has kept me going to the pantry to try new and different snacks. What works one week will make me sick the next week. And it just increases. I'm still waiting for that "golden" phase of the 2nd trimester. If I can get over this nausea I can handle anything :).
10. Working out on a good scheduled basis but stepping on the scale each time and realizing that the number keeps going up slightly. That's not the way it's supposed to work!
Ah, the joys of pregnancy that no one tells you until you're 12 weeks deep into it! (For good reason) I learn something new about my body each week and try to adapt to the rapid changes. Baby and I seem to be on different teams right now. I think we'll have to talk and get on the same page!

Our First Anniversary
Bryan and I celebrated our first anniversary on August 30th. It's crazy to think that a full year has past since we were married. It seems like just yesterday that we started dating and even shorter since we were engaged and married.
It's been fun to look back on our wedding and engagement, to remember our temple marriage, and to think about how we felt about each other then. I feel like I know ten times more about Bryan now than I did then. I can see why people say it is a leap of faith to get married. We only knew each other on one level and now we know each other on so many other levels. I can say I am so happy with where we are a year later. I feel like we've grown so much closer and have developed a great love for each other. There are so many memories just from this one year and I know it will just continue to get better. I love Bryan so much and am excited for the years to come! I know we made the right decision to be together and everything this year has just confirmed that choice for me.
The first year is a lot of adjustments: living with a boy for the first time, putting two people's things into one place (me with all my decorations and Bryan with all his tools, camping gear, and sports stuff), and learning how to budget and care for one household. We've worked together through all the big and little stuff and come up with a way of life that works great for us. It's fun to have Bryan around all the time too. I'm with my best friend every day. Year one has been great!
We went to St. George for our anniversary weekend. We hiked in Zion National Park, went to see the musical "Aida" at Tuacahn outdoor theatre, swam, and just enjoyed the weekend together. Here are some pictures of our trip!
One year down, only an eternity to go :)!! I'm excited for it all! Life just keeps getting better!

Anita and Brian's Wedding
Anita and Brian were married this past Saturday (the 22nd) in the Mount Timpanogas temple. Both of their families were able to come out from GA and CA. They are, for the most part, not members of the LDS religion. It was so fun to meet them all. Brian is awesome! Anita looked beautiful and so happy.
It was fun to go to a sealing right around our first anniversary. It brought back a lot of the same feelings I had last year during our wedding and reception. I feel like Bryan and I have come so far and know so much more about each other than we did on our wedding day! Life just keeps getting better.
We are so happy for Brian and Anita McDonald!! Here are some highlights:

Almost There...
Seven tests, eight papers, five novels, two plays, four major projects, various other chapter readings, and homework assignments due daily. This has been my life the last seven weeks or so. I feel some times like this:
And this:
Finals are next Friday. I have two papers, two major projects and two tests coming up in the next two weeks. Summer semesters are brutal, I've discovered. They don't count the fact that it is 90 degrees, sunny, and beautiful all the time. They don't seem to think that we want to do anything else but study all day every day, and especially on the weekends. It hasn't helped that Bryan and I still want to enjoy our summer and visit family so I've had to take my homework down to Price, New Mexico, and California on our vacations. Some how I've survived. This is the first semester I really feel like I've been barely keeping my head above water.

California Dreamin'

We took a quick trip to California over the 24th of July weekend (one of two three day weekends both Bry and I have had this summer!) to visit my brother Brett and sister-in-law Melissa and their adorable family, Tavin (is 2 now) and Kirra (about to be 1 Aug 12th). They were so much fun to be with. I haven't seen little Kirra since she was 3 months old. We spent a couple days at the beaches, Newport Beach and San Clemente. We went to an Angels game and Bryan was in heaven. They played the Twins and won 6-2. We saw three Angels hit home runs and two Twins hit home runs. 5 home runs in one game, not too shabby!
Tavin and Kirra are so fun to play with! Kirra was all smiles when we got to the beach. She crawls around like Mogely from "The Jungle Book" with her hands and feet touching the ground only. She does not want to get her knees roughed up so she has a funny crawl when she gets to the sand :). Tavin works the whole time at the beach. He is either building a sandcastle (or destroying one), digging for sand crabs, torturing sand crabs, running to the water and away from it when the waves come on shore, and playing with us. He is a funny kid!! He kept us laughing all weekend. Kirra is a sweetheart. We really enjoyed our quick weekend trip to CA. It is always great to see family! Brett and Melissa are the best!
Tavin doesn't usually like to cooperate for picture taking so this is one of my better shots of him :)
Kirra, all smiles in the sand and even has sand around her mouth. She loves to eat it!
I should have taken a picture of her Mogely walk. She was only on her knees for a quick break and then she'd be up on her feet and hands again.
Tavin had a better tan than both Bryan and me. We were the Utah whities at the beach :)
This picture doesn't do the waves justice. A hurricane was off the coast of CA that weekend and the waves were 8-11 feet. There were a lot of surfers trying out the huge storm waves.
Kirra and Tavin both love the water. They always stay in the shallow part. Usually Tavin runs away from it as it comes in :)
I love this picture! She loved to dip her sand-covered rake into the bucket filled with ocean water and then taste it. She did this about twenty times in a row, smiling the whole time.
Outside Angels stadium. Bryan was excited to see his Angels play!
The field.
Brett never smiles normally for pictures. He and Melissa came with us to the game. It was a lot of fun! They even had a big fireworks show afterward.Jul 21, 2009
Fourth of July in New Mexico!!
Bryan and I went down to see my family in New Mexico for the 4th of July. The trip was way too quick!! It seems like we just get down there and it's time to leave. Brandon and Chase came out for the summer from Florida and it's usually only during the summer I get to see them every year, which makes it even harder to leave.
We packed a lot of activities into the two days we were down there. Bryan and the boys played basketball, my uncles showed us their motor cross track, we all tried out the dirt bikes, we watched Farmington city fireworks and played ultimate Frisbee, we went to the mountains for the day and did a BBQ with the whole family, we four wheeled in trucks up the mountain and played in the stream, we had a July 4th BBQ that night, and did our own fireworks show at the store that night. It was so fun!! I love my family so much and am so glad we were able to see everyone and spend so much time together. I've posted quite a few pictures below. I miss them already!
Brandon and Brinley, my one year old niece. Rhiannon's due in December with her 4th girl! Exciting!
Uncle Mike and my cousin Olivia. He came over from his house with Olivia. She enjoyed the little ride.
Aunt Tina and Cousin Keely-Shae. I love all the gear their family has now! They all look pro. Keely's just 11 and does great on the track.
Here's Chase giving us a great pose! My uncles built a motor cross track on what used to be cattle ranching land. They converted it to a track with all the machinery they have from their business.
Madison and Uncle Cory just back from a quick loop on the track. The kids enjoyed their rides!
We all got the chance to try out the bikes. Both Bryan and I went for rides. My camera died before I could get any pictures of that! :(
4th of July Day in the mountains. We always go to La Plata Canyon in the San Juan Mountains. It is just 15 minutes outside of Durango, CO. The prettiest mountains on earth! Here is my aunt Tina, Alyssa, Lexie, and Keely. We BBQed and had a fun picnic with our whole family. (minus Cindel/Matt and Brett/Melissa, sadly)
Nancy and my Dad with Brinley. Brinley and I were able to become better friends this trip! She was so good all day!
Columbine flowers, the state flower of Colorado. I always find these right around the rivers/streams. It is against the law to pick them though. Pretty!
I took this picture to show the mountains, for the most part. After lunch the family threw Frisbees around for awhile in the meadow.
Bryan and Sophia (I think). Bryan is quite the pro Frisbee thrower!
We went in the trucks up the mountain until we found a place to splash around in the water. Chase and Tyler had cups/pitchers to fill up and drench everyone with water! We all went home a little wet.
Bryan chilling on a log near a waterfall. It was a pretty little creek. The day was perfect for being outside!
We left on Sunday right before church. Here is my dad, Chase, and Brandon. I had a hard time leaving that day!! It went by too quickly!
Bryan and I jumped in the picture just after with my bros and dad.
Brandon, Chase, Dad, Nancy, and me
All in all it was a great trip. I miss my family already! I've posted two videos below. One of my uncles riding around on the track and the other of my dad riding around. Fourth of July was a lot of fun! We love you all!!
