It's the countdown to birthday #2 and Christmas...December will always be a fun time in our house. We are trying to protect it and not let it take us over. Each celebration should be enjoyable, never stressful.
This is the first year I've had to hide presents around the house...it is kind of fun.
Cali just keeps growing and learning. She is almost saying full sentences now. Like "I did it" or "Daddy, home, work" (Daddy left home and went to work) or "cole, mittens, on" (It's cold, I need my mittens on)
Tonight after her bath, she got up on the potty all by herself and went pee pee!!! I was proud of her and she was excited to get an M&M. She has started telling me her toy friends need to go potty and get an M&M - very clever.

Almost 2
Lots of new things for Cali these days - potty training, new class at daycare and a big girl bed! The bed has been an interesting transition. Cali is exploring being able to get out of bed and explore/play/get into things. No longer can we assume that quiet means she is asleep! We are experimenting with having the gate up and how we put her back down multiple times...bedtime is going better than naptime did on Sunday. We'll keep working with her and hopefully she will feel comfortable with her new boundaries and understand she needs to stay in bed. It is fun to be able to kneel down and kiss her good night :)
Cali is putting words together now and talking all the time. We understand her most of the time.
Wun = run
Pi yo = potty
Buzsh = bus (she knows all the motions to wheels on the bus)
go mimmy = here you go, Mommy
chitchen = kitchen (sounds very similar to chicken)
tini = candyjackenaw = jacket

We are planning her birthday party for next month. I can't believe she is going to be 2! She is definitely getting more independent and wants to try things on her own. She also throws fits when she does get what she wants or gets in trouble. She is learning how to manipulate Mommy, but I'm working on not letting this happen and not giving in. I want to be consistent but it is harder than I thought it would be - that cry of hers, whether fake or real, cuts to the heart. (And she knows it)
Cali is very particular about some things. When she takes her shoes off, she always puts her socks inside her shoes and sets them next to each other on the floor. Even when she is being "bad" and takes her shoes off in the car, she is "good" and puts her socks in her shoes. So cute. Cali can turn light switches on and off now so she likes to do it when we are going upstairs to go to bed. Sometimes we ask her to go turn on the light when we are sitting in the living room and it is getting dark. She loves to do it and I think it makes her feel like a big girl :)
Cali is getting better at going potty. She is successful about 1 in 5 times and she loves getting M&M's for it! She even tells Mommy and Daddy they need an M&M when they go potty.
Cali likes to try thing on her own and will fuss at you if you try to help her. It is hard to be extra patient when we need to get going or leave to go somewhere and she is slowly trying to zip her coat or put on her shoes and socks. I almost always let her try and then offer help.

Potty Time
Cali is potty training. She moved up to the 2-yr-old room at daycare on Oct. 25 and they learn how to use the potty so that has been helping her. We were trying it out at home so she would not be afraid of it, but we had not started a regular potty routine yet. We are giving Cali M&M's as a reward for going potty like they give at daycare (Cali calls it "tini" = candy). Monday evening Cali pooped on the potty for the first time! I was so proud of her.

First Haircut
Cali got her first official haircut on Sep. 11. I took her to Cookie Cutters. She did pretty good and they did a good job. She looks so pretty and the hair is out of her eyes now.
Cali adds words to her vocabulary every day. Here are few of my favorites:

Ishe = Ice (she likes to eat crushed ice)

19 month stuff
Cali gave up her pacifier over July 4 weekend...it was a challenge and there were tears and extra comforting at bedtime...but I think she did great! Daycare suggested we take her paci home that weekend so we decided it was time. Now she sleeps better through the night because she isn't waking up looking for it. Although the last week she has been cutting her 2-year molars, so nights have been a little iffy.
Cali does so many funny things lately, especially being chatty but we still don't know what she is saying half the time! But she is getting better about communicating. Many times I catch myself knowing what she is saying even though it's not perfect English. I guess that's part of being a mom :) Cali can do somersaults and is learning how to "jump" (throwing her arms up and falling on the ground) She loves to "sing" songs but she doesn't know the words so she either sings nonsense or words she does know like "da da and "nigh nigh."
Cali loves to be outside recently. Anytime we get home from an errand so says "ou-sigh? ou-sigh?" She loves swinging in our neighbor's swing.
We went house hunting on Saturday and Cali did great. She likes to explore new places so it was a fun experience for her. I wonder what she will think when we move into a new place? She won't remember our current house when she is older...we will tell her about it and she will probably only remember back as far as the next house. That's so weird to think about.
Cali likes dogs and birds but she is all of a sudden afraid of flies. There were a couple in Wendy's tonight and she totally freaked out.
Pooping in the bath - that's a new thing. Why does it only happen with mommy?

Mommy and Cali Evening together
Cali requested music tonight and started shaking her little behind - she was really grooving! It was so cute. She's getting better about eating with a fork - she hardly drops any food and is pretty proud of how she can get the food in her mouth.
She was telling me all sorts of stories this evening but I couldn't make out most of it. I sure wonder what is going through her little head! She requests to brush her teeth when she sees her toothbrush, which I guess is a good thing! With more practice, she will be pretty good at it.
Cali loves taking baths. Every evening when dinner is wrapping up, she rubs her hands on her belly and says "baaaa!!!" She doesn't get one every night yet...but she requests it. She multi-tasked tonight and brushed her teeth in the bath :)
Poor thing has had diarrhea/rashes this week. She also hasn't been sleeping well. I'm afraid her 2-yr-old molars may be coming in...
When Cali sees a bug, she says "uh oh" to let us know we need to get it for her :) I was in the kitchen cleaning up dinner while she finished her milk and she kept saying "uh oh" and pointing to the window. Come to find out there was a spider crawling on it and she was letting me know!
We drew some pictures on Cali's etch-a-sketch tonight. Cali drew some and then Mommy drew some shapes and we practiced saying them. At one point, Cali was carefully making dots to form a line - she was being very careful and deliberate. It was great to watch.

More 18-month stuff
Cali is so good about communicating her needs - she tells us when she is hungry and when it's time for a nap or "night night." How fortunate are we that our daughter tells us when she's ready to go to bed?
Cali learned how to do a somersault today - I helped her learn and it was fun. She already likes to put her head down and look at you through her legs, so I taught her how to roll out of that. She was pretty proud of herself when she did it on her own this evening!
Cali's 18-month check-up went okay last week except for the shots made her leg sore...but she checked out great! Her stats were height 33" weight 26' 4" and she is in the 90th percentile for height! She just keeps growing like a weed! She's in 2T clothes already and I don't think they will last her that long.
Cali started giving nice hugs this week so that is fun. But she is still getting more independent and whines when she doesn't get want she wants. But more emotions are normal...mom and dad just have to learn how to adjust to them :)
