New Orleans

Jared went to New Orleans for a missions trip with the college group from EV Free. He was very sadden by the condition of the areas just outside the city. It is like they have been forgotten and life has gone on everywhere else. It has been over 2 years and there is still standing water in some areas. It is no longer on the news and not living near the area, we are unaffected by the damage. Out of sight, out of mind.

Jared helped to build a home for a single mom. I now have proof, in pictures, that he is more talented than he lets on. I now know who to turn to for my home repairs...LOL

Jared and power tools.....WOW

It wasn't all work and no play. They had a lot of fun too!

Mrs. Mandell,"You have to make Jared...."

Jared had been gone for a few days on a missions trip to build homes in New orleans. He had not texted daily as promised. In fact it had been three days and still no text. Suddenly, I hear Jared's ringtone, Burning ring of fire playing and I answered my phone. Excited to see Jared's named on the screen, I'm expecting to hear, "Hey MA," only to hear a sweet little voice, that did not belong to Jared. It was, Jessie. Her first words were, "Mrs. Mandell, you have to make Jared shave his beard! I can't even look at him! It's gross!" My response was, "I have no control over Jared when he is home! What makes you think I can control him when he is 2,000 miles from home?"

Jared left for New Orleans with a few days growth, as far as a beard goes. He said on his last day of work that he would not shave until he had to go back to work. So if you know Jared, you know that he can have a full beard in about 5 days. I imagined that since it had been over a week sincce he last shaved, he probably was looking a little on the scruffy side and that was what she was protesting. As the conversation continued she told me that he had shaved just the chin section and left the rest of the beard. Apparently, Carl, another vollunteer had shaved his beard in the same fashion and Jared shaved his, in support of Carl. However, Carl is a fair haired, fair skinned young man and it did not look quite as drastic as Jared's dark beard on his fair complextion.

She put Jared on the phone and he told me there was no way he was touching his beard! He would send me a pic, so I could see what all the fuss was about.

So here you go, what a nut, you can almost hear the banjo playing in the background, can't ya....LOL

We finally go to Indiana

I saw it actually snow for the first time in my life

We finally met Bob and Mary, the people we can thank for Aunt Lisa! Not to mention a Christmas they helped save for Jared a few years back, concerning some Power Rangers..LOL

Have I mentioned that we practically starved while we were there....

All Class BOHS Reunion

Diana dragged me to the Brea Olinda High School, all class reunion. Robert, Gary, Diana and I saw several people we knew. Even though Robert did not go to school with us, it is amazing how many people are still around Brea that Robert has met one way or another over the years. We did fun!

Not bad for three broads over 50!

May 2007

Jared and several friends have started a Homeless Ministry.  They cook at our house every Tuesday night and take it to a homeless camp.  This group of young adults are such caring and selfless souls, giving of their hearts and time to help the less fortunate.  It is a pleasure to watch them plan, shop and cook each week.  I pray that the Good Lord will bless them and keep them safe in this ministry.

Jared's 22nd Birthday

Jared's friends wanted to have a party for him here at the house.  What a great bunch of kids!  One of the girls made Jared a very special cake, with his two favorite foods.  Frosting & Bacon!

I'm "50"

I did not want a party. The morning of my birthday my boys rounded up as many of my favorite people as they could and took me to my favorite place to celebrate...The Beach!

Rod BBQ'd Fillet Mignon and everybody brought side dishes. We watched families of dolphins play, looked for shells, flew kites, ate great food, made smores, listened to music, told old stories and laughed about times gone bye.

It was fantastic! I had a great time! The best birthday I can remember! I am so blessed with incredible family and friends!

February 2007

The highlight for this month was my Hysterectomy.  I had to have abdominal surgery, making it the 4th time in my life I've been slit hip to hip.  I went from looking bad to feeling and looking pretty good in 2 weeks, if I do say so myself!

January 2007

We waited until after the holidays to have a graduation party for Jake.  We had 72 people attend. It was cold, so we tarped the patio in and used 4 space heaters to keep it toasty.  I think it was a great success! Lots of family and friends, eating good food and having fun!  How could that be anything other than a success!
