Jared had been gone for a few days on a missions trip to build homes in New orleans. He had not texted daily as promised. In fact it had been three days and still no text. Suddenly, I hear Jared's ringtone, Burning ring of fire playing and I answered my phone. Excited to see Jared's named on the screen, I'm expecting to hear, "Hey MA," only to hear a sweet little voice, that did not belong to Jared. It was, Jessie. Her first words were, "Mrs. Mandell, you have to make Jared shave his beard! I can't even look at him! It's gross!" My response was, "I have no control over Jared when he is home! What makes you think I can control him when he is 2,000 miles from home?"
Jared left for New Orleans with a few days growth, as far as a beard goes. He said on his last day of work that he would not shave until he had to go back to work. So if you know Jared, you know that he can have a full beard in about 5 days. I imagined that since it had been over a week sincce he last shaved, he probably was looking a little on the scruffy side and that was what she was protesting. As the conversation continued she told me that he had shaved just the chin section and left the rest of the beard. Apparently, Carl, another vollunteer had shaved his beard in the same fashion and Jared shaved his, in support of Carl. However, Carl is a fair haired, fair skinned young man and it did not look quite as drastic as Jared's dark beard on his fair complextion.
She put Jared on the phone and he told me there was no way he was touching his beard! He would send me a pic, so I could see what all the fuss was about.
So here you go, what a nut, you can almost hear the banjo playing in the background, can't ya....LOL
