The Prelinger Library in San Francisco, California

I've never heard of the The Prelinger Library before watching the above video found on YouTube. The above video is very short.

Since I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I'd like to visit this library some day.

The Prelinger Library is an independent research library located in San Francisco’s South-of-Market neighborhood. It is open to anyone for research, reading, inspiration, and reuse.

The library is primarily a collection of 19th and 20th century historical ephemera, periodicals, maps, and books, most published in the United States. Much of the collection is image-rich, and in the public domain. The library specializes in material that is not commonly found in other public libraries. Read more about the collection here.

"Library on the Fly" Takes Flight at the Santa Barbara Airport!

 I love seeing Little Free Libraries inside airports! "Library on the Fly" is the perfect name for them too.

I use to live near Santa Barbare for 16 years. I use to love to fly in and out of Santa Barbara as it is a small airport and a very cute airport too.

Iowa's State Capitol Law Library Is So Beautiful!

As a college graduate from the University of Iowa (Iowa City, Iowa), I must admit that Iowa has a special place in my heart. 

I have not visited Iowa's State Capitol Law Library in Des Moines, Iowa, but after watching the above 2 minute video on YouTube, I would love to visit Iowa's State Capitol Law Library some day.

Iowa's State Capitol Law Library is even open to the public!

Trumps' Presidential Library Video Rendering

 

Look, I understand that President Trump was a real estate developer in his former life before becoming POTUS. It also seems plausible that he wants something unique when it comes to his own presidential library that will reflect his past as a real estate developer.

But, I am wondering if any one else sees the similarities between Trump Tower in NYC and the video rendering of the proposed Trump Presidential Library slated to dominate the Miami skyline?

NPR did a write up about the Trump Presidential Library video rendering in an article titled, What to know about Trump's future presidential library, which he says may be a hotel by Rachel Treisman, should you care to learn/read more. So, does this suggest the Trump Presidential Library will be more of a hotel vs. an actual library? Only time will tell, I guess.

‘Outlander’ Author, Diana Gabaldon, Donates literary Archive to Texas A&M

My maternal grandmother was an avid reader like me. We often talked about books we were reading over the years. She turned me onto reading books written by Diana Gabaldon.

Yesterday, I’ve learned that Diana Gabaldon is donating her entire literary archives to Texas A & M in an article titled, ‘Outlander’ author donates literary archive to Texas A&M by Stephen Perez.

In the article, Stephen Perez wrote the following:

The “Outlander” universe, in which a time-traveling British nurse finds adventure and romance with an 18th-century Scottish warrior, is coming to Aggieland.

The best-selling book series author, Dr. Diana Gabaldon, has selected Texas A&M University’s Cushing Memorial Library and Archives as the permanent home for her literary papers, notes and memorabilia from the historical science fiction, adventure-romance series and its hit streaming adaptation.

The collection will capture the evolution of Gabaldon’s storytelling and offer a glimpse into how her 1991 debut novel “Outlander” grew into a global phenomenon spanning novels, companion works and a long-running television adaptation.

“The acquisition of a collection of this magnitude marks a pivotal moment in the growth of our Libraries’ collections,” said Julie Mosbo Ballestro, university librarian and assistant provost. “We have long admired Diana’s contributions to the field, and we are eager to integrate her work into our Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Collection that ranks among the finest in the world.”

Director of Eisenhower Library in Kansas Ousted After Refusing to Give Trump Administration a Sword

I am tired of the Trump Administration's bullying!! It seems like every time you turn around someone is being called out by President Trump for being a bad person and/or fired for no good reason.

Case in point, I recently read an article titled, 'Director of Eisenhower Library in Kansas ousted after refusing to give Trump administration a sword' by Zane Irwin. 

In the article, I learned that Todd Arrington, the "director of the  [Eisenhower] presidential library and museum in Abilene, Kansas, said he was suddenly told to resign or be fired."

I also learned the following information from the above mentioned article:

Todd Arrington’s resignation came shortly after Arrington refused to relinquish one of President Eisenhower’s swords from the museum’s collection. President Trump’s administration wanted to give one of the artifacts as a gift to King Charles III on Trump’s most recent state visit to the United Kingdom.

Arrington said his direct superior informed him on Monday evening that he would be asked to resign. The supervisor, who Arrington declined to name, said he was passing down orders from unknown higher-ups.

All Arrington heard is that he “could no longer be trusted with confidential information” due to conduct related to the sword disagreement.

“I was obviously shocked and saddened and heartbroken,” Arrington said in an interview with the Kansas News Service. “I have almost 30 years of government service. I've never had a bad mark against me.”

The National Archives and Records Administration, which operates presidential libraries like Eisenhower’s, replied to a Kansas News Service inquiry with an automated message that said it was closed due to the U.S. government shutdown that began Wednesday. The White House Press Office sent a similar message.

I feel like I am living in a fascist/authoritarian regime right now when I read articles like the one cited above. How dare Trump request a sword from a presidential library to give as a gift to King Charles III... And then proceed to fire Todd Arrington for not relinquishing the sword to him!!

US Blocks Canadian Library Access Cross-Border to the Haskell Free Library and Opera House and Outrage Erupts!

 

This is such sad regarding the Haskell Free Library and Opera House, which sits on the Canadian and US Vermont Border.  

According to the above video, "outrage erupts as the US blocks Canadian libraries from cross-border access! US officials cite drug trafficking concerns, but a Quebec town claims the move weakens vital international collaboration. Learn more about this escalating US-Canada conflict and its implications."

Marsh's Library is the Oldest Public Library in Dublin, Ireland!

 

Marsh's Library in Dublin, Ireland was founded in 1707 and was the 1st public library in Ireland! Marsh's library has a collection of over 25,000 books, 300 manuscripts, and was founded by Narcissus Marsh. I obtained this information from Wikipedia. Side note, I don't think the library locks patrons/readers inside cages any longer in an effort to prevent them from stealing their rare books. However, it sounds like they did at one time.

Additionally, I discovered that Marsh's Library is situated next to St Patrick's Cathedral. Author, Jonathan Swift, is buried at St. Patrick's Cathedral. So, it may be worthwhile to visit St. Patrick's Cathedral and also Swift's burial site before or after visiting Marsh's Library.

New Little Library Find In San Ramon This Afternoon!!

 

This afternoon, my husband and I did a quick drive out so that we could seek out a new Little Free Library that recently launched in our area. 

We found the above LFL sitting on the homeowner's walkway. I dropped off two books and snagged two books. 

One of the books I took home with me, A Well Behaved Woman by Therese Anne Fowler, had been a wishlist book. I've been lucky enough to find several wishlist books at Little Free Libraries over the years!

Glad we missed the rain while seeking out this LFL. But a storm is brewing and the skies have been cloudy and overcast all day, along with a wind advisory.
