I WANT your opinion...

"After a time, you may find that 'having' is not so pleasing a thing,
after all, as 'wanting'.
It is not logical, but it is often true."

My life...update!

Well, it's actually me writing this post - no jokes, no funny videos, no pictures either. Just me....are you sure you want to keep reading?

I got to quilt this weekend, for about six glorious hours. I finished a baby quilt top, a baby pillow, another tote bag for groovy grocery shopping, and 90% of MY quilt (remember? http://crasmith.blogspot.com/2009/03/if-you-know-me.html) I'm SO looking foward to getting a few quilting projects done so I can take them to the quilter to quilt so I can finish them off and begin using them. Yes, even though it's well on its way to being too hot to use a quilt, I have to at least break them in, right? Plus, our ward is having a visual arts exhibit in September. I've gotta have something to submit in the show!

So, no time for blogging. Sorry.

Also, I got a new calling issued to me from my husband yesterday. Funny story, he was sitting here at the computer, looking at his e-mail. I told him I was going out to clean out the car, and he turned to me and said he needed to "talk to me" for about 15 minutes, in that official voice of his. He turned to me, started talking, and then realized he had his button down shirt undone, and his tie off - so he proceeded to get dressed all the way before issuing me my new calling. I laughed with him, and we speculated probably not many other people have had calling issued to them while the bishopric member was 3/4 dressed!

So, what is it? What new adventure awaits me? I was called and set apart to be the Second counselor in the Primary. I look forward to working with all the wonderful ladies already in the Primary presidency. I'm sad that Rebecca Smith is moving, which necessitated this changeover. I'll have to find a new quilting buddy to hang out with. I'm sad to move out of my callings as RS chorister and Bear den leader - they both were great fun. But, I'm looking forward to this new challenge!

Alexia did wonderful in Nursery today. They didn't even have to come get me! I guess the Lord really does bless our families when we serve in calling in the church!

Guess that's about it. I'm off to upstairs to clean up the water mess. What water mess? Well, the one where I put a 7 lb bag of ice in Lexi's crib this morning before church, to grab her Sunday dress, and then forgot it there until after church. I didn't believe my son at first when he told me there was ice in Lexi's crib, then the brain fairy hit me between the eyes, and I remembered what I had done...now I'm off to get the beach towels!

There's a storm a comin'...

Tattoo, anyone?

Tattoos Tattoos are reverse time machines - with time travel you can send a warning back to your younger self, with tattoos you send a mistake forward to your older self.

Just The Facts
Tattoos theoretically could be thoughtful additions to your appearance. Unfortunately there are thousands of tattoo parlors (many open 24 hours) and people just don't have that many thoughts. So most are stupid.

Tattoos are permanent. Your motivation/blood-alcohol level is not.

Tattoos are now as edgy as a padded watermelon.

Who gets tattoos?
Tattoos are an excellent way to turn a single drunken decision into a lifetime of disfigurement and regret, which normally requires a car.

Tattoos are associated with criminal gangs, the armed forces, and whiny white teenagers desperate for attention. Attempts to get all three to attend a common "Tattoo Conference" have unfortunately failed.

What Your Tattoo Says About You
Before you get a tattoo, there are some important questions to ask:

Have I wanted this for more than five minutes?

Am I, at this particular instant in sidereal time, drunk off my face?

Do the tattoo artist's past works resemble an art class for crash-helmet testers?

I meet the love of my life. I romance them for months, reaching a point where we can communicate our very deepest emotions and feel that we almost share souls (awwww). At this point, can I see myself explaining this tattoo?

Yearly Physical

Went to the doctor for my yearly physical.

The nurse starts with certain basics.

"How much do you weigh?" she asks. "135," I say.
The nurse puts me on the scale. It turns out my weight is 180.

The nurse asks, "Your height?" "5' 7"," I say.
The nurse checks and sees that I only measure 5' 5".

She then takes my blood pressure and tells me it is very high.
"Of course it's high!" I scream, "When I came in here I was tall and slender! Now I'm short and fat!"

She put me on Prozac. What a deal.

Wardrobe malfunction!

Well, it had to happen sometime....

Sunday, we were late to church - only a little bit, but we still sat in the back on the hard chairs. We sat on the same row as Adam and his lovely bride, Paige. I love sitting in a row with someone else - it's easier to corral my daugher if she doesn't have a quick get-away out of an open row of chairs.

Anyway, Alexia toddled over to flirt with Adam, and I see her out of the corner of my eye holding onto his leg and shaking her leg, like something is on it. I turn my head just in time to see her diaper go sliding down her leg and off her foot. Oh dear...baby is diaperless under her Suday dress...what to do?

You've probably never seen me move so fast to scoop her and the diaper up to go out to the foyer to re-dress her, and you've probably never seen Adam and Paige laugh during Sacrament meeting like they did yesterday. Stupid Costco diapers! Your tabs do not have the same sticking power as the name brand diaper - I'm now sure of it!

Next time, I'll make sure to take the 1-2 minutes to find the diaper cover, even if we're running late to church....

You JUST MIGHT be a Redneck, if....

Your sister is the third generation of women in your family to conceive a baby as a result of an alien abduction…

Your huntin dawg had a litter of puppies in the living room and nobody noticed.

Your whole family is Democrats 'cept little Mary. She lernt how to read.

You think ‘fast food’ means hitting a possum at 65 mph.

You had to remove your toothpick for wedding pictures.

You have something planted in a bathroom fixture in your front yard.

Bend Trip...

Wow! When you read how to download the pictures, it's actually very easy to do, so you can update your blog with your fun family adventure that happened two weeks ago!

Here we go, on our way to Bend. The drive there is SO pretty!

One of the evenings we were there, we sorta got lost, drove around for so long the kids fell asleep...deep asleep...it was SO quiet in the car...

One of the activities Brent wanted to make sure and do was to hike the mile long lava tube outside of town. We arrived too late to start on Friday, so the boys went back on Saturday, while us girls spent some time napping and reading at the condo.

Here's the entrance to the lava tube:

It's cold down there! These are ice formations on the bottom of the lava tube in one of the areas.

The tube slopes downward, getting skinnier as you go deeper. This is at the end of the tube - you can put your feet into in, and feel the end...

or, if you're brave, your torso and hand...
The boys came back happy and dirty from their adventure. They had a great time!

Then, we went to the high desert museum to play. They had an exhibit of old quilts (yeah!) a live animal exhibit - a western screech owl, and an exhibit on bats. We learned bats have awesome hearing...
and so does Brent when he's in "bat" mode.

They have a play area for the kids to burn off some energy...

and a slide that Lexi kept wanting to do over and over and over....

We spent some time with the Baller family (Yay!) We ate a yummy dinner, hung out and talked while the kids ran off some energy, saw some awesome chalk art, and then watched a hot air balloon lighting at dusk.

Here they are...it was SO nice to spend some time with them. We miss having them around!

One of the balloons for the lighting was an Energizer Bunny balloon - it was HUGE! They were giving away these cute bunny ears. Yes, they are Energizer Bunny ears, and not Playboy Bunny ears...let's not get mixed up, ok?

So pretty at night!

Inner peace...

CALMNESS IN OUR LIVES

I am passing this on to you because it definitely works, and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives.

By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr Phil proclaimed, 'The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.'

So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning,I finished off a package of Oreos, the rest of the s'mores makings from an old campout, the end of the vodka I have for making vanilla, the rest of the ice cream in the freezer, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates. You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.

Pass this on to those whom you think might be in need of inner peace.

Don't worry, be happy

"There are two ways of being happy: We must either diminish our wants or augment our means - either may do - the result is the same and it is for each man to decide for himself and to do that which happens to be easier."

Summer shoe preview

I received a funny e-mail from a friend today. Thought I'd share some of my favorites with you here -

I hope the lights work on these. You could see where you're walking in the dark. That would be cool.

Great bridal shoe! Hope the groom is eight feet tall.

LOL LOL LOL!! I hope those skinny knobby knee'd legs are strong.

Looks like the exoskeleton of an alien. Be hard crossing your legs. (I bet my chiropractic husband would like these ones!)

I hope this is a joke. I've never fancied myself looking like one of those half-horse kind of people.

Well......at least if you have stinky feet, you can blame it on the fish.

There aren't enough words for this...

Aarrrggghhh....

Guess I'll be blogging tomorrow, after reading the manuel about the camera....

Will you help?

I was listening to Dr. Laura today, and heard her speak about this serviceman, Sargent Daniel Thornhill. All his parents are asking is you drop a birthday card, or a thank-you-for- your-service note in the mail to him. He's having a rough time, and it would mean a lot.

I'm going to, and have my family members do it too...now, how about you?

Send a Note of "Thank You For Your Service and Happy Birthday" to Sgt. Thornhill
Date: 2009-06-03

Sgt. Daniel Thornhill was seriously injured in Afghanistan two years ago by a suicide bomber. This soldier has lost both legs, is paralyzed from the waist down and has suffered severed burns over his arms, hands and body.

He has been rehabbing at the Fisher House in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. (http://www.woai.com/news/local/story/Veteran-loses-limbs-in-battle-but-not-hope/r-aJbGIEdUuR_G98_RnTJA.cspx)

His parents have reached out for support -- not financially, but they are asking for as many service members, veterans, and others as possible to please send him a birthday card. His birthday is this coming week and it would be nice if a lot of us send him a note to show him how much we love him for what he has sacrificed for his country.

And if you're in the in the San Antonio area, stop by and visit not only this troop but others who may be in the same situation and Sgt. Thornhill and his family. Please brighten the day of a hero.

Take a note, banks!!

An old Native American wanted a loan for $500. He approached his local banker. The banker pulled out the loan application, asking, "What are you going to do with the money?"

"Take jewelry to city and sell it," said the old man.

"What have you got for collateral?" queried the banker, going strictly by the book.

"Don't know of collateral."

"Well that's something of value that would cover the cost of the loan. Have you got any vehicles?"

"Yes, I have a 1949 Chevy pickup."

The banker shook his head, "How about livestock?"

"Yes, I have a horse."

"How old is it?"

"I don't know; it has no teeth."

Finally the banker decided to make the $500 loan.

Several weeks later the old man was back in the bank. He pulled out a roll of bills, "Here's the money to pay loan," he said, handing the entire amount including interest.

"What are you going to do with the rest of that money?"

"Put it in my pocket."

"Why don't you deposit it in my bank?" the banker asked.

"I don't know of deposit."

"Well, you put the money in our bank and we take care of it for you. When you want to use it you can withdraw it."

The old Indian leaned across the desk, looking suspiciously at the banker, and asked, "What you got for collateral?"
