When the Outlaw designer paper retired in December I was a little bummed. I really like that paper so when I saw that the new catalog had the Western Sky designer paper, which is the same patterns but different colors I had to give it a try. I kinda let it sit there for several weeks because I wasn't too sure about the colors but I dragged them out today. I used Beate's weekend sketch challenge to make this really quick and simple card. I know it has a bunch of layers but it really was very quick. I just layered the designer paper with blue bayou and river rock card stock. The greeting and horse are stamped on whisper white, the greeting in blue bayou and the horse in river rock. I also sponged the edges of the whisper white card stock with river rock classic ink. Today we were challenged to use some form of leather and I really had to think about this one for a while, wasn't sure I had anything that would work. But when I shuffled through all the goodies in my office I found that I had saved a rawhide strip with a copper tag from a pair of jeans. The copper tag was too big for this project the the rawhide was exactly what I needed. Unfortunately I didn't find a big beautiful buckle while searching my office so I set out to make one on my own. I started with a little piece of chipboard, left over from a center of something or other. I punched two holes in it so I would be able to thread the rawhide strip through it when I was done. I covered the chipboard piece with versamark ink, covered it with gold embossing powder and heated it up with my heat tool. I repeated the process two more time to get a nice thick coat of embossing powder then while it was still hot I stamped into the embossing powder with the medallion stamp ( inked by d...

A couple of my online friends and I challenge each other weekly to make a RAK (random act of kindness) card and send it out to a specific person. This last week was Judy's turn to pick and she choose a woman from AZ who had fallen from her horse and was bleeding in the brain. She challenged us to use a stamped border. I could not seem to get a stamped border lined up to my satisfaction so I masked out the center of the card and stamped and sponged my border. To give the appearance the the horse is running I stamped the horse then moved the stamp about an eighth of an inch over (without reinking) and stamped again, moved the stamp and stamped again and again. I like how combining these techniques gave this card a lot of depth without adding extra layers of card stock.

Can you stand one more boho western card? I hope so since that is what I am in the mood for this morning. I actually did a card yesterday that used the same stuff and I forgot to clean up last night so this is what was sitting in front of me. I love the stuff so you are stuck with it. Nothing fancy on this one. The only tricky thing is how I stamped the horse. I inked the stamp with chocolate chip classic ink. Stamped the horse, lifted up the stamp, moved it over about an 1/8 of an inch and stamped again, then repeated the process 4 more times. I also sponged the edges of everything with chocolate chip ink. I need a bunch of thank you's so that is what I will be making over the next couple of days. What do you think? For this one I used the Wanted stamp set to make the really cool medallion in the center of the card. I stamped the image twice on chocolate chip, once on really rust and once on confetti cream card stock. I used my brand new scallop circle punch to punch out the bottom chocolate chip layer, the 1 3/8 inch circle punch to punch out the confetti cream layer, the 1 1/4 inch circle punch to punch out the really rust layer and 1/2 circle punch to punch out the last chocolate chip layer. I glued the confetti cream layer and the really rust layer together first then used a foam dimensional to add the top chocolate chip layer. I then attached all the layers to the chocolate chip scalloped circle with foam dimensionals again. Here is my card for today. I thought I would play around a little more with some of the "Boho Western" stuff. This card is really pretty simple but I think it came out wonderfully. The Sanded background is overstamped on the card body as well as over the main image. The main image and the medallion are both popped up. What I used.
