I'm Very Behind

2017 is not impressing me.  Haha!  Brandon commented yesterday that it's been a week without anyone at the doctor after I said I was going to take myself to Urgent Care if I didn't start feeling better.  This cold and flu season has been rough.  Good thing we got flu shots so it's not worse, and I feel a million times better today than all of last week.

In other Johansson news not related to illness, Colby has started his second season of soccer.  I love it.  He loves it.  Reggie has to play Mom at his practices because they are held at the same time as piano lessons.  Thankfully the park is just up the road and I can zoom up there as soon as I'm done and catch the last fifteen minutes.  It's nice to have an olderish kid.  It's going to be a dream to have a babysitter kid.  :)

Tommy's last tooth popped through yesterday.  I'm thinking we will get a tiny break before the two year old molars start hurting.

Brandon and I also went to a funeral last week for an amazing woman from church.  The funeral was long, but such a testament for what a great life she had lived.  I played a musical number and it went well.  I couldn't really hear the singer because the violinist was right in my ear, but Brandon said it was good.

This week is more of the same and hopefully we make it a few days were the only medication I'm dosing out is allergy meds!

What week is it?

I'm trying little blog.  I'm trying.  :)

This week we'll go for a run down person by person.  Let's begin.

Tommy--He's a happy little clam as long as he can be outside.  Last week was cold, but this week is mid 60's and we might even make it to the 70's and it's perfect for leaving the back door open and letting TJ roam around.  It's made piano lessons so much better and he's just happier in general.  He likes to ride in the police car and dig in the dirt.  Such a little boy.

Colby--He was special person last week at preschool and had a field trip to the library.  He had a couple nights of super strange sleep (up at 1:00 am and never went back to sleep and up at 3:00 am and never went back to sleep), but last night was normal.  I remember Reggie having a little bit of insomnia in kindergarten, so maybe that's what was going on.  I don't know for sure.  His soccer team will start practicing again in a couple of weeks, and he is so excited.  He's also been into science experiments lately, which has been fun.

Penny--She got her first report card for first grade and got all A's.  She also made it to the final round of the 1st grade girls four square tournament.  She is motivated with dance and after watching tonight's dance class, I have to say she's come a long ways.  She's still a little sloppy and off balance, but so much better than September.  Her first dance competition is April 8.  I have her kilt and vest.  We still need to track down shoes and socks and whatever it is she wears under her vest.  I have no idea.  :)

Reggie--He also got his first report card for third grade and got all A's.  Unfortunately he did not make the 3rd grade boys four square finals.  He was devastated and then crushed when he learned P had made hers.  He was also bummed out to learn that he didn't make it into the gifted and talented program.  His last football game was awesome.  He scored twice and was playing great defense.  He came home all scratched up from diving for flags on the dead grass.  He's always been great on offense and has been MVP every year, but it's fun to see him improve and really try at defense.  He says he's going for defensive MVP this year and he might have a chance of making it.  We'll see.

Me--I've been called to be the Young Woman secretary in our ward.  It's fun to be back in YW again and I've never been the secretary of an organization so I'm learning new things.  My piano students have been great lately.  We have a recital coming up and I've been so impressed with everyone's enthusiasm and effort as we learn new, harder songs.  The recital is going to be great.

Brandon--He's still in the Stake Young Men's program, but as the secretary this time.  He's actually at a meeting now.  They are still having him teach the twice a month mission prep class, and I know he really enjoys that.  Work is slow, but hopefully will pick up soon.  He was able to fix our washing machine pretty easily after getting the part on Amazon and helped Reggie make a pretty awesome "skateboard" for his scout troop's pinewood derby.

And I think that's it.  Phew!

The Weeks I Missed

Is January over yet?

I will sum up these missed weeks with a few sentences.

The dishwasher is still broken.  The washing machine is now broken.  The sink was leaking under the cabinets, but we fixed that ourselves.

Reggie threw up more times than I can count.  The only good thing that came from our two hour visit to the pediatrician was finding out he is not diabetic.  And a few days later, I had the same thing and now Brandon has it, so it was just a bug.  Tommy also has a cold.

We are kind of miserable.  Here's hoping this week is full of repairs and getting over all our sickness.

Week 2

We survived another week.  I'll just give a day by day run down.  :)

Monday-Brandon was able to stay home again for New Year's Day observed!  I honestly can't remember what we did except that we grabbed pizza and watched college football.  I'm sure we were productive, but I'm not totally sure.  Haha!

Tuesday-Back to school for everyone!  Hallelujah!  I was all ready for getting back to the daily schedule including piano lessons, but then Reggie came home, went straight to the bathroom and threw up.  With the way he was talking and acting, I suspected another round of strep.  Oh boy.  Piano is cancelled.  Penny did go to dance and from what I could hear from upstairs as I waited downstairs, it sounds like the girls were focused and learned some new steps.

Wednesday-Got Reggie in to see the doctor, and yep, round 2 of strep.  This time we're trying a different antibiotic and crossing our fingers that it works better.  Because he was feeling crummy, we skipped scouts and I cancelled piano.

Thursday-Tommy officially hit 18 months!  Reggie had to stay home again this day because he was still considered contagious until 24 hours after his first dose of antibiotic.  He was getting stir crazy, and I was getting stir crazy.  Strep is awful, but the turn around is pretty quick once you get an antibiotic in you.  I cancelled piano, but got to get out for Bunco.  Hallelujah!

Friday-Back to school for Reggie!  Wohoo!  And piano students for me!  We had planned to have Reggie's birthday party this night, but strep cancelled those plans.  Instead, we've decided to take each kid out on their birthday for a Mom and Dad (and for this time, Tommy) date.  We dropped Penny and Colby off to Uncle Bryant and Aunt Julie, and took the big boy and the baby boy to In N Out, which was his pick.  He ate a double double animal style with cheese, fries, and a strawberry shake.  I think he was making up for lost calories (poor kid has dropped to 50 lbs with all the strep.  He was a whopping 53 maybe before).  After eating, we ran into Lowe's to grab some tools for his pinewood derby race that will be at the end of the month.

Saturday-It was cold.  But it was also Reggie's birthday!!!  He turned 9.  We woke up and got a few things done and then headed over to Reggie's first football game of the winter season.  Our team only has 8 players this time, and two were missing.  Reggie got to play every second.  He didn't get a touchdown, but he did have a great run for a first down and even though the other team was bigger, we somehow pulled out a win.  After the game, we came home for a mellow afternoon.  Brandon and I worked on painting grout for a couple of hours, and then we headed to Subway to pick up dinner.  After dinner, Bryant and Julie came over for cake and presents.  He got a Lego set, some rockets, new bedding, and some clothes.

Sunday-Tommy went to nursery for the first time by himself.  How the heck is he 18 months old?  He did great.  They said he cried for a minute, but snuggled up with Melissa Oldroyd until he felt better.  Reggie fasted until church was over for the first time too.  They also announced that our ward boundaries will be redrawn (basically), and we'll find out the details next week.

And finally today, another Monday-P woke up with a sore throat.  I kept her home and called my brother for a antibiotic.  I've spent way more on copays these last two weeks and decided to save myself a doctor appt, especially because I'll be there on Wednesday with Tommy.  I feel like I'm coming down with a cold; hopefully it's a mild one.  :)

Until next week.  And I think my goal of blogging on Sunday needs to be officially changed to blogging on Monday.  :)

Johansson's Currently Week 1

For 2017 I wanted to kind of bring back the blog.  What?!  Who does that anymore?  My goal is to blog on Sunday, and considering I missed the first Sunday of the year, you can tell how dedicated I am to this goal.  And beyond renaming the blog, I haven't figured out how to take off my polka dot background so bear with me while it looks dated for a bit.  :)  Here we go!

Reading: As a family, we are still plugging through The Book of Mormon.  Reggie I think is in the middle of either a Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Captain Underpants book.  I bought him some legit reading material for Christmas, but he falls back to those at bedtime.  Whatevs.  Penny has been working through a few of The Princess in Black books.  It's awesome that she can read to herself now.  Hallelujah!  I spent a good half hour yesterday digging through Overdrive for something to read and came away with a whole bunch of holds and a YA fiction from Kasie West called Pivot Point.  I'm not sure if it's good or not having just started yesterday for about 10 minutes.

Looking forward to: Reggie's birthday this Saturday.  How is he 9!

Stressing about: How to fit in a birthday party amidst the regular busy weekend schedule we already have.  I'm going to use my mom charm to hopefully persuade him to do a late, movie night with his buddies.

Craving:  Nothing.  So much food went into my belly over Christmas break.  Haha!

Wanting: A new dishwasher.  This might be on the currently post every. single. week.  Ugh.

Proud of myself for: Exercising.  I'm so out of shape.  It's embarrassing.  Another 2017 goal is to exercise for 20-30 minutes M-F.  I put it out there.  So let it be written, so let it be done.

Wearing: Jeans and a t-shirt.  Tuesday is laundry day so nothing fancy here...although everyday is basically a jeans and t-shirt day...

Avoiding:  Nothing.  Carpe Diem!

Sick of:  Can I mention the dishwasher again?  :)

Learning:  To repaint grout.  We are trying to make our floors look a little better until we get them replaced in a few years.  Our grout is so teeny tiny that it's a real task to get the paint in the grout and then wipe it off the tiles.  It's going to be a long process.

Suffering from:  Nothing.  Reggie got strep throat over Christmas, but knock on wood, he kept it to himself.

Struggling with:  Nothing currently.

Overcoming:  Sugar cravings.  Along with the exercise goal, Brandon and I have cut out our nightly "good job being awesome today" 8:00 pm treat M-F.

Hoping to: Survive the afternoon rush.  Tuesday's aren't the worst, but having had Christmas break, it's going to be fun readjusting to the daily schedule.

Excited for:  A new year.  Got to love a blank calendar!

Relieved by:  Two weeks off of piano lessons.  It was good to have a break.  I love teaching piano.  I really do.  Tommy does not.  It is making for a hard stage right now.  I remember Colby going through the same thing at about the same age.  We are surviving by giving him chocolate chips and cheetos in the high chair when I'm with a student.

Splurging on: Birthday presents for Reggie.  It's always hard to figure out something fun for his birthday since it's so close to Christmas, but I think I got some good stuff that he will be happy with.

June 2013

June held two vacations.  Prepare for picture overload.

First up, Lake Arrowhead--also known as trip from Hades.  Actually, the daytime activities were fine.  It was the nighttime sleep that didn't happen and the drive home that was rough.  Let's just say there was all sorts of bodily fluids being spewed around the van.  Ew.

The great grandkids all got tshirts and visors.  There were a lot of little kids running around, but you could easily spot one of our group's because of their neon tshirts.  Good thinking whoever was in charge of shirts.

Colby wasn't a fan of sleeping in the hotel room/cabin.  Here's the only good sleep he got that weekend.  I love snuggling babies.

And to finish up Arrowhead, let me just say what a fabulous family I married into.  We were there to celebrate Grandma and Grandpa Johansson's 60th wedding anniversary.  They are just some of the best people, and it was great being with them and the family that has been built because of them.

And then a couple weeks later in June, we set off for Sunriver, Oregon.  That place is heaven on earth.  We had about a 15 hour drive to get there.  On the way there, we split the trip up into two days.

Outside our hotel in Reno.  The kids thought the hotel was awesome.  We ended up having to each sleep with a kid to get them to stay settled in bed long enough to go to sleep.

And I've already mentioned Crater Lake on the blog, but here's the picture again.

We went to Sunriver to be with my parents and brothers for a week.  The house that they rented was fabulous.  Under the stairs had been converted to a little play area with it's access through that little door behind P.  They loved it.

The backyard.  Down there was also a fire pit and a little dock to get on the river.

It rained the first two or three days we were there.  We left a few dads home with sleeping babies (Brandon included) and took our bigger kids to see Monsters University.  It was my kiddos first time in a theater.  They did alright.  P got bored pretty quick, so keeping her occupied was a bit of a task, but Reggie did great.  They both got a little scared at the end and then had to go potty, so we missed the very very end.  Oh well.  But based on that experience, I have no desire to take Penny to a movie again until she's at least 4.

The backyard also had a hot tub, although the water wasn't ever very warm.  My kids and their obsession with pool safety insisted on wearing floaties in the hot tub even though they could touch the bottom at it's deepest point.  These are probably the last pictures we have with Reggie in floaties.  He started swimming independently right before this trip and had it mastered by the end of summer.

Sunriver is a resort town, and one day we went into the village by the resort to shop.

Who knows why my leg is sticking out like that.  Ha!

The house was also equipped with a ton of bikes.  My parents tried out the tandem.  I was too scared to try it.  :)

Brandon and Reggie tried out the afterburner.  Reggie was pretty nervous about it, but in the end, really liked it.

P tried out a little Cars bike.  I think that was her first time on a real bike.  We have a big wheel for her at our house.

And we gave the paddleboat a whirl.

We also took a walk around the golf course.  Gorgeous.

I have pictures of me and friends at this same waterfall feature from various trips to Sunriver while growing up.

And Colbs was there too.  A lot of the outside stuff we did while he was napping since he wasn't walking at his point.

And our tradition with big vacations is to buy matching tshirts.  We started it on our honeymoon, and let me say, buying five t shirts is a little spendy!

And I'll finish this monster post with this picture.  The house had a couple of massage chairs in the family room.  I think it was more uncomfortable than anything for the kids since their bodies were to small to fit where they were supposed to, but they thought it was hilarious to get slammed around by the rollers.  We thought it was hilarious too.

May 2013

May was a big month for Reggie.  I swear the other kids were around too, but apparently only Reggie was photographed that month.  Ha!

Brandon and Reggie went back to Valley of Fire for our ward's Father's and Son's campout.  I love Father's and Son's.  And next year, Colby is totally going.  :)

Then Reggie went with Brandon to Youth Conference.  This was another camp out activity.  Brandon said it was blazing hot.

One of Brandon's buddies brought this little bike.  Reggie was pretty nervous about even sitting on it.

They had a jammed packed day and it ended waaaaaay past bedtime with a dance for the youth.  Reggie danced with his babysitter (who we totally miss since she graduated early and went off to college).

And at the end of May, Reggie graduated from preschool.  Preschool was soooooo good for him.  We all fell in love with his teachers and had such a great experience.

Reggie led us all in the Pledge of Allegiance.

His teacher had interviewed him and told us about his year and goals as he got his diploma.  He said he wants to be a construction worker when he grows up.

Miss Christine.

Miss Karen.

Also with graduation, they got a slideshow of the year and a class picture.  Later in the day, Reggie was at the table crying while looking at his picture.  When we asked him what was wrong he said he missed Miss Karen.  I'm so glad he loved preschool, and I'm so glad P is with Miss Karen and Miss Christine this year!
