a day at the lake (again)

Kenny's little brother and sister moved to town for college,

so we've been hanging out with them a little. Kenny's especially excited,

 because now he has a fishing buddy.

 

Over the weekend we all headed out to the lake for the day.

 We packed a picnic for lunch and dinner, and spent the whole day up there.

 

Aiden started out immediately looking for snakes. He's completely obsessed.

 



 

Capri woke up with her one eye almost completely swollen shut. It was so weird.

It was swollen most of the day, but as the swelling slowly went down, it got more and more bruised.

By the end of the day, she had a full on black eye. And she got it overnight, in her crib.

No idea how that happened. But my guess is she slept on her binkie.

 

Looking for more snakes.

 



 

She's loving blankets lately! This is one that I got for her at DI for super cheap

so she could get it dirty on the mountain and it wouldn't matter. It's old so it's super soft and she loves it. She likes to rub her face in it :)

 

After lunch I sat and read my book while Capri napped, and the boys fished. 

 

 

I love that she can sleep like this!

 

After she woke up a couple of hours later we went back down to the lake.

The boys were still fishing of course!

 

 

No matter what, Aiden finds some kind of wildlife.

That there is a lady bug on his sleeve.

 

 

Capri picked up daddy's fly rod, and started waving it around.

Almost as good as daddy!

 



 

This may be my favorite picture I've ever taken.

 

 

Kenny started teaching Aiden how to cast the fly rod, it was so cute watching him!

 

 

He had so much fun, now he wants his own fly rod.

 



 

 

When the kids got tired of fishing, we headed over to the other side of the dam

to walk along the creek. It's so beautiful over there!

 

 

There were several points along the trail where we had to duck to avoid branches.

Since Capri was riding on Kenny's shoulders, he had to duck even lower, and Capri thought it was so funny. She giggled every time.

 

 

Karrina wanted to take a new "facebook profile" photo, so Kenny took it upon

himself to show her a few poses she could use.

 

 

I voted for this one.

 

I don't think Aiden got what they were trying to do :)

 



 

 

We found a grill and some picnic tables and grilled some hotdogs, and had a

picnic again for dinner.

random thoughts from Aiden

I've been trying to be better about writing down the things Aiden says that I think are funny.

Here are a few that I remembered to write down.

 

Capri has a problem keeping her clothes on. And sometimes diapers. One day Aiden was getting frustrated with her, as she was once again slipping out of her pants and diaper, all at once. Aiden yelled "Capri, we don't want to see your DANG butt!"

Aiden was really sick, and had been throwing up all day. It was bedtime, and I had tucked him in, just for him to get out of bed a minute later to puke again. Afterward he was resting in bed and he told me "Mom, I need Dad to lay his hands on my head to give me a blessing to get feeling better."

We were headed out to the lake for a day of fishing..."Dad, I just want to catch a salmon, and a steel head and a pot head."

"Mom, I'm just going to sit on the couch. Cool grown up teeth though!"

Kenny was lifting a book up over his head, Aiden screamed "don't smite me with that book!"

We were having a cookie snack break, and Aiden had eaten his faster than I did. Aiden "Mom, do you want me to get another cookie so we can be cookie twins?"

Kenny had a moment (a few weeks time...) where he was constantly singing that annoyingly catchy song "Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy...etc" So he and Aiden were rough housing on the floor, and Aiden was getting pummeled. Aiden goes "Dad, this is crazy. I just met you!"

With Aiden gone to school every day, all day, Capri and I have been

trying to figure out a good routine, and figuring out the things that are still fun to do without Aiden.

 

We get some pretty good, quality time together, which I am loving, and I know she loves it too.

It's been great for her as well, she's improved so much just in the last couple of weeks.

 

She's been a little bit behind in just a few areas, speech being the biggest one. She still only says a few words consistently, and doesn't really seem to want to try the communication thing.

We've been in contact with The Learning Center, an early intervention place that works with kids to get them caught up to where they need to be.

 



 

So a speech therapist will be coming over a couple times a month to work with her,

and I'm excited to learn some things that will help us to teach her.

 

 

The other day, Aiden was at school, and we needed to get out of the house, so

I loaded her up in the car to head to the park. She grabbed her toy camera, lifted it up to her face and said "Cheeeese". It was the first time she's said anything other than her regular words, I was so excited! She had the biggest grin on her face. 

 

I love her with every little bit of my heart, yet I feel the same about her brother. How is that possible?

She is sweet, smart, and hilarious. I'm already so proud of her for all that she's learned and accomplished. Can't wait for more!

first grade

Summer break went by so fast!

 

All of a sudden, it was August again, and on the 13th was

the 1st grade sneak peek. We went and met his teacher, saw his classroom,

and had all of our questions answered.

 

I was not super excited about school starting again already, but Aiden sure was!

This kid loves school.

 

 

We had one more free day after the sneak peek, and then school started officially on the 15th.

I dropped him off, more for me than for him. He would rather have ridden the bus.

I walked him up to the school, made sure he remembered where he was supposed to line up

when the bell rang, and then he said "ok mom, you can go now". So I did.

Before I got too far away, I remembered that I hadn't taken a "first day of school" picture,

so I made him pose for me. This is his "I'm much too busy for this" fake smile.

 

It's hard to put into words how I feel about my boy being in first grade. All day school. He leaves at 8:15, and gets home at 3:45. He's at school for seven and a half hours, and home for four before it's bedtime. It kind of breaks my heart. On the other hand, for the first time in her life, Capri gets quality one on one time with her momma, that Aiden got for so many years. She and I are already so much closer than before, because we get that time. I just feel bad that Aiden is absent for our quality time!

 

Aiden's loving his teacher, he really likes riding the bus, and he is thrilled that he gets to eat lunch at school every day. I love him so so much.

wedding day

Funny story. My grandma got Capri this gorgeous dress, and gave it to us just after she was born.

I remember thinking she would never fit into it, it's a size 24 mo. So, as she got closer to fitting into it, I got excited because my brother was going to be getting married this summer, and that would be the perfect occasion for her to wear such a darling, fancy dress. I tried it on her a few weeks before the wedding so my mom could see it, but for some reason, she didn't like it. Something about it must have been uncomfortable, because I had to wrestle her into it, and then once I had it zipped she cried and pulled at it till I took it off. So then I started to get a little nervous about the actual wedding, when she would have to wear it, and be good.

 

No worries though, it all turned out ok. I let her play with my phone while I put it on her, and

then she didn't seem to even notice it. Mom 1, Capri 0!

 

She looked beautiful though!

 

 

 

Getting a picture of Aiden was a little tricky, because he was constantly running

off with all the other kids that were there.

 

 

I wasn't the "official" photographer, so I got to take my camera, and take pictures for fun. No pressure!

The day after Wicked was Aiden's sixth birthday.

Since we were already going to be up in the Salk Lake area, we planned

to go to Lagoon the next day for a day of fun, and to celebrate Aiden's birthday.

 

That morning he opened his presents that Grandma and Grandpa,

and Kimbrey, Daniel, Chase and Brody gave him.

 

 

And then we headed to Lagoon! Aiden loves theme parks, so I knew it would be a hit.



First thing, we all just started jumping into lines, and riding rides.

Aiden talked Grandma into riding several with him, which is something spectacular,

because she doesn't ride rides.

I only got a few pictures, because after a little while I took my camera back to the car so I didn't have to worry about it. I used my phone camera for the rest of the day.



 

Not only did Aiden love the rides, but Capri did too. I wasn't sure she would, and I wasn't even sure she would stay seated on a ride. So I was pleasantly surprised when she loved her first ride, and did everything she could to keep riding rides all day.

 

That's Aiden and Bridger all the way up there. They stayed up at the top the entire time :)

 



She loved it!

 

The best part of the day, was when she fell asleep right before we got on the log flume ride,

and she slept through the whole thing, even though she got soaked.

Mom and I watched Capri (who was napping) and Brody while everyone else went on the Rattlesnake rapids. I have the best family!

 

Such a fun day!!
