Altered tins

I have been in the process of jazzing up my craft room a little bit and I wanted some new pots for my paint brushes.

I had brought some but I wanted some different size ones for my shorter brushes and my pencils.

I have decorated these two so far using images that people had put up on their blogs, one was Mark Montano the other I cannot remember.

They are just a painted background with a bit of stenciling added before gluing my printed image on, and adding a bit of trim to the top.

Sardine Tin Shrine for Paperartsy

A Foxy Tin

It's Wednesday so that means it's time for a new challenge at the Stampotique Blog. 

This week Valerie has chosen the theme of "what's old is new again" and has asked us to recycle or re-purpose and older item.

I have recycled a small tin that used to hold mints.

I went for a journal theme on my tin.

I first gave it a coat of chalk paint to cover the paint on the tin but also to give my paint a bit of tooth.

I then dry brushed  my 3 colours of paint onto the lid and sides of the tin, added my background stamping with black archival ink. Then used a Dinky stencil to add gesso to the lid.

I stamped Foxy onto white paper and coloured him with pencils before cutting him out and sticking him down.

I then dragged some lines onto the top of the tin using blue paint and an old store card. Finally adding a word from the Word Collage stamp to the top right of the tin lid.

I sealed it with a coat of DecoArt Satin Varnish.

Altered Tin with Verday Paints For Happy Daze

This was in it's previous life a M & S mint tin. I Painted it with the Verday Copper Patina paints and solution to give it the lovely patina finish.
I then gave it a coat of Multi medium to seal it before stamping onto it.
I used the Artistic Outpost stamps Paris Exposition and  French Flight, stamping the images directly onto the lid of the tin using Black Stazon ink and masking as necessary.

Sardines anyone

I love empty Sardine tins, to me they just scream to be altered, so here is yet another one. This was done as part of a DPOV challenge and as it also fits the bill for the Sir Stampalot challenge this month I have added it for that too.

Something About Alice

One of these is my sample for Alter It monthly this Month.
The large red rose is made from a custom made mold and red UTEE. The collage is done in an over sized Bottle Cap.

A Quick Tin

As I love the M & S mints I have a stack of these little tins. I usually chuck them on the fire to strip all the paint off them, but this one I just gave a quick swoosh of gesso a bit of distress ink and then stamped on it with stazon. I then over spritzed it with moon shadow mist and a bit of embossing on the edges. I cannot decide if the candy dots are a mistake or not but its too late now as they are stuck on.

Small Tin

This was just a plain little tin that Was Inked with AI inks and the image stamped on it in Stazon. I just really liked this image and when I saw the tin I just thought it was a nice size for this stamp. Very quick and easy but has a nice vintage look to it.

Tin Shrine

This is for a swap I am in on Zuzu's forum. It's an M & S mint tin
This is my first attempt at cutting a window in a tin and then soldering in a piece of glass.

I had a book for my birthday of my Daughter called Metal Craft Discovery Workshop by Linda and Opie O'Brien. It is the most amazing book and it has really inspired me to try something new this year.

As usual my photographic skills are 2nd to none LOL...what I really needed here was Zuzu and her camera :)

National Foof Day

Foof !!,  F swap was arranged around the word, anything went so long as it had the word on it. This is my make, it was a sardine tin and now its a shrine to all that is foofie.

One Powerful Hour - Recycle Your Sardine Tins

I am lucky enough to be the Example on One Powerful Hour this week. This is the piece I did for it.

Sardine Tin Shrine

This started life as a Sardine tin which I hate (yuck) so I had to get this off my Mum. I painted the whole tin with acrylic paint did not like that LOL so then I covered the inside with decopatch. All the watch pieces and hands are old reclaimed items as I do love to use old things when I can. The wings and star crown are cut from metal and then alcohol inked and stuck on with hot glue with a little gem to finish it off. The image is from a cemetery Angles sheet from Collage stuff and the wrought iron image stamped on the acetate is Paper Artsy.
With taking off the time allowed for drying I was actually surprised how quick this was to make and I came in well under the hour.

An Altered Tin

I made this for Zuzu for her birthday. Its a Marks and Spencer mint tin. I got a few 10 second studio bits recently with the thought of using them for tin lids and the like. This is my first attempt as lazyKay will know I have struggled with the 10 second stuff and she has been very helpful with hints and tips.

I embossed a cover for the lid and then attached it and then inked it with alcohol inks. It is designed to be a match tin as matches just fit into it nicely and I know Z loves her open fire.

Watchmakers Tin

I was given a set of these by Cath at Katyscorner, So I arranged a swap with them on Zuzu's Forum. I had never done one before and I must admit I found it harder than I originally thought it would be. I used alcohol inks on the outside, an image in the bottom and then various bits and pieces I had laying around. I used a rub on on the glass lid to try and give it some depth.

I think these are something I need to work on.

It is an exceptionally bad photo of it as it is extremely blurry (my photo skills are practically zero).
