A Sweet Girl

I haven't posted in over a year and I probably won't post for at least another year, but I just wanted to show that my miserable pregnancy ended with a sweet girl. She is almost a year old now. I know I am skipping over a lot, but here she is. Lucy Lou. Just for you aunties and grandmas.

A Prego Rant

Well, I haven't posted on here for 9 months now. I have pretty much given up with the blog. I just don't want to upkeep it. However, I need to vent and this seems like a good place to do it. I don't want to call someone I love and complain so I am using this as my personal journal today. But I don't really care who reads it. Fair warning- it is a mostly negative post, so stop reading now if you can't hack it.

My life is good. Really good actually. I have SO much that I am grateful for and so many things that I never thought I would have. I have the things that most people want in life. A wonderful husband that loves me, works hard to provide for our family, makes a good living and is completely willing to let me spend his hard-earned money however I want to. He is a good man, who honors the priesthood. He loves our children and is a good father to them. He is amazing and I adore him. My kids are all healthy, beautiful, well-adjusted, happy (most of the time), have no social issues and have only the normal age-appropriate behavior issues any parent deals with. That is truly something to be thankful for- and I am. I am able to have my dream job as a stay-at-home mom. I know so many people that want to do this and can't. It is a blessing and I recognize that. We all do have those days, no matter what our job is, when we would rather be doing somebody else's job. That said- I am happy with my job and I love my kids like crazy.

All in all, my life is exactly what I want it to be. Except for one thing. I'm pregnant and it SUCKS! Let me quickly clarify that statement. I am happy to be expecting this baby- I love her already and I can't wait to hold her in my arms. She is VERY much wanted. I am thrilled that she is healthy and thankful she is joining our family. I have been blessed to have been pregnant 4 times before now and I knew what came with the territory. It's not pretty. Pregnancy is riddled with awful symptoms. Just to name a few: nausea, vomiting, dry heaving, knock-down drag-out fatigue, headaches, aversions to all things smelly, pregnancy brain (ditzy & forgetful), moodiness, back pain, stretch marks, constipation, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, insane cravings, random bursts of ravenous hunger, sleepless nights, leg cramps, squashed-bladder syndrome, difficulty breathing, being kicked in your ribs repeatedly, swollen ankles, HEARTBURN, lack of lap space for other kids, inability to shave legs, put on socks, paint toe nails etc., strangers touching your belly and asking you questions that are none of their business, watching the scale go up and up and up, painful braxton hicks contractions and just generally feeling like poop. Say nothing of the actual labor, delivery, recovery and post partum issues.

I expected all these things. I knew they were inevitable. They stink, but that's okay and I can get over them. What is really bothering me about this pregnancy is an unexpected problem that is making my life absolutely miserable. All it is, is a tiny little pinched nerve in my left hip. Doesn't sound like a big deal, right? Let me just say this. All those awful things I listed above, I have experienced and was willing to experience them again and again to have more children. But if this were my first pregnancy and the ONLY issue I had was the pain from this pinched nerve, I would not be having any more children again. Period.

I have been suffering from this for a few months and it is getting worse. I am not just sitting by and letting this happen to me. I have been proactive. Stretches, exercises, physical therapy, a TENS unit, chiropractic and when all else fails, Vicodin. I have an appointment for acupuncture even. So here I am, counting down the weeks (9 till I'm due, 5 till she can be born safely)and trying to make it one day at a time. I dread every time I have to go from sitting to standing or vice versa. Bending over, carrying anything more than 2 pounds, walking around the grocery store, stepping in and out of the shower, doing laundry, FREAKING putting my pants on- it all hurts! Stairs are the bane of my existence. I hate them. I HATE them. The only time I get relief is when I sit perfectly still or when I am sleeping. But of course when you are sleeping you can't stay in one position all night, especially if you are pregnant. That means rolling over. Guess how much fun that is for me. I am incredibly frustrated that I can't do the everyday things that I need and want to do. I hate not being able to live up to my responsibilities. To sum it all up: I am crippled and hurting constantly. And it sucks. And I hate it.

I hate that my family is suffering from it too. My house is a wreck and I have been a craptastic homemaker as of late. We eat like crap because it is too hard to get around the kitchen for any amount of time to make a decent meal. My poor toddler can't even have her mom hold her unless I am sitting down. My kids are picking up the slack where they can. For the most part they are understanding and helpful, but I can see it is frustrating for them that mom is not functioning at full-capacity. My husband? Well- he is Superman. He comes home from a long day at work and then does anything and everything that needs done that I can't do. And then he hugs me when I cry about how hard my day has been. He is wonderful- he is patient- he is my hero- he deserves sainthood and I can't sing his praises enough. God truly chose to favor me when He put him in my life.

I know the pain will end one day soon and eventually I will forget how horrific this pregnancy was. I will have a sweet little girl to make it all worth the pain. And I don't doubt that she will be worth it. But for now, I just needed to vent because this sucks really bad and I just had to say so.

Spring FINALLY!

It has been the longest winter of my life. You'd think I would do some blogging during all of that snow, right? Sorry. Nope. I'm not even going to go back and tell you how Christmas break was or what has been going on the past several months. Instead I am going to skip right to the good stuff. It is FINALLY spring here. Yes, that does mean rain, rain and more rain, but it also means green, green and more green. You have to take the bad with the good. The temperature was 82 degrees here today, about 40 higher than St. George (I know....weird) and we took advantage by sitting out on the lawn and getting some vitamin D. Yes- the sun does come out between rain storms. Thank goodness!

Here are a few shots of our 7 month old Tessa. Quick update on her latest news: She has been sitting up on her own for over 6 weeks now and is pretty much to the point where she won't tip over accidentally anymore. Phew! She rolls all over, scoots backwards and gets on her hands and knees, but so far no crawling motions. Hopefully she has another month of immobility because I need to baby proof the house! She still spits up -gross- but not as much as she used to. She is making up for it with copious amounts of drool. She cut her two bottom teeth a month ago and likes to use them to bite and soak whatever gets in her mouth, which is anything she can get her hands on. She LOVES to pull hair, pinch lips or cheeks, tug on earrings and other jewelry, and grab glasses off faces. She has been eating solid food for a month now and her favorite is pears. For a while she was saying "dadadada" which sounded like dad and more recently she has been saying "nananana" which sounds likes nana. I've been trying to get it on video, but she hasn't cooperated thus far. She is a pretty easy going and happy girl. She still sleeps through the night really well and wakes up happy and talkative. She loves her siblings and they can make her smile and giggle in no time. I can't believe how fast the time has gone by and I wish it would just slow down. I am loving these baby days. We can't wait to visit Grandma and Grandpa over Easter and then Nana and Papa over summer break so they can see how big Tessa has grown. We love and miss you all! XOXO

P.S. Today marks the one year anniversary of our move to Indianapolis! Whoa. That is crazy!

Fall Fun

So here's an update on what we've been up to. A few weeks ago Joe D's parents and his sister came out to visit us and meet Tessa. What a treat! We didn't tell the kids they were coming so it was the best surprise ever. They couldn't believe Nana and Papa were at our house! While they were here we mostly relaxed and enjoyed each others company, but we did take the kids to the pumpkin festival. They had a blast with the petting zoo, hay ride, tractor bikes, jumbo slide and all the other kids activities. My favorite part was the food. Shocker, I know. Hot apple cider, fresh kettle corn and homemade apple cinnamon donuts. Yeah. Heaven. It was a perfect day. You can click on the collage to make it bigger. The very next weekend, we drove out to Hamilton to visit Mom and Harlan. It was a short weekend, but a fun one. The kids loved all the yard decorations, playing with the dogs and picking vegetables from the garden. We also went and saw some more of the church history sites in Nauvoo. Their favorite was the print shop where they got to try out a really old printing press. The drive with the kids was miserable (and no, it wasn't Tessa's fault) and it made me dread the 26 hour drive to Utah that we are planning on Christmas break. Eeek. I hope we can survive it.Then Kenzi had her 9th birthday this past week. Yes, NINE. I know- can you believe that? Because I can't. For her party this year I took her and 5 friends to a beauty school and they got their hair and makeup done. It worked out perfectly because they all had a Halloween party that night. Needless to say it was a HUGE success. They all loved it and Kenzi most of all. She is seriously a great kid and I am so glad to call her mine. Love that girl!At the same time I was chillin' with the 9 year olds, Will was across the city at his first Pee Wee Wrestling tournament. He just started wrestling a couple months ago so he was super nervous about his first meet. He was the only one in his weight class so they bumped him up to the older group. So he was wrestling some big boys that had been doing it for a few years. He held up pretty well I hear. I was bummed I wasn't there to see it. Joe D said he tried hard and had great sportsmanship. I can't wait till the next one!And then of course, we have pumpkin carving and Halloween!!! YAY! I was pretty lame this year, due to Tessa. It's too cold to take her around. I mean, I could bundle her up, but then who would see how cute she was in her costume? Speaking of her costume, I couldn't decide which one was cuter. You tell me. You guys are the only ones that got to see how cute she is in it. I didn't even have a costume this year. Next year. Next year will be great. I'm already making plans. I love Halloween! Here are the kids carving their pumpkins and the jack-o-lantern display on our front porch. And then of course, the costumes. Just for explanation: Kenzi is a DJ, Will is a zombie soldier, and Sadie is a garden gnome. Joe D didn't have a costume either. He thinks he's too good for costumes. I think he's too boring for them. :) j/k I'll get him in one next year. You wait and see.I have to go get my kids in bed. Actually, they have been "in bed" for 45 minutes, but they aren't going to sleep and I am losing my patience. Hope you all had a great Halloween!
