Susan's home at Christmas Time

Susan invited her exercise buddies to her home early in the morning on Thursday, December 29th.  She served warm drinks, soft cheeses and sweets then read us two stories - The Stone by Diane Hofmeyr and A Christmas Blessing by Welleran Polternees. Here is a brief excerpt of his blessing book from Amazon:

Santa found his way to the Weight house...shiny pink sleds, Barbie movies, tutus and treats.  Thank you Santa!

'Twas the NIght before Christmas...

The little girls were excited, but Finn was ho-hum. He slept through the traditional poem and scripture reading and didn't blink when the Weight and Whitehead crowd erupted into glorious strains of carols and a chorus of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.  Lizzy and Noey composed a letter to Santa, then spiffed the place up for his big arrival.  When the cookie, milk and carrots for the reindeer were in place the girls hustled off to bed where visions of sugar plums and Barbie movies danced in their heads...

Sledding on Christmas Eve 2011

Zipping down a hill, the spray of snow hitting your face, no control over your missile of plastic, screams of glee tinged with a bit of fear, missing mittens, frozen ears, trudging up the slope and sliding down again and again and again...later - sipping cups of hot cocoa and whipped cream and feeling the peace of being together on a winter's eve.

Over 14 inches of snow fell in one night...Terry had to snow blow the driveway before he could go to work.  Let it snow!

Hmong Christmas Party - Dec 17, 2011

The Hmong celebrated the holiday season with spring rolls, chicken and quail egg soup, meat salad, turkey and cake.  Santa dropped by for a visit, we had traditional dancers, caroling and a pinata.  Merry Christmas!

California Adventures with ASD Friends

I had the privilege of attending an outstanding professional development conference in Anaheim, California. Six days in sunny California (but of course, we were marooned inside windowless rooms in the convention center).  We flew all night from Anchorage and then spent our first day at Disney! 

Under the Sea Birthday for Elizabeth and Noelle in Fairbanks

Melissa created a magical party for the twiners - an "underwater" extravaganza with Rice Krispie sea stars, "pearl" filled oysters cookies and a submarine sub sandwich.  Noelle's aunts and uncles and cousins from Fairbanks were all there to celebrate the big occasion - the party on November 26 was a few days early, so Terry and I, Melissa's mother, Dalene and the girl's Aunt Lacy- all visiting from Anchorage and Eagle River could join in the happy day- the girls were born on December 4, 2006.
