Of Ear Infections and Colds

I took Spencer to his 6 month "well baby" check up yesterday. He's had a cold for a week now and hasn't been the most pleasant baby. But I was sad to find out that he has an ear infection. So yummy amoxicillin for him for the next week. He's my first child to have to have antibiotics, so that's a bummer. I knew it would happen eventually (it's a miracle, really, that Justin hasn't ever needed abx), but sad for baby Spencer. We ALL have horrible colds over here, and the baby was the first one to get it (we think he gave his to all of US!). I'm just hoping that we don't have a different cold virus so he doesn't get another cold (from us) right after this one subsides. It's finally "warming up" here; I'm hoping that being outside a little more will help us stay a little more healthy instead of being cooped up inside all day, everyday, sharing germs! Justin has been so excited to have outdoor recess at school this past week; he's come home with eewy dirty brown socks from playing in the sandbox everyday at school! Fun times!

Justin-isms

A few things Justin has said over the past week that I don't want to forget...

1) Today we got our Ensign and Friend magazines in the mail. Justin acted very puzzled and said he didn't understand how the mailman dropped off the magazines at our house. Justin asked if the mailman "knows Jesus, because that's where the magazines come from."

2) I played a piano solo yesterday (Easter Sunday) in our ward (I Stand All Amazed). I had a sister from our ward sit with the kids since Adam was gone on call. After sacrament, Sister Irby said that Justin told her as I was walking up to go play the piano, "Watch. Everytime that piano makes a mistake, my mom is going to yell at it." I've laughed a lot about this one...I guess I DO yell at the piano when I practice and make a mistake!:)

3) Justin informed me Sunday that when we're sad, Jesus is sad. Good insight I thought, likely from one of his primary teachers. Yay for Primary!!

Cure for Walmart Rage

So we realized at 8pm last night that Justin didn't have a green shirt to wear for St. Patty's Day today, so I made plans to go shopping at my very favorite store (please, hear the sarcasm here) Walmart. Now, I think that my every return from Walmart is followed by a loud moan, "I HATE that STORE!!!" There isn't a trip to Walmart that is pleasant, enjoyable, or FUN. UGH! So I was dreading the trip this morning (I decided to do grocery shopping and birthday dinner shopping for Adam--his birthday is on the 18th--at the same time as this green-shirt-finding mission), which took place at 5am, right after I was finished feeding Spencer (who still thinks it's fun to wake up at 4:30). So I go, and it's a MESS, boxes everywhere, people stocking stuff (I realize if I ever need to move us again that THIS is the time and place to get boxes btw....). I didn't mind the mess, not one little bit because all the annoying, creepy shoppers who are usually there are GONE! So for a brief moment, I thought that I'd find a cure for what Adam calls "Walmart Rage." I always come home with a lovely story after visiting the place. Adam (being the smart man that he is) avoids the store with a passion. He hates shopping in general, but REALLY hates Walmart, ALMOST as much as me...since he's somehow able to avoid grocery shopping trips! Anyway, back to my story. I was rather pleased with my shopping experience and thinking that I should always shop at 5am...until I traveled down the Easter candy row (I thought I'd just get ALL my shopping done for the week, yay!). Here it is, a week before Easter. Surely they'd have "real" Cadbury Eggs, brand name chocolate eggs, regular ol' jelly beans, etc. right? So this little lady yells to me down the row, "Can I help you find something?" I say, "Well....?" kind of confused that there's no "normal" candy on the row, a week before Easter. So I ask, in the most polite way I can, "Do you have any normal, uh, eh....brand name Easter candy." The lady-worker starts talking to me (she has only one tooth in her mouth I might add here....) and the bottom line is, no this is it. An entire row of lame candy. Great. I just love Walmart!!

Although, this shopping trip is much better than one a few weeks ago. I was checking out, putting my items from my cart on the conveyor belt to be rung up and this woman walks in front of me, puts down a couple items in front of my divider thing, and starts pushing my food back (to fit her stuff on the belt), while the conveyor belt proceeds to move forward. I stand there a bit confused, but just thinking to myself, oh she's got to be with the customer who is checking out in front of me, right (You know, like when you forget something and send your husband back to grab what you forgot?)? No. She just cut in line in front of me and layed out her stuff. Most people who are in a hurry and have a few items might ask "I only have a couple things, would you mind if I go in front of you?" Nope, not this lady. I just stood there shocked. Not only did she "cut" in line, she PUSHED all my stuff produce and all. Oh, I could've strangled her, but I was in such shock that I just stood there with wide eyes. Jerk.

So, last week they opened up a Super Target, right next door to the Super Walmart--no NOT down the street from Walmart, but literally NEXT DOOR. I thought this was pretty funny! It's the fanciest Target I've seen thus far. Oh, how I dream of the day when we can afford to STOP shopping at Walmart...the total at the bottom of my receipt after my grocery shopping at Target always seems to be blinking "Back to Walmart you go!!!" Ahh, I can dream of the day....

Easter Photo Shoot

Yes, I realize that it's NOT Easter today, but today was our Easter, for picture purposes anyway. Adam is on call next Saturday/Sunday so I thought we'd do the whole dress up thing today instead. Adam made the mistake of telling Justin that the Easter Bunny doesn't come if Daddy's gone at work...so that will create problems for the many Easters he will be gone in the future, but oh well. Since Adam will get home from his 30 hour call while we're at church, he told Justin that the Easter Bunny will deliver his Easter basket while we're all at church. I asked how it works for Santa at Christmas (since Adam will likely be gone for Christmas this year too...) but Adam informed me that the Easter Bunny and Santa work totally different. Hmm, news to me! I personally would care a little more if Santa came while I was at work more than if the Easter Bunny did, but that's ok--that's for Adam to worry about! Here are pictures from the photo shoot!!

Almost Spring??

Yesterday was BEAUTIFUL--67 degrees!! Today isn't bad either, I think it's supposed to be in the low 60s and windy. I'll take it! I'm so ready to switch Spencer into a "bigger" carseat so I don't have to drag him around everywhere in his babyseat. The only reason I've kept him in there is so that I don't have to bundle him up everytime we go out. Grandma Smith got us what I refer to as a "fuzzy seat" for his carseat, which has been a LIFESAVER for all the errands I do over the course of a day. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about when I say "fuzzy seat," here it is:They're wonderful. I never would've needed one of these back in CA. But out here it's perfect--no extra blanket needed on those 20 below wind chill days! But I am looking forward to switching Spencer to a big carseat when the weather warms up...he's just getting too heavy to cart around!! It's amazing how quick babies grow! Yay, I'm just so excited that spring is around the corner. It seems that this year winter has been particularly LONG....yay for SPRING!

On a Sunday Afternoon...

We decided to finally enter the world of blogging today. Spencer started "jumping" today while in his walker at lunch, so we decided to dust off Justin's old jumper (put away in the basement) for Spencer. How fun it was to watch him jump...Justin was jumping around the house for much of the afternoon after watching his little brother jump.
