Christmas

I wish we didn't have to come home back to reality. We had a great time. We drove down to Vegas on Friday the 18th and didn't come back till Saturday the 26th.

A lot of what we did up until the Bowl game was determined by the schedule laid out for the team and bowl. Matt/the team practiced every morning and we usually had some bowl activity to go to that afternoon. I managed to forget my camera so I don't exactly have any pics of our adventures ... I'm still kinda mad at myself for it.

Here's the highlights of our week:

We stayed at Planet Hollywood - very nice, big rooms

Saturday night we went to PHANTOM OF THE OPERA instead of going to Terry Fator with the rest of the team. It was amazing! Soooo good - highly recommend it.

Almost all of our food was paid for and we went to a couple buffets so we ate A LOT of food.

Sunday night we went to the 'Outback Buffet Bowl' at Fremont Street ... that was interesting. 'Candy and the Canes' entertained us and we pretty much ate food and then left. We got to pick our bowl gifts using a point system thing - we got an HD Sony Camcorder and a Sony point-and-shoot digital camera. We're excited for them.

That night we got to go over to my sister's and visit with her and my bro ... so fun.

Monday - we had the 'Kickoff Luncheon' ... we were supposed to eat while the program was going on but our table managed to get overlooked and we ended up eating as fast as we could while people were standing up to leave ... it was good food though.

Matt and the rest of the traveling team left to stay at the JW Marriott for the night and prepare for the game. The wives came over to the hotel for the Senior Tribute ... Matt and his group were pretty funny.

Tuesday - GAME DAY

I went shopping and relaxed in the room. The game was awesome ... freezing but awesome. Matt played awesome - he's had a GREAT SEASON. It's still weird to me that it's over for the year. Matt's parents came down for the game and Heather and Billy came as well. Heather took some great pictures at the game - I haven't gotten them from her yet so those are to come later.

Wednesday - ate crepes at Paris. Visited the Tigers, Lions, and Dolphins at The Mirage - saw 5 month old white tigers ... soo adorable. I wish I could have a tiger for a pet. Went to Aunt Dawn's for a family dinner - it was so fun to be with family and spend time with that side of my family. Here's some pictures Dawn took:

Christmas Eve - we went to my mom's gravestone. It's been a few years since I've been there - it was special and definitely sobering for me and that I could share it with Matt. We had a family dinner at Heather's with Jimmy and Michael.

Christmas - we woke up bright and early so we could go see Heather's kids open their presents and see what Santa had brought them. Always funny with her kids. Keller: "Pancakes! Yes!" as he grabs the box and hugs it and starts walking around with it. Then off to Grandma and Grandpa Alger's for traditional waffle breakfast with all the extended fam. We played games and visited with the fam - it was a lot of fun and I was so happy that I got to share with Matt what Christmas was like for me growing up. We had dinner at the Worthen's - Billy's parents.

We left the next morning as soon as we got everything packed .... once back in Provo ...

We went to my parent's house that night - first meeting them for dinner at Applebee's. We had an extended Christmas celebration there.

After church on Sunday we headed up to Matt's parent's house and continued Christmas to that evening. We came back to our apartment with tons of stuff. Thank you so much to everyone! It was so much fun being able to take a break from school and work and spend the time together and with our families. We really had a blast. I kinda rambled off a little bit but oh well. Now it's on to the New Year.

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!! A new year ... new adventures.

Happy Birthday Mom

To an amazing woman ... who made everyone smile and laugh and lit up the room when she walked in. I miss you desperately.

Matt and I visited her gravestone Christmas Eve morning while in Vegas - it was Matt's first time being there. So many memories flooded back.

I wish I could have a 2 way conversation with you. I wish I had a moment that I could have stopped and cried and pondered and watched home videos ... maybe it's better that I didn't. I wish I could hear your opinion (out loud ... not just through your writings). I wish you and Matt could meet face to face. I wish I could see you play with our kids someday - your grandchildren. And the list goes on ...

I know you're watching over me and I guess that has to be good enough. You got to spend your birthday with your mom and dad though ... hope you had a great day wherever you are. I love you, happy birthday.

Christmas Bowl

We're back home .... we've spent the last week in Las Vegas for the bowl game and then celebrating Christmas with my side of the family. All sorts of fun and relaxation and enjoying each other's company. It's been an awesome week...I wish it didn't have to end.

I've got lots more to come about our adventures .... unfortunately not a lot of pics cause I managed to forget my camera but I'll have a few from my sis and aunt as soon as I can get them from em.

Where Did It Go???

Time flew by waaayyy to fast these last 4 months ... my body still thinks it's September .... and there's SNOW on the ground. I've been in shock the last week at where did all the time go. But I guess it flies when you're having fun .... right?

It does not feel at all like I've watched an entire season worth of football games. I haven't even posted about ONE since the first game. I'm so ashamed. Matt has had a fabulous, amazing season. I have so many pictures and experiences to blog about with football - I feel like such a bad wife not blogging bout my hubby's achievements. And we're headed down to the bowl game this Friday - so weird.

And it's the end of the semester!! We're taking FINALS this week - I feel like I've only gone to classes for maybe a month.

It's DECEMBER! I really can't explain how confused my body is - it seriously feels like it could maybe October at the latest ... not wintery, snowy, cold December. Christmas is in less than 2 weeks ... goodness gracious. I will say that I'm so proud of ourselves - we've had all our Christmas shopping done for a week now ... pretty sure that's a first for me.

It's been almost a year since I was promoted to supervisor - weird. I'm organizing and going over year-end stuff ... awkward. The old supervisor came in with her little baby girl bout a week ago to show me the ropes of year-end (she's so super sweet) and I couldn't believe that her baby girl is 7 months old! It feels like maybe a month ago that she left the company to be a mom and I officially took over.

We've been married for almost a year and A HALF - it feels like it was NOT that long ago that we got off our 1 yr. anniversary vacay - that I don't think I ever finished posting the pictures from.

Am I getting the picture across how weird I feel about how fast time is flying?

And everything else that's been going on in our lives that I haven't spoken of:

We beat the new Super Mario Brothers with Michael last Wednesday - 3 days of all day playing and we beat it! ... all by ourselves. Michael invited us to come over and play last last Saturday and we were hooked. We were there ALL day Saturday (that's how we spent our first Sat. without a game together ... what a good way to spend it) and then back again Monday night for FHE and Wednesday night until we beat it (Michael rented it so it had to be returned Wed night at midnight). It's the FIRST Video Game I've ever beat!!! .... even if I was just helping along side Mike and Matt ... it is still a great accomplishment for me.

I am SO GRATEFUL our car has heat. The previous 2 years, my car has been heatless and so every drive to work and school and wherever was a freezing one. It has been such a blessing to have a heater and defroster that work wonderfully! So lovely.

I got my hair cut and colored today ... I love it - maybe I'll take a pic and post it ... maybe.

Last Saturday was our Ward Christmas Party and we're on the activities committee so that entailed me making 140 sugar cookies Friday evening and then going and setting up at the church for another 3 hours .... Sat morning setting up for another hour ... cooking eggs and hashbrowns for 2 hours .... eating for 20 min then cleaning up for another 2 hours. It turned out to be a really good party though...I'm not meaning to complain. We brought our christmas tree for decoration and forgot to bring it home ... so our Christmas tree is still at the church and is providing a lovely decoration in the foyer.

We love RedBox-ing movies. And we're not good at returning them the next day - you'd think we wouldn't love it so much ... but we still do.

We've had some really fun trips to Ikea in the last little while - we've done a bit of remodeling at our place.

Oh and Thanksgiving! was so much fun - It was so fun and relaxing to spend time with family and play with the nephews and niece. I'm so grateful for family - I've come to appreciate it more as I've grown older ... not that I'm really that old or anything but still.

We love our Primary kids - although sometimes they drive us crazy ... we still love them and they're definitely teaching us a lot. One of them brought us some chocolate covered pretzels he made for us - sooo sweet.

I've been asked if I'm related to Matt and if we're a couple? a few times in the past few weeks ... never if we're married. Awkward but hilarious.

Hmmmmm....this is really long .... sorry to those of you who have actually taken the time to read this whole long ramble. Kudos to you.

I really need to go to sleep now. I'm sure I'll think of more that needs updating tomorrow. Toodles.

The Friday before Halloween we headed up to Brigham City for one of Matt's old friend's Halloween party. We had a good time. On Saturday, we got to see some of the nieces and nephews costumes - they were so cute. We went to dinner with Dave and his family. visited his parents ward party and then we headed back to Provo.

Here's the pics of celebrating Matt's birthday at my parent's house. He was away in New Mexico on his actual birthday. We celebrated the next day by going to Red Robin to eat and then to Comedy Sportz.

The Weekend Update

After work on Friday ....

I visited Matt at the hotel for a little while then headed up to my parent's house for a sleepover. We watched Twilight of course.

We were at the movie theatre by 8:45 Saturday morning to see NEW MOON with the girlies. Oh it was fabulous! Much much mucho better than the 1st movie. We took some funny pictures - but Cassie has them on her camera at the moment ... so it looks like I'll be posting those later.

Then I raced home to get ready for the big game against Air Force. Dad, Cassie, and Emily came with and Matt's parents were there as well. It was quite the freezing game if you ask me. Matt played fabulously (as always) and dislocated his finger in the process. He has a very large swollen middle finger and it also tore some ligaments in his finger ... kinda gross. For the record ... we saw Matt pull himself out of the game and go talk to the trainer ... he taped his finger up and then he was back in the game 3 min. later - so tough ... that's my boy.

After getting home ... we ended up going and seeing New Moon (again). It was just soooo good - I could have watched it 5 times that day. And Matt and I both agree - Jacob is much cooler than Edward. And I'm still craving to go see it again.

Sunday - I sliced my finger instead of the potato with the potato peeler. At night we doorbell-ditched our primary kids with a bag of treats. It was their 'good job' at the primary program. Kinda funny though - it's usually the opposite way around ... how often do you see a married couple in their twenties doorbell ditching 11 year olds. But we enjoyed it thoroughly.

And then upon waking up this morning ... what I thought was allergies all weekend ending up being sickness. Boo.

Primary Funnies

During sharing time, the lady asked 'what have you done in this last week to serve your family?'

A little boy said, "I ate all the cookies, so no one else had to go through all the trouble of eating them."

Couple weeks ago ... in primary they said we were going to play 'build-a-man' since you can't play hangman in church. One of our primary girls yells, "but we play hangman in our class all the time." oops.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUBBY!!

24!! Happy Birthday to my wonderful sweetheart!!

I have been so blessed to call him my own. God definitely blessed our lives bringing us together. I couldn't ask for someone better for me. He's amazingly pati

ent, understanding, loving, sweet, adorable, macho man, teddy bear, imaginative, goofy, funny, and everything else wonderful in between. I can honestly say I continue to love him more each day.

He's figured me out and knows just how to calm me when I'm all riled up or cheer me up when I'm not feeling the hottest. He's got so many great qualities ... I could go on for a long time with stories this way and that. I'm a lucky girl that's for sure.

He got his big birthday present a little while ago - an ipod. His ipod touch drowned in horchata that was left on our table by one of his friends and the cup leaked. It was a sad day. So I got him a little ipod (the old generation not the brand new ones) for when he travels. In order for him to be able to use it of course I had to give it to him early (instead of now when it's nearing the end of the season).

Happy Happy Birthday Hun!!! And GOOD LUCK against New Mexico tomorrow!!

Mustache

Yes ... Matt has a mustache and he is very proud of it. No ... I'm not the biggest fan in the world of it but he claims he gave me 15 months of marriage mustache free so he gets to have one for a month.

He's been so excited for Halloween so it can be incorporated into some amazing costume ... but what/who should he be?????

He kinda wanted to be Freddy Mercury (but I said no) and the only other person we've come up with is Magnum PI (Tom Sellick). Suggestions????

Thankful Thoughts - Examples

I have been blessed with great in-laws. And they have been a great influence in teaching me about sacrifice and selflessness. It is something they emulate when you look into their eyes - the whole clan of them. I could talk about how each one of Matt's brothers and sisters (and their spouses) have impressed me in one way or another ... but I want to talk specifically about his parents right now.

For some reason or another - I laid awake last night thinking about the different conversations Matt and I have had about his parents and everything they have done for me and for us since we've been married.

They come to every home game. Practically every other Saturday they drive 2 hours down and then 2 hours back just to come to the game. And I know that it's not because they are die-hard BYU fans cause Becky's told me that they wouldn't come to every game if they didn't have a son on the team ... and how she swore she wouldn't go to another football game prob 15 years ago. Talk about support. And this has kinda been their story for the last 15 years or however long it's been since their youngest started playing sports. Matt remembers his parents coming to all his games as well as his brother's and sister's games always. And you're talking 7 kids each playing at least 2 sports all throughout high school and then some. What an amazing sacrifice of time. From what Matt remembers, his dad went to work super early - like around 6 - so that he was off in time to get to all the sports his kids were playing in. This is something Matt and I have decided we will try to implement as much as possible when we have kids - we want to be there at every game/concert/whatever to show our kids that support and love.

Sidenote - my dad was the same way with me. I don't want it sound like my parents neglected me or something ... my dad was at every game he could possibly be to even if meant him staying up in his office for hours later that night. I don't think it really hit me how much I appreciated it until after I graduated. The way that affected me is another reason I have determined that I will do the same thing for my children.

That's not the end of it though - they've impressed me in so many ways. They are the kind of people that genuinely care and give service with a compassionate heart. They are more concerned about the well-being of people, especially their children, and it amazes me how willing they are to give up their own things for other people. They're not out to impress anyone of show-off ... they're real and genuine.

They've helped me to think differently about life in general and about parenting aspects I probably wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

They have been great examples to me as I've gotten to know them over the past 2 years. They are amazing people and they've passed that onto their kids-Matt along with his brothers and sisters are just the same way. I'm grateful for their examples in my life and grateful that I get to call them family. Our kids will get some those genes passed on to them and hopefully they will see those examples and become a lot like them too. Thank you Putnams!

Food Storage Analyzer

So it's this cool free website that helps you organize your food storage. And if you try it and then give it a review - you get a free $10 gift card to Emergency Essentials (my work).

So - of course I think it's great. I haven't had a lot of time to really dive into like I would like to but it's definitely a good thing for really figuring out what you've got in food storage. You can calculate how long your food storage will last you based on the nutritionals and how many people and so on and so forth. You can also add your own foods - so it's not strictly food from Emergency Essential's. I like it cause your able to personalize it and break down what you have in food storage to be able to judge what you already have and what you need. Matt and I still have a long way to go but this helps us manage what direction to go while we're trying to build our food storage. So in short - I think it's a great tool - see for yourself.

Well ... the topic in my LDS Marriage and Family class last week was True Love. So the assigned reading was of course on love (from the 'eternal marriage' manual). Talk about uplifting and happy reading for the week. And ... I absolutely love quotes! If you've known me for any length of time you know this to be true. I had quotes (on love) surrounding our reception and have a book I've been working on for years that's filled the best of the best quotes.

Love is awesome. Marriage is amazing. That's my opinion. I can honestly say that I continue to love Matt more everyday. And you'd be surprised what you can learn about love from a class. Perspective takes on a whole new meaning with regards to marriage. The simple daily things of life kind of float away. They always say marriage is a lot of work but it makes the work seem like hardly anything when you focus on how much you love the other one and the covenants you made at marriage. I'm finding it a lot harder to put my thoughts into words at the moment. I'm lucky to have Matt as my hubby - I'm so happy he kept after me.

Tender Mercy

Flashback to prob a month ago:

My phone rang just as I was stepping out of the bathroom at work where I had been shedding a few tears of woe is me. It was my sister-in-law Angie and I sucked it up and answered. She explained to me that her friend had read on our blog that we didn't have a dishwasher and she wanted to give us her portable dishwasher. I had never met her and she knew Matt just from when he was a little tyke - yet out of the goodness of her heart she wanted to give us her portable dishwasher ... for nothing in return!

Angie asked me if we would want which I proceeded to say OF COURSE. This was one of the moments when I knew God was watching out for me. The moment I got off the phone I could feel His arms wrap around me with a hug that said 'it's going to be ok, you can do it, keep holding on, I love you remember.' I'm almost started to cry out of happiness this time.

It may just seem like a dishwasher but it has so much more meaning to me. The last time I did the dishes I couldn't stand for the rest of the day (we're only talking an hour or two of washing too)...that's what a messed up back will do. Before football started Matt always washed the dishes because he knew how much it hurt my back plus I just don't necessarily like doing it. But football and school took over which is how it should be. The dishes were a source of stress in my life that has now evaporated. It's hard to put into words just what a dishwasher has done for me and Matt. It's not just a dishwasher, it's a blessing, it's that nudge of hope, a daily reminder that God knows me individually and is watching out for me everyday.

We picked up the dishwasher last Wednesday night and it is absolutely fabulous. All of our dishes are done (except for a few cookie sheets that didn't fit) without hours of work on our end. Thank you Amy!! We can never thank you enough for your generosity and kindness!

SD Day 5 - The Beach!!

I know, I know ... I am so incredibly behind but I am determined to finish these posts on our fabulous week even if it is almost 2 months later.

First,we went to the bay just outside where we were staying and then we were off to the waves of the ocean. It was Matt's first time playing in the ocean ... it was so fun to be with him and play in the water and relax and enjoy the day together. Our whole day was spent at the beach ... as you can see the sun slowly going down throughout the pictures ... Enjoy!

For some reason or another, my computer has decided that it's wireless connection doesn't want to work...it's been a couple days now So my blogging is slightly limited seeing as how all my pictures are on my computer ... not Matt's. Boo. I was looking forward to finishing up some old posts that needed blogging while Matt was gone ... but they pretty much all require pictures.

Matt is in Louisiana as I type. Funny story: they got stuck in Provo for a few hours because the plane was too heavy to take off - they filled it up with too much fuel. So they were stuck sitting around the Provo airport for hours earlier today.

Tonight is the beginning of me being alone at our apt while Matt's away with the rest of the players. It's amazing how much I can miss one person after just a few hours. I just finished watching Ever After - great movie - I love Walmart's $5 movies. Who can guess how late I stay up tonight because I can't sleep????

Well ... I really don't have much to say - I'm more rather rambling I suppose. blah blah blah. Same old, same old around these parts - we're in the routine of school, work, football, and not much time to do much else otherwise. It's good and happy, just not the most exciting in writing. I am really liking my classes so far, that's always a good sign. Matt's taking Coaching Baseball...so fun.

It was my birthday a week and day ago! I'm finally past the teen years ... big ol 20! My dad was so cute and brought me flowers at work. They're so beautiful. Matt gave me the new Pride and Prejudice movie and a hand grain mill - which I love. May sound weird - but I've started making bread every week instead of buying it but we haven't had a wheat grinder so I couldn't make real 'wheat' bread. I made my first loaves with real wheat 2 days ago (it was actually half and half but I was still proud ... I feel soo domestic). I love it.

We made a trip to Ikea last Monday and bought a wonderful Poang chair to spice up our place a bit with the gift card my parents gave me for my b-day. I'll post a pic later.

Random cute story: I think it's worth blogging cause it was so sweet. Last week, Friday before the big game. I didn't get into Oklahoma til 10:30 p.m. Matt should have been asleep by this time. I texted to him to let him know I arrived safely. He stayed up to make sure I got there safely and everything was ok and didn't go to sleep til he knew for sure - it was so sweet ... and a lot harder to describe how cute it was. I really do have the sweetest hubby ever. Hopefully I didn't just embarrass him. :)

Hmmmm....I should probably go clean or fold laundry. Sorry this wasn't the most exciting post in the world. I do have good ones up my sleeve but they won't get to come out til my computer decides to start working again ... or I cave to uploading them onto Matt's puter. I think I'm actually going to go make cookies.

What an amazing game!! Both Matt and my voices were shot through Sunday from screaming so much during the game. And the stadium was absolutely fantastic! It only took 12 hours of traveling on my end but it was well worth it!

I took a lot of pictures (I've been saying that I lot) ... they don't do it justice but it kinda gives you an idea of how overwhelming the stadium and everything was. One of the other players called the stadium the big and spacious building.

BYU fans were very much outnumbered by the Oklahoma fans. It sure does get loud in there - they said there was around 75,400 fans!

It was like watching the game live and on a big screen tv at the same time. It was the best of both worlds!
We had pretty good seats too (especially considering just how far up our seats could have gone) - this is our view without any zooming on my camera. And our seats were in the 'club section' and were padded and quite comfortable
