#37- Mr. and Mrs. McFerran

I made a small cake for my cousin's wedding. This is what it looked like when it left my house.

It's amazing what 2 flowers and the right setting will do.
I love how it turned out and love the pleating effect on the bottom layer.

This was a tall 6" round and a short 8" round. The cake was white almond flavor with a mango, strawberry, vanilla filling. It was iced in almond flavored buttercream and covered with homemade fondant. Serves approx 38.

#36- Lola's 1st

This is the tiny cake I made for my daughter to dig into on her first birthday. She love's the green clock in her bedroom, hence the theme. I set the hands to the time she was born, 7:18pm. Super simple, no fuss.

#35- S hearts T

This cake could be number 35, 36, 37 and probably 38 too. This is the biggest cake I've done so far. It was my brother and his bride's wedding cake. It was a huge undertaking. I'm super happy with how it turned out and I'm super happy it's over with. Delivering any cake is stressful, but praying that a wedding cake makes it to it's destination in one piece, fully intact is majorly stressful. I'm thankful to my husband who not only helped me carry this behemoth, but ran to a couple different stores a couple different times to pick up things I'd run out of. I'm also thankful to my baby girl for being patient with mama and finding things to occupy her time (like pulling all the DVDs off the shelf) while mama worked on cake. I don't see many wedding cakes in my future.

This cake was a 6" lime layer for the bride and groom to tuck away in the freezer for their first anniversary, 8" and 10" pina colada and 12" lime, all with strawberry filling. It was iced with coordinating flavors of buttercream and covered in homemade fondant. Minus the top layer for the bride and groom, this cake served approximately 150.

#34- M

I made this cake for my sister Michelle's birthday and as a taste test for Sean and Tiffany's wedding. It was pina colada cake with strawberry filling. I also flavored the buttercream with a little bit of coconut. It was super yummy!

This was an 8" cake that will serve approximately 32.

#33 I guess

I didn't really want to number this one because it's not a masterpiece. I'm a little rusty. Oh well. My brother is getting married in June and I'm making the wedding cake, so I figured I'd better start practicing again. I made this for Sunday dessert. I covered it with fondant because Tiffany (future sister-in-law) wants a square cake and I've only ever covered one other square cake. It was a lot easier than I had anticipated.
It was the day before Valentine's Day hence the red and the [I love you] a bushel and a peck theme. All the rest of it is a technique called cornelli lace. I'd only ever done it in my classes and wanted to try it. Man was my hand tired by the time I was done. I definitely need to practice this some more.

I thought I'd be clever and put everyone's names mixed in there.

This was an 8" square chocolate cake with peanut butter marshmallow filling
(the filling was yummy, but I won't be doing again)

#29-Brock's Eagle Scout

Our neighbor Brock earned his Eagle Scout. His mom asked me to make a cake for their celebration. Brock loves the Pittsburgh Steelers so he asked me to put a small Steelers logo on the back of the cake. What's funny is I was planning to do that before he asked. I love how this cake turned out. I hope he loves it!

#24-robyn's farm

Melinda's mom is turning 50 and is apparently obsessed with Facebook's Farm Town application. In case you don't know what that is, it's basically a virtual farm where you have to tend your crops. I squished as many things from her farm on here as I could. I LOVE the way it turned out. It's so cute! The house and the animals are my favorites. Can you just see the personality on the faces of those cute little farm animals? This cake was a lot of fun to make and I'm really proud of it. I'm sure Robyn will love it!

#22-Jessica

My Aunt Renee called me earlier this week and asked me if I'd make a little birthday cake for my cousin Jessica. She just got back from a vacation in Jamaica, she loves to snowboard and her nickname is Jessica Rabbit. Aunt Renee wanted all of these things incorporated in the cake. I love how it all came together. It's super cute. It was kind of an odd combination on things to put on a cake, but they all made sense to Jessica and her family. Auntie Nea and Jessica were thrilled with it. Happy Birthday Jessica!

I'm pretty sure the birthday boy doesn't look at my blog, so I don't think I'm spoiling the surprise. Beckee's hubby had a birthday and she wanted a golf themed cake for him. I think it's super cute. I especially love the trees. They were fun to make.

#19-Chase

Chase just returned home from an LDS mission in Russia. His mom Clarene (who I work with) asked me to make a cake for his homecoming celebration. "From Russia, With Love" and the colors of the Russian flag were her only requests. The rest was left up to me. I used my sister Alison's art skills and put her to work painting (with food coloring of course) the postcard on top. Getting vanilla buttercream that dark is no easy task, let me tell you. I had to scrap the first batch and start over. I have to say, this cake gave me more problems than any other cake I've made so far. They all seemed very pleased when they saw it. Welcome home Elder Hansen.
